I like Travis Elliot, but there are so many DVDs to pick from. YouTube is a great place to look and get a feel for a teacher before committing to buy the whole DVD.

Last year I went from having a fairly active job with lots of walking to a desk job. Then I had a hysterectomy for cancer and my lack of hormones made me anxious and depressed. Then my father in law died, and I felt even more depressed. So pretty much a combination of that and sitting around too much, combined with eating…

Oh wow....these sound yummy! I may have to try these this week, thanks for sharing!
-
Sounds very relaxing. Nothing like a good stretch before bed!

That's what I've read, and I'm pretty sure it's true. I did better when I didn't eat many exercise calories back, and that's probably why.
-
Ahh...I haven't used it in awhile. Hopefully they fix it and not run off new user.

Youtube has tons of videos, and Doyogawithme.com has all sorts of free videos of all types of yoga variations. Travis Elliot has a yoga foundations DVD that I've heard is good. I've never done that one though, just his Ultimate Yogi dvd set.

I don't necessarily get exhausted from it, but by the time savasana rolls around I'm usually very relaxed and have dozed off in those few minutes of quiet.

It calculates them for you and syncs to MFP automatically.

I second the YouTube idea, or if you have a smartphone there are tons of free apps. I like Sworkit, which is short 30 second intervals of an exercise repeated in the length of time you choose. Walking is also a good exercise, it's free and the equipment is always available

LOL! I completely agree, sometimes that's a great motivator. Seeing how you look from 3 or 4 different angles can be a shocker sometimes. But then again, sometimes you get a pleasant NSV when something you didn't think would fit and still look good actually does!

I hope you smiled, shot them the finger, and kept on walking. People can be such jerks sometimes.

I'm lucky enough to have a great group of ladies in my friends list. We all have those days where we don't make the healthiest choices, but we encourage each other and celebrate successes, no matter how small. I've only had one semi negative comment on my diary, and that was from a lady who said "I don't like shakes"…
-
You look great! Gotta love those NSVs!
-
Oh definitely! I can tell the difference in my attitude when I don't make it to the mat for a few days.
-
Well said MelanieBester! :drinker:
-
That's pretty much what I've been doing, but sometimes it just feels like I should log more considering the amount of sweat I've left on the mat, lol!

I don't know about OP, but I don't restrict or cut out the not so healthy foods. I try and limit them, which isn't always successful, but that's ok because I'm not doing this solely for weight loss. My comment about "smartass remarks" was just an observation that when someone asks a question like the OP, there is always…

Exactly. A fast food meal can easily top 1200 calories, and leave you hungry by dinner time. There have been days when I struggle to eat my allotted calories if I've stayed on track with healthier foods, which tend to leave me full and not wanting to snack much. Someone always has to chime in with a smartass remark, lol.

^^^ This. So much this.

Yes! Yoga and pilates are both great muscle toners. Youtube has a lot of videos so you can try out different styles and see what you like.

 My 'why' is to be healthy. It started out as doing it purely for vanity reasons, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I wasn't getting any younger. I've managed to lose the weight I gained after surgery last year, but I'd like to lose another 20 and not be considered obese anymore. It's a struggle,…

I like the chocolate Shakeology, but I always read these threads because I'm looking for something that's not so pricey. I've seen the HEB protein shakes mentioned a few times, so that might be the one I try first.

I haven't broken one, but my husband has gone through a few of them.
-
  I see what you did there.

I second the vote for Sworkit! They have a good variety of exercises plus choice of times, and it connects to MFP!
-
I do that pose too. Sometimes I rotate the hip outward in that position just a little bit, and raise my head up towards my knee for a few seconds. It really gets a good stretch that way.

Awesome transformation!

That's kind of what I had figured, I would have done both just to be on the safe side. :)
