Thanks, everyone! I got some good feedback from your replies. I did ease into veganism by cutting out beef last summer, then chicken and eggs, then milk, and finally cheese on Jan. 1. So it wasn't an extreme change for me. As far as processed foods, I am sure I could do a little better with that. I think I eat well, but I…

1. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and 2. The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan: Both are about the effect on animal welfare, the environment, and humane working conditions of factory farming. Becoming vegan had to be more than just "diet" for me. Once I saw how the meat industry dehumanizes workers, keeps animals in…

Hello, everyone! I am full-fledged vegan as of 1/1/12 and loving it. I was vegetarian for a few months before that, but after reading about factory farming and also the health dangers of dairy products, I decided to go all the way. I'm looking for some vegan MFP pals as the only vegan I know in "real life" is my mother,…

I watched in on Netflix instant. If you don't have that, you could try a library, or it's available to buy. It's easy to understand, encouraging, and convincing.

No one has said this yet, so I'll jump in to add that a lot of experts believe we don't need to worry about getting enough protein, even as vegans. Check out the documentary "Forks Over Knives" which is all about the health benefits of a vegan diet, and includes even a few guys in very physical professions (firefighter,…

Congratulations! You look great. I enjoy reading the weight-loss journey stories, so thanks for posting yours.

I also have the Polar FT4, which is slightly more expensive, but the Polar brand in general seems to be extremely popular and dependable. I love having the HRM because when I enter my activity into the exercise log, the calories come up much higher than what my HRM says I've burned, so this way I know I am not…

As far as your son goes, you probably want to be as upbeat as you can because kids take their cues on how to feel about things by watching their parents. Save your tears and anger for your parents, friends, or whoever else can be supportive listeners when your son is not around. I told my kids that Daddy was going to live…

Hang in there, girl! I too am a single mom of two, ages 8 and 6. I've been separated 3 years, divorced for one and half. You have some intense feelings to work through, but trust me, it gets better over time. I wish I had known more divorced people who could tell me that. The anger and sadness are so normal. I highly…

I'm a teacher too, and every morning between breakfast at 6 and lunch at noon, I have an ounce of Cabot 50% reduced fat cheddar cheese and 6 Reduced Fat Triscuits. It's really tasty and filling and I never get sick of it. I also drink a lot of water and green tea throughout the day. Good luck! I start soon and I feel…

Great job! You must be feeling so good!!

I would say petroleum jelly or lanolin instead of Chapstick. A lot of the brands of lip gloss (even those meant to "treat" dry lips) actually have ingredients that make your lips MORE dry. There are 12-step groups for Chapstick addiction! And think about it, just like the producers of snack foods, the manufacturer wants to…

I'm 5'8 also, and my highest weight was 225. I'm 37 and have two sons. I am now in the mid 180s with a goal of 160-165. After my first baby, I was down to 150, but that was pushing it for me. I was starting to get bony in the chest and gaunt in the face. All my weight is in my stomach and hips. Megs; I'm a teacher too --…

Great job getting back on track! I am going through the same thing right now.

I am 5'8 and was size 16 or XL at 198. I am now 188 and moving into 14s (16 is really loose, but I am not a comfortable 14 quite yet).

My final results: weight: -2.2 lbs. waist: -1 inch hips: -0.5 inch thighs: -0.5 inch I plan to do the 30DS again starting today, and hopefully lose more weight in July. I think I would have lost more in June if not for a one-week family shore vacation, but it was worth it.

Great job, Colleen! I see only 2 pounds for you until you treat yourself to some cute exercise clothes!! Well, I finished the last day of 30DS, and I am so proud. I have never in my life done a workout video for 30 days. Today is also my 100th day in row of logging in to MFP. I think a lot of the healthy changes I've been…

Just finished Level 3, Day 9...only one day left until I can say I completed the 30 Day Shred!

Hi, I'd like to join as well! This will actually be my second round because I did a group that started in late May, and the support helped me stick to it. As far as creating a group, you just start a new thread with a title like "30 Day Thread starting July 1." It's easier for people to join in if they know the starting…

I did Level 3, Day 8 today... planning to do the whole thing again starting July 1. I took a sneak peak at my weight and measurements, and unfortunately, they don't seem to have changed much. However, I just came back from a beach vacation and ate extra calories every single day for a week AND it's just a few days before…

I might do Ripped in 30, but if not, I am definitely going to cycle through 30DS one more time. I completed Level 3, Day 7 today (forgot to check in yesterday, as we were coming home from our vacation, but I even did my workout then too). I have a June calendar where I put a sticker on each day I worked out and I only…

Finished Level 3, Day 5. This is definitely the longest I've ever stuck consistently to a DVD workout! Colleen, if you decide to do P90x, please let me know how it compares to 30DS. I am too intimidated to give that one a try yet, and I've heard it's an hour commitment every day, which I just can't make at this time. It's…

Finished Level 3, Day 4 today and feeling good! What are you thinking of doing for your next workout after we finish 30DS? I think I am going to cycle through it once more for July or maybe do Ripped in 30 (has anyone tried that?). In August when I go back to school, I will have access to a treadmill and I am thinking of…

I did Level 3, day 3 today. Collinsky, I'd say you made it this far, so just hang in there and finish! I think everyone has off days or even weeks, but that's what threads like these are for. I have felt uninspired off and on too throughout all this, like am I really going to make any progress or have great results? I'm on…

I did Level 3, Day 2 this morning. I like it, but I also find my quads are really quivering by the end of some of the moves and my hops and jumps are very low. Also, that side plank ab move at the very end... I don't know if I am doing it right or not, but I can barely lift off the ground, even though I don't feel like I'm…

Well, I did Level 2, Day 10 yesterday and Level 3, Day 1 this morning! I felt like Jillian was trying to scare me with all her talk at the beginning of Level 3 and I found it harder to go to Level 3 than I did to Level 2, but it's do-able. I had to modify some of the moves, but I can tell that I've gotten much more fit…

Finished Level 2, Day 9 today! I am going on vacation for a week but bringing the DVD, the mat and my weights with me.
-
Did Level 2, Day 8 today and feeling great! I think the main thing that has helped me stay consistent is doing my workout first thing in the morning. I am off for the summer because I'm a teacher, so I won't have time in the mornings to work out once school starts again in August. But I am generally able to work out for a…

Feeling much better today and determined to be back on track. I planned my whole day of what I will eat and finished Level 2, Day 7. I am also finding the workout really challenging, but noticing that I barely need to rest or modify the moves. The only part in Level 2 that I can't do fully is the walking pushup part where…

Wow, ladies, this is just what I needed tonight after sabotaging myself yet again with a healthy dinner of six Pop Tarts (luckily, I threw the other two down the garbage disposal). I too have been in the 180s or 190s for several years now and keep going up and down about 10 pounds, but I am DETERMINED to get into the 170s…
