  • Never get hit on either. Years of teaching and coaching girls basketball i give off a harmless and non threatening vibe. Chicks dig the bad boys and that's definitely not me. Besides my wife is a stunner and pretty intimidating i guess.
  • 60 minute cardio sessions (mainly elliptical, but also road running or treadmill) 5-6X per week total of 2 hours per week of upper body strength training (dumbbell work, kettle bells and pushups - lots of pushups) Total of about 8 hours per week. Wish it was more actually - i feel kinda rushed to do this and i hate being…
  • haha. I was thinking that the scale may be delivered to my house by a DEA agent or at least put on some sort of "watch list" I'll let you know how it goes. weight loss or side business? I'm gonna be able to measure most of my meals with a styrofoam plate or bowl - portability was my main concern but that may be trumped if…
  • I do both, but i started out mainly treadmill. Went from walking to running on the thing and gradually increased my endurance. I found a whole new level of fitness when i switched to elliptical! I feel more in control of the effort i expend and actually go much harder on the elliptical. This all depends on your fitness…
  • True, your goal will dictate was is "better" For weightloss, shorter interval training seems best. High intensity followed by recovery followed by high intensity and repeat. Treadmill and elliptical is good for this too. For endurance, it is more a function of time spent at an elevated heartrate.
  • personally, i try to increase the length first and then work on steadily increasing intensity at that length. I've gone from 30 minute so-so elliptical sessions to pretty intense 60 minute sessions that way. Because of bad knees, i only road run once a week and i've seen great progress in my road running because of the…
  • OK, I'm on board. I literally left this thread, went to amazon and ordered a portable digital food scale. Anyone know anything about AWS Black Blade Digital pocket scale up to 1000g by .1 g increments? I hope i chose well, but in any case it's got to be more accurate than the silly styrofoam cups i carry around. I'm…
  • doable goal: multi day hike on App Trail "out there" goal: walk across the U.S. I'd totally do this if not for financial obligations, so if that ever corrects itself and the opportunity arises, I'd be so in.
  • cliffy's got serious hair and jenn has serious abs
  • smile and eyes. smiling eyes?
  • I'm conditioned in the "no pain-no gain" ethos. So yeah, I go to the gym to put my time in and feel like i'm progressing toward fitness AND weightloss goals. Here are my three top reasons for going and making it a priority to go to the gym (cardio and lifting): 1. It is the time of day that is all about ME. I even enjoy…
  • In a small way, i've battled this. In the past, whenever i would lose some weight, my wife would comment something along the lines of not getting too small with a slightly disapproving look - this was always extremely demotivating. She likes me husky but i don't like carrying the extra weight. I'm losing weight for me this…
  • I do cardio 6X per week for 60 per day. I do 30 minutes of upper body strength training 3-4X per week in addition (pushups, rows and dumbbell work). I find that the exercising enhances good food choices and helps in appetite control. It may seem backwards, but when i skip a workout, I'm hungry as hell and tend to overeat…
  • 315 to 248 in about 18 months. Slow and steady and feeling great. I joined MFP about 2 months ago after being stuck on a plateau for about 6 months. Have lost about 18 in 2 months so the accountability and awareness that comes from tracking definitely works for me! Thanks for the motivation here.
  • Totally depends on what you're wearing that day. I'm digging deep into the closet now and the days i'm wearing something people haven't seen before, i get the comments. Looking forward to the day when i can shop for a significant wardrobe change. Most rewarding comes from my kids who know I've been going hard at it. They…
  • My water goal is philosophical. After being straight up addicted to soda and on the fruit juice roller coaster, i made the resolution to drink nothing but water. Knowing that hydration comes from a variety of sources, but knowing i had a better chance if i focused on the action of drinking water and not the deprivation of…
  • Pandora! I can switch the genre to give me what i need that particular day. Bored? walk down memory lane with 80's throwbacks, etc. I'll decide during the day what the theme will be and i look for random, off the beaten path themes. The other day i spent an hour listening to late 80's, early 90's club bangers by girl…
  • Same happens to me when i wear my running shoes - anythng with a firm heel and toe box. Nike makes a model of cross trainers called "frees" which are very flexible. When i wear those (and stay aware of changing up my foot position from time to time on the pedals) I avoid that unpleasant foot feeling. Try the Nike "frees" -…
  • I'm down about 70 lbs. overall but still wearing mostly the same clothes. My dress shirts particularly hide the weightloss. i have like 3 suits at the tailor right now and I tell myself that a shopping spree is coming - I can't wait for the "reveal" Don't get a lot of comments at work, but folks at the gym are hyping me…
  • Repping the community wellness center in a town located in the Smoky Mtns of NC - very rural. Some guys in boots and jeans on the treadmill, old ladies in Winnie the Pooh sweatshirts and some hardcore mountain trail runner-types. It's quite a motley collection and i love it! Really good folks. I drive 30 mins each way…
  • I started going to my gym at 315 lbs. a little over a year and a half ago. Walking the treadmill made me feel really foolish and fruitless. I wanted to be one of the "athletes" in the gym! In my mind, I could hear them lining up to take bets on how long this guy would stick with it (i wonder what the over/under was?) I…
  • One hour of jump rope per day = recipe for disaster! Keep it as part of your workout routine, but for the love of Pete! vary your workouts. You're gonna get shin splints at the minimum and that will derail your workouts for a long time.
  • Pizza - and it so hard to log accurately! I am a pizza fiend from Jersey.
  • I'm needing alternatives to plain H2O anyway as i'm getting sick of chugging water and MIO, etc. is too danged expensive - I go through one of those sqeeze bottles per DAY. Trying to get at least 12 cups of water per day. I have hyperhydrosis or whatever they call excessive sweating. Not kidding - i lose over a 1 lbs. of…
  • I am also very interested in what other MFPers eat. I'm fairly new and looking for ideas. My diaries are public and i welcome feedback. Please know that I'm conscientious about logging but steadily improving accuracy as i now measure solids with an cup i carry around.
