The use of the word 'toning' tends to make people freak out on here  However, if you want to see a change in your body....Continue with calorie deficit for continued weight loss and use WEIGHTS THAT CHALLENGE YOU!!! Squats, lunges, dead lifts, planks, pushups.....compound moves do wonders for your body. Keep up the…

Totally agree with you!! On Sundays I don't track my food and I eat whatever I like. My only stipulation is that I stop once I'm full. This has always worked for me!
-
I would say for both - you get out of it what you put into it. So if you like one over the other.....then stick with the one you like!
-
The proof is in - People who don't eat junk food are cranky!!!

^^^^This!!!! 1200 calories is not enough and not healthy. I'd rather eat a sensible amount of calories, the majority of those calories made up of 'healthy' foods and the rest of the calories are for foods that are not so functional. Pass the chips!!! Can I get a beer to wash those down?

Everyone has posted a lot of great suggestions!....from reducing sugar and milk, using artificial sweetners or drinking it black. I love my coffee too....with cream and sugar (although I don't over indulge in the cream and sugar, my average cup of coffee is about 80 cals). I opted for drinking my coffee the way I love it…

My thoughts exactly! Encouraging a young woman who is a healthy weight to lose 17 pounds is just wrong.

Ahh crap. I must be officially old because I love them!

Don't torture yourself, forget the bike riding! Stick with walking, hiking, maybe eventually progress to light jogging and walking intervals. Invest in some weights and start lifting. Also youtube is a great resource for free workouts. I like Sean Vigue fitness. He does a lot of HIIT training, body weight exercises,…

Confused....how in the world could Twitter assist in weight loss?

^^^Excellent Advice!

You need to see a Doctor. I'm sure it's nothing serious but it needs to be checked out asap.

I love Star Wars, Star Trek, X-Men, The Avengers, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin, anything Sci-fi or paranormal and dressing up as a barmaid and going to the Ren Faire. (I should note that I'm a female, not that's there's anything wrong with a guy dressing up as a barmaid at Ren Faire...not judging:wink: )

^^^This!!! I work out to be fit and healthy. Even if I was at my ideal weight and could rock a bikini (like that will ever happen;)......I wouldn't stop or ease up on my fitness routine!!!

I'll reiterate what most people have said. You can't spot reduce so just stick with your calorie deficit and lift heavy weight!!! Compound moves!!!

Awesome inspirational post!! Congratulations!! I'm not a senior, but at 55 I'm not a spring chicken either! It's so important to stay active all of your life!!!!!
-
I agree with everyone else.....sit ups, crunches just not very effective exercises. Your time and your goals could be better spent elsewhere.

Sorry about the bad relationship!! I'm glad that you have decided to move on!! As far as the scale - throw that thing out of your place too! The scale is such a poor indicated of progress and yet people allow themselves to be defined by the number. Whatever you thought was your start weight, what it really was is of no…

I have the Flex and love it!!!! It keeps me motivated to get those 10,000 steps daily!!! I'm a numbers kind of person and I like being able to tap the app on my iphone and see all the stats (steps, miles, active minutes). It's a great little fitness tool!!

So were all in agreement with that free weight are the best. That being said, if starting with machines makes you comfortable then go for it. I tend to go for the machines that work the chest and back (chest press, lat pull down, rows). I also like to do the 'the torture tower of terror'. Ok I don't know what's it's called…

Girl...you are a mess! Pop, coffee with sugar, chocolate milk....all sugary drinks that CAN be consume but in MODERATION. Stop trying to cheat the calorie gods by swapping 6 pops a day with 6 coffees and chocolate milks a day. At the end of the day....it's still all too much! Step one - LOG EVERYTHING Step two - get the…

LOL.....we all have that friend or two on our list who just quite hasn't figured out 'posting ettiquette'. I have one on mine that literally posts 1 or 2 selfies a day. It's always the same angle, same almost duckface, same cleavage. Some people just are OCD and have no filter to gage when they've crossed that line and are…

I'll second the Leslie Sanson 'Walk at Home' program. I love her DVD's! Some are available for free on youtube!

Nuts peanut butter full fat cheeses olive oil avocados Ditch the 'lite' and fat free versions of foods and opt for full fat.

If you have access to youtube you can do a search for 'chair exercises'. I know I've come across some on there before. Also resistance or stretchy bands are nice for strength training or even some hand weights are good to get some mobility work in. And if you are able to get around, walking is one of the best things you…

Cleanses are not necessary, that's what your liver and kidneys are for! If you want to do your body good, eat at a healthy calorie deficit, eat healthy 80% of the time (and reserve a few calories for a treat!), drink water and move!! There is no need for drastic measures!!

1200 calories a day is too low for most people. Most likely below your BMR (basal metabolic rate)...meaning if you were lying in a coma you'd burn that many calories just for basic brain and body function. Since you only have a few pounds to lose it's best to set your goal to a 1/2 a week...which will give you more…

Vacations are for fun!!!!.....food included!! Just enjoy yourself and return to your healthy habits when the vaca is over. Quite honestly, I usually lose or at least maintain when we go on vacation. Even though we eat differently then usual we're so active it balances out. Life is short...ENJOY!

I have a son who is 33 years old...........at 55 that makes me ancient!!!
