  • Shannon, I am in similar straits. I had a bad cold and even though my symptoms are breaking up I feel exhausted. I just try to get extra sleep, take vitamins, and push myself when I can because I always feel better emotionally when I can exercise. I had been doing a fairly low carb diet, because that works for my…
  • well no not simple, but Isabelle, you are not an idiot. Don't just grit through it, starving; how long could you keep that up? Also, your body's metabolism will adapt to the new caloric level. You don't mention exercise, and I wonder if you have talked to any kind of professional (your doctor, a nutritionist, a trainer)…
  • If you don't think there is a conspiracy you have your head in the sand. Queenliz99, watch this movie, learn about Macros, talk to a nutritionist. Sugar is more and more being seen as a toxin to the body and it is really hard to avoid if you are eating at places like McDonalds. http://fedupmovie.com/#/page/home
  • my favorite lie I tell myself when I truly want to indulge, even though I know its not true is, if you break a cookie in half before eating it, all the calories fall out the crack.
  • anyone try Paleo protein bars? They look great, but cost $3 a bar.
  • hey all. A lifetime of being overweight, and a family tendency for tight tendons, but always liking physical activity has given me a body wracked with osteoarthritis and bursitis. I keep on keepin on, doing what I can, modifying where I have to, getting help when I need it. It helps to have companionship in our drive for…
  • I am a Gold's member and of all the gyms I have belonged to I like them best. They have a variety of classes and they offer a Fit Test which gives you a great picture of your fitness, so you know what to work on. The staff is all friendly and helpful, and supportive of people who aren't already super fit. If you are a gym…
  • does it hurt if you sit with your leg out almost straight and just tighten up the quad muscle, without actually moving anything? Isometrics, while slower than dynamic exercise, can help build muscle without putting strain on the joint. This will help you recover from your upcoming surgery. (In case you are wondering why I…
  • wow! you are way braver than i am. I am avoiding surgery like the plague.
  • thanks, quzzdragon, I meant i am in constant pain because of my osteoarthritis and bursitis, not from exercise. as a matter of fact while I am exercising I am rarely in pain, and have great stamina and energy, so its hard to not take all the classes i want since they make me feel so good. I did well today though. I worked…
  • linnellal, therapy doesn't always help. do talk to your PT, but also talk to an orthopedic surgeon again too. don't ignore it and don't let docs push your concerns aside under the "well you are obese, so what do you expect?" umbrella. I get cortisone shots and i am working to try to get synvisc from my insurance company.
  • I also like any brand that has gel insoles. Merrill shoes are good, but expensive, I can often fined them on sale at TJ Maxx. Also Hush Puppies sells a shoe called the Body Shoe which I love for work shoes. And yes, I have a pair of Earth Spirit sandals I got from Kmart.
  • good deal. PT is not fun. glad you are talking with your therapist about the exercises, cuz PT only works if you do it.
  • hi, new to the group, but glad I found you all. I have femoral/patellar knee pain and arthritis, plus I have Haglund's deformity and achillies' tendonitis. So I have to do a LOT of modifying exercises for my small group classes at the gym. I don't find zumba to be good for my particular joint problems at all. TRX exercises…
  • Hey Becky, I always like finding someone with the same name. I usually do eat back some of my calories, especially on days when I m exercising very heavily. I try to never eat back more than half of my exercise cals, and usually manage that goal unless I slip and eat a "bad" thing.
  • I get them on a fairly routine basis through the day. Tried Black cohosh, soy isoflavones, nothing helped much. I get them so suddenly I get nauseated and light headed sometimes. I find I do better with them on days when I exercise hard and keep my simple carbs low, which I should be doing anyway. I doesn't help much to…
  • Intek Protein, has a blend of whey, casein and albumin, so reportedly is better utilized by the body. sweetened with stevia. Many flavors. I am a short, female endomorph and do heavy workouts several times a week, so I find the supplements help keep my protein up. I use a scoop of vanilla in my coffee, or greek yogurt.
