I love Trader Joe's! I wish we had one closer to our house, i.e. within an hour and a half drive. We do have an Aldi's, though. I'm trying to content myself with that. (My birthday treat is a splurge trip to Trader Joe's.....)

I have to say that I really enjoy the smoothie recipes from GreenBlender. You can see their recipes without having to subscribe to their smoothie delivery service.

As noted above, in season fruits and veggies tend to be a big cheaper than out of season stuff. I also buy bulk whole grains and dried beans which keeps my food cost down. We also buy some fruits and veggies frozen. I can feed my family of 4 on less than $100 a week, including non-food items (laundry detergent, etc.) by…

My family gets the flu shot, and we do so for many, many reasons. First, an extended family member has an agressive form of cancer, and in order to help him do the best he can with their treatment, we are doing everything we can to not bring illness into their house. Second, my nephew on the other side of the family has a…

I love piri piri and I also love harissa.

Congratulations on starting C25K! I did the program 6 years ago, and haven't stopped running since. I still run 4-ish times a week, 3-5 miles per run. And I love it! Occasionally I train more when I sign up for a 10K or a half marathon, and then gradually up my mileage accordingly. As other wise people have posted, please…

I am assuming that with a bariatric sleeve you are also working with a nutritionist and your doctor. What do they say about your weight stall? I'd be very hesitant to take advice from people on this forum, as your diet requirements are going to be outside what most of us are knowledgeable about. Congratulations on the…

Eat more carbs. They are energy. But eat the healthier carbs- whole grains, legumes, etc. rather than the white bread variety.

I think it's a fantastic idea to encourage people to eat 8-10 servings of fruit and veggies a day. I think one easy way to sneak in 1-3 servings of fruits and veggies will be through green smoothies, depending upon how you make them. And then two fruits/vegs with each meal for breakfast lunch, dinner.

The rule in my house is the chef chooses the menu. If I want to eat cauliflower, I'll cook it. If someone doesn't like it, they know to take a "no thank you" bite and leave it politely on their plate. My job is to put mostly healthy food on the plate, it's their job to choose what to eat off of the plate. That said, I love…

OP: In all seriousness, are you thinking of having children? And if you do have them, would you be interested in breastfeeding them? Many, many women have the "safe for breastfeeding" procedures done, but end up being unable to breastfeed. It could be that there was not enough glandular tissue in the first place to allow…

I did GreenBlender for a week. It's a smoothie delivery box. It's expensive ($50 for a week of 5 smoothie recipes with two servings per smoothie) but I tried smoothie combinations that I never would have thought of. And they were delicious. It has given me the confidence to make a wider variety of smoothies at home once my…

Just a question, why are you trying to stay away from carbs? Eating protein from healthy, nutrient-dense sources seems to be a good way to go, especially if you focus on beans and whole grains to get your proteins. In my opinion, when people want to stay away from carbs, they tend to mean the carbs that are not…

My first reaction is to say go to the A&E and get it looked at. If you can't put any weight on it, it might be broken and not simply sprained. Drs. advice of how and when to return to exercise will depend upon whether or not its broken or sprained, the severity of the injury, and the location of the injury (type of…

For recipes, check out Thug Kitchen's books or blog. Lots of profanity, but good recipes. I also love the Appetite for Reduction cookbook by Isa Chandra Moskowitz.

If you like Siracha sauce, you may also wish to try harissa. It's fabulous as well! http://www.bestproducts.com/eats/food/g2031/harissa-paste-sauce-brands/

Hey, so I have done two halfs. One I trained for, with my longer runs ranging from 6-12 miles, and one half I did with little training with a few 6 and 8 mile runs. I recommend training for at least one 10, 11, or even 12 mile run. The half I trained for was much easier to complete and I felt good and confident the whole…

I found out that a lot of time it wasn't the entrée that took the most time, but cooking rice to go with it. I started making double the rice and then freezing the leftovers for future use. I do something very similar to this. I can usually cook veggies and chicken and a pan sauce in less than 15 minutes.…

Hi! I just want to clarify something.... are asking about workouts to do now, with a 3 week old, or to start on in a few weeks once you get the ok from a medical care provider? Pregnancy and childbirth can be hard on a body. You might want to give your body a few more weeks to recover from the pregnancy and birth. Also,…

HILARIOUS! And I wish I had thought of it first..............

Hi! What time did you go to bed last night? Did you get a full night's sleep before today? Also, I love to workout first thing in the morning. I do think that it takes your body a few weeks to really adjust to working out in the morning if you are used to working out later in the day. Give your body a few more days to…

I have split pea soup in the crockpot and homemade whole wheat bread in the bread machine. YUMMY!!! And my kids LOVE split pea soup, go figure....

This sounds like one of the most complete descriptions of shin splints I have ever read. Thank you so much for sharing. I used to get shin splints when I ran (I ran cross-country in High School). One I picked up running again as an adult I never had shin splints. I bet it was because this time I was starting off slower…

I am so sorry you are suffering from PF. It is incredibly painful. I had it for many months a few years ago. The only things that helped me were the custom orthotics and the stretching exercises. I religiously wore my orthotics for years and did the proscribed stretches daily. I can now walk barefoot in the summer for…

Hi, So you why can't you eat a snack when you get home from work to tide you over, then eat dinner around 7:00? My hours are similar to yours, but I got to bed at 10:00, not 11:00. I'm starving when I get home from work, but I eat a snack then the meal later. Or I eat a snack while driving home in the car. If I ate dinner…

There is a product called Go Picnic with shelf-stable healthy foods. You could get a few to keep in your truck with you. The meals are around 350 to 400 calories a meal, so you may wish to supplement with an apple or something else. We take them with us on our cross-country road trips and I have really enjoyed some of the…

Would you consider eating a tofu scramble for breakfast? Appetite for Reduction has a yummy one in it, and it's vegan, so it should fit your self-imposed challenge.

Hi! This sounds kinda crazy. I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this! I second other posters recommendations that you get another doc to take a look at you, especially a second neurologist. I am not a medical doctor, and we can't diagnose you over the Internet, as you know. This sounds a bit like a friend of…

If I was fighting the flu and breastfeeding a baby (please don't stop breastfeeding while you have the flu.... usually your body provides antibodies to help your little one fight the flu more efficiently), I wouldn't worry about calories for awhile. Make sure you stay hydrated and eat to keep your supply up and your energy…
