Wow. This thread actually awarded me some hate mail.
-
Actually, I'm with you there, I didn't bother with candy corn this year. I learned my lesson last year.
-
But but chocolate is sex you don't have to shave your legs for!!
-
You're still a sarcastic jerk who adds nothing to the many threads he lurks around! I can be on the Atkins and be allowed Halloween candy for a day. Go be obnoxious somewhere else.
-
Yeah, I decided to take the Oatmeal route for tonight. Did an hour of crazy intense Elliptical machine workout and insanity and then went and bought reeses!
-
Lol!! One for you, one for me. One for you, two for me. Half of one for you, three for me.
-
You're going to get teepee'd!!
-
Haha! Don't quote me on that. I just remember reading it somewhere.

How do you differentiate binging vs just overeating? Isn't binging when you have over 1000 calories in under fifteen minutes?
-
That tends to be the neon light that people against the Atkins diet point out. You have to take supplements if you do the induction phase since it doesn't provide you with nearly enough nutrients.

I absolutely agree with this. It's staggering the amount of vegetarians that are women with eating disorders; kind of scary too.
-
What? I thought you were asking for food spice advice, lol.
-
I'd recommend exercise! Why aren't you exercising? It's just as important as diet!

After trying out the Atkins for about half a month... I discovered it's not a realistic diet choice for someone who is very active. I feel like protein is awesome in how it keeps you full and it's a necessary component of a healthy diet but unfortunately your body can't really pull immediate energy from meats when you do a…

It sounds like there are also some people who use Atkins for only a short period of time to cut calories and than they go back to the general MLP method of just watching their calorie intake and exercise. I think knowing the pros and cons of the diet can end up helping you if you know what the diet is good for and take…

I tend to take recommendations from friends and family. I buy the books and read up on them a little first as well even though I didn't really look into particular case studies online. I just heard that Atkins methods worked for people I personally know who have similar dispositions and personal habits. What kind of…

That is a rumor that vegan groups have propagated. Atkins died from a concussion when he slipped on ice to his way to work. He had been suffering from cardiomyopathy for several years, which is a viral condition that can be caused by a variety of things. There is no proof that his diet had anything to do with the…

It's a little more difficult though because meats tend to be very filling. You tend to eat less on a low-carb diet just because the foods fill you up quickly. I can't for the world of me manage to eat over 2000 calories on this diet because I just feel way too bloated.

Once you finally turn it into a habit you begin getting addicted to exercise; it gives you this glorious little high when you get your heart rate up. I think most people are just afraid of that slogan "No Pain, No Gain." It's more like "No Effort, No Gain" though. You don't have to go outside and run a 5k right off the…

Sometimes I do it just to see what kind of results someone has gotten from a specific exercise regimen, but no, not generally. Even though I get messaged pretty frequently by people who obviously creeped through mine...

Protein shakes and bars are a great way to supplement if you are trying to hit a set goal. I've noticed for myself personally that I prefer getting my protein from meats, eggs and cheeses because they tend to have less sugar in them than the bars, plus they are less pricey.

Welcome to MFP Chris. I think this will end up being a helpful resource for breaking bad old habits and furnish a fresh new start for yourself! Doing MFP is fun and it makes you feel instigated to be more active and eat healthy sensible foods. Good luck! I hope this ends up being life changing for you.

My Mom and I also worked at a small preschool part time after I graduated from college. We both gained quite a bit of weight even though we were very active, running to and from classrooms and spending time with kids. I mostly attribute it to all the pastries and sweets that people would bring in; I had a bad habit of…

Really? That's really interesting; I wonder if you can apply that to brisk walking as well. You eventually stop burning anything once your body has adjusted.

I think you're right, I'm beginning to feel pretty ridiculous for posting this topic. lol.

Thaaaat is probably the best choice; when I started working I logged it away every single day and it gave me an extra 600 to play with at the end of the day, which felt strange because it never felt like I'd really burned 600 just standing. I was curious to see what other people thought.
-
It's a fair question.
-
I don't know!! How about you test it. Stop for an hour and see if not breathing makes you fat.

I'm not desperate for calories. I'm just curious what it might be good for.
