A couple of thoughts, because i had the same questions when i started: 1. Accuracy in logging in your food is important. (i'm beginning to rely more on measurements that i actually take - i carry a styrofoam 8 oz cup to measure rice portions, etc. and have a scale at home to measure meats, etc. even more accurately. I…

200-500. I'm on a 2090 calorie plan. Never used to eat breakfast befor MFP 2 months ago, so i'm discovering when i don't eat anything for breakfast, my lunch isn't enough to get through the workout in the evening. Guess i'm learning to eat to live...right?

I think the thread took a left turn when everyone focused on your living at home - you're only 20 so i get it. You need family and it sounds like they need you and that's fine for now, but in this particular area of your life (your fitness), you need personal space to focus. That doesn't make you selfish at all.
-
Not selfish. You are definitely on a mission and i feel you that you don't need any obstacles in your way to success. Your obligation in this situation is to yourself first, and if you can help family along the way, great. If it is an obstacle, they gotta get out of your way. You'll be an inspiration to them in the long…

Yes, but i'm a dude...but ok? lol

BP improved too, i bet!

That's awesome! Congratulations. How long between pics? What worked best for you? I'm shooting for a similar transformation and this is inspiring.

315 in December '12 now 252 in April 14. 63 lbs. in a year and a half. All exercise and unmonitored eating until beginning of March of this year. 13 of those lbs came as i blasted through a plateau using MFP for the last 5 weeks! It is true that weightloss is 25% gym and 75% kitchen. My goal of 240 by mid-may (bringing to…

I'm about to go on a 34 mile overnight hike on the Appalachian Trail - i can't wait to see what that looks like logged in!
-
You have to be super stoked! You look great! Great payoff for all your hard work.
-
Not really weird, but i did shake my head. Older lady in her 70's wearing a Winnie the Pooh sweatshirt on the next treadmill and absolutely smoking me with her pace! That was awesome/sad.

Ditto on the water. New Year's resolution was to drink tons of water and the side benefit was i cut out sugary drinks. Success with that led to logging food and paying attention to portions via MFP. I've only been on for 5 weeks and blasted through a weight loss plateau i'd been stuck on for months.

i read somewhere on here the mindset should be: eat like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunch and a pauper at dinner. Maybe not that extreme is the answer, but the point is, you need to fuel your body during the day. I find that when i go super low (for me less than 800 calories) before my evening workout (I eat dinner…

I'm really lucky - work at a boarding school and eat in the dining hall. Every day they have a healthy option to all entrees. Today it was spicy black bean patties (we have a couple of vegan students). They were awesome! Had three, yes three! and at only 120 calories a piece, fit very well with my goals for the day. The…

I know what i'm having for dinner this weekend! Thanks for sharing.

Cut out soda for new year's resolution this year. (actually pledged to drink nothing but water which includes the flavor drops) The biggest immediate benefit was that i no longer felt on a blodd-sugar level yo-yo. That's why one soda always leads to more later in the day. I put my focus on drinking water NOT not drinking…

Everyone is different for sure. I'm going to feel restricted if i pre-log. I'm fairly new but I see that it is a learning process. I'm getting better and better at making good choices on the fly having gotten a "feel" from logging in the last 5 weeks after each meal. I'm learning what a portion is and how food choices…

I agree. You just HAVE TO be extra mindful of diet on those inevitable rest days or when you have a conflict and miss workout.
-
My philosophy on days off? Sometimes things get in the way and you have to miss. Therefore, i don't ever intentionally take a day off (if i'm especially sore or wore out, i make it a lighter day, but not an "off" day). That way, when the unavoidable conflicts occur, it makes itself a "rest" day. Also, i don't stress out…

No worries. That would be me for sure if i was her Zumba class. Plus i'd hear about it when i got home, lol
-
I've got nothing against the men doing zumba - that's awesome. As for me, I don't need to give my wife more ammo about my dancing skillz....
-
My wife has been an instructor for a little over a year and absolutely loves it! Had to cut back her schedule too - it takes a toll on the teachers for sure. She now does 1 class a day 4x/week and loves her "Zumba Divas" She lost and got toned over the first year (lost about 30 lbs and went from size 10ish to size 4/6 over…

I do strictly cardio 5X week - 60 minutes on elliptical as hard as i can go and last the full hour, sometimes a combo of elliptical and treadmill run intervals but always 60 minutes. I'll also add strength (upper body like pushups, dumbell stuff, rows and lat pull downs) 3X week which makes those workouts total 90 minutes.…

Linda, feel free to add me. I'm a newbie and we can do this thing together! I've found that support means so much and i'm sure we'll have our bumps in the road to get each other over.

I'm trying to lose. I'm fairly new to MFP (1 month) and have my goal set to include that i workout 5 days per week. It's actually more like 6. Anyway, the approach i'm taking is to stick very close to the 2090 calorie goal consumed (+/-100 calories most days) (I was 265 4 weeks ago and had the goal of 240 in 3 months) I'm…

Hey there Zombie Swimmer (i thought they just floated)! I started on MFP about the same time as you and feel the same about collecting a supportive group of friends. I log on everyday and am looking to and for support. Feel free to add me as a friend and i'll keep my part of the bargain!

NSV - non scale victories Makes perfect sense! Thanks.
-
by the way, can someone tell me what NSV stands for? I get the general idea from looking at forums but can't figure it out.

That is a huge breakthrough! I was told that if you can run 3 miles, you can run 5-6 no problem. It is a psychological and physical barrier that you've blasted through. Not telling you to go out and run 5 miles today, but it is nice to know are getting fit and preparing to go big if you wanted to. I'm the same, not a big…
