  • I also agree that you should be sure to get a real diagnosis from a doctor just to be on the safe side. That's kind of important to know. I might use this recipe for myself. I've heard some wonderful things about coconut milk.
  • Chocolate is pretty delicious and addictive! I think it's just a type of sugar craving for you. One way to ward those off is to turn to fruit. I've also heard that peppermint can deter sugar cravings also, interestingly enough, so brushing your teeth or chewing on gum can help.
  • Because they're addictive if you have a sweet tooth like me, lol.
  • I love that I've been able to wean myself off of noodles and breads finally. I was pretty addicted to sweets and pastries. I had a hard time showing any kind of self restraint whenever coworkers brought brownies and cake to the break room. Thanks a bunch, likewise!
  • What does IIFYM stand for again? I'm sorry, I'm still a little new to the community and learning all the lingo. That's pretty impressive that you've been doing the ketosis thing for over a whole year. I hear mixed things about how healthy it is to be doing it for very long because high levels of ketones are toxic to the…
  • That's awesome! So you must have already gotten past the induction phase, right? Did you do the ketosis sticks and such? I'm glad you're seeing results! The first 14 days are pretty rough.
  • An augmented version of the Atkins diet seems best; if you try to follow it to the letter for years at a time I think it'll be really hard to keep up because everybody has a beer and a brownie every now and then. I've never been pregnant but I do see myself having children at some point in the future. Whenever I'm hormonal…
  • That's the key thing that I really enjoy about it, I'm not always craving carbs anymore the way I used to. I think there is still quite a bit to be said for the low-carb diet if you can come up with a variation of interesting dishes and create options whenever you eat out with friends. You don't have to always observe the…
  • Be sure that you're eating the right foods; things that are high-protein will keep you satiated much longer.
  • Low-cal and will definitely curb your salt craving!
  • This situation is exactly what work break rooms are for! Take it to work and leave it for people who might like it.
  • I definitely feel like following the Atkins to the letter isn't really the best idea; seems like people who have more success with it do an augmented version. The high-fat portion of the diet does get dicey for some people; being allowed to eat tons of bacon and mayonnaise is pretty strange if you're concerned about your…
  • I definitely can see how some people would see it as being tricky to navigate social settings on this diet. I think I've been kind of lucky in that many dinner parties I've been to provide cheese and veggie platters but that's definitely not the case all the time. It really does have a very long list of restrictions but do…
  • I got that vibe from the site as well. The information it was using to back up it's claim seemed sort of shaky. The stuff about protein being inflammatory and cancer-causing confuses me. Do you have any recommendations for better websites that give more solid information about nutrition and protein?
  • It really isn't hard for me to stick to an Atkins diet because I was kind of raised on it; I could easily enjoy all manners of meat and cheese and veggies indefinitely but that's because I'm surrounded by people that eat the exact same way. Of course from time to time you're bound to have a piece of pizza and a beer but…
  • Last time I went to long john silvers there wasn't really an option for grilled fish; if I were you I'd stick to the fish filets, cole slaw and green beans!
  • Boiled eggs and cheese will keep you nice and full until your next meal!
  • Have you told your sister that you're currently on a diet and trying to avoid baked goodies? Maybe you should see if anybody else would like it?
  • Absolutely! That's the one thing I've always struggled with. When I'm watching my calorie intake I tend to be hungry all the time; now that I'm focusing on fats and proteins though I'm hardly ever that way. I used to be unable to finish workouts because I would have to stop and grab a banana or a protein bar since I'd be…
  • Doing a no carb diet would be one thing but just a low-carb does allow for many other foods at restaurants and friends houses. To be fair I was raised by parents who only ever did the atkins diet so I was used to hardly ever eating carbohydrates but when I moved out and went to college I gained a ton of weight because I…
  • Low-carb diet for me doesn't mean cutting out fruits forever. Of course I'll always consider eating pizza, pie and cake to be a kind of splurging, but I think those items are on most diets splurge list anyway. It seems like most people prefer quantitative diets to qualitative, which for me is kind of a nuisance because…
  • Maybe you could try focusing on the kinds of calories you're eating and be sure that you do have an exercise regimen established to help maintain your current weight.
  • That's awesome. I was wondering if doing long runs or circuit training would be hard with less carbs; at first I would feel really tired doing my insanity workouts when I started the induction phase of the Atkins. It's good to hear that a real runner is able to do well on a low-carb diet. I love pan fried tilapia and tuna;…
  • Right, that's the only thing about this diet. Breakfast cereal, pretty much any starch and refined carbs are out but I don't think it's the worst thing since they are pretty addictive and I've never personally felt really filled up from a bowl of cereal or a piece of bread. This last year I came off of a pescatarian diet…
  • Ohhh, thanks for catching that. I should've just said sugar then. I'm not really a diabetic and I don't personally know any diabetics; my knowledge is pretty limited. I thought you could use that word interchangeably with sugar.
  • Fruits need to be balanced out with other foods in a diet. For example, an apple will raise your blood sugar. Your body naturally turns to carbs and sugars first so if you consume so many apples, your body will be unable to burn fat. It's pretty basic nutrition.
  • I understand that from your profile. I'm curious to get solid first-hand information from people who've had experience with this particular diet.
  • I think it's absolutely possible. Muscle weighs more than fat!
