  • Now, here's a piggyback question: Can you over do it on the electrolytes? Like it is possible to harm yourself by drinking too much electrolyte solution stuff? Of does it just simply pass through your body? Thanks!
  • I'm American, but make Toads in the Hole for my family as comfort food once or twice a year. I love that meal. I like how you improved it with healthier sausage and skim milk.
  • When we go out for ice cream, I usually ask for a kid's serving. It's enough of a treat for me to eat without feeling overly stuffed or overly guilty. Or I share with my hubby. Now, that being said, I have found my newest obsession. Homemade sorbet--- I control the quality and amount of the fruit and the sugar. YUMMY!!!
  • I am so proud of you!
  • What does your typical grocery list look like? You've gotten great advice above. I also buy dried beans and cook them up, super cheap and a bag makes a ton of beans to throw into other dishes all week long to bulk up other dishes. For me, a bag of dried beans costs less than a dollar, and a pound bag cooks up to make a ton…
  • maybe your hurt a ligament or a tendon?
  • Go Picnic has shelf stable meal options. Pack some of those, maybe some fresh fruit in a cooler.
  • Charlie horse is like a muscle cramp (in the back of your leg, calf muscle), and shin splints tend to hurt in the front of your shin. Which do you think it is?
  • The green one.
  • Make sure you are wearing socks that don't aggravate your blisters, and go for a shorter run. I got some blisters when I was training for my half (wore bad socks on a long run). The first mile of my next few runs were bad, but usually didn't bother me once I got going.
  • I respectfully disagree. Why should she cook a separate meal (even if it is easily prepared like processed foods)? Why should she give into his demands and give him unhealthy foods? I don't understand..... she is making real, healthy foods. Why shouldn't he be expected to eat it? it's not like he's allergic to anything she…
  • Are your doing static (old school) stretching or dynamic stretching (moving stretching)? That's the only thing I can think of, other than possibly needing new shoes. All the advice is to do dynamic stretching before the workout as you are less likely to tear or injure yourself.
  • That's the rule in my house, with two little kids. That said, though, I try to include something at each meal that they would like so that if they don't like the whole meal, there is still something for them to eat. It's my job to put food on the table that I am comfortable with them eating, it's their job to eat it.
  • I've used Emergen-C's electrolyte mix drink before and really liked it. It doesn't have any sugar in it, and the little packets are easy to carry with you to add to water bottles. When I was training for my half marathon, I would try to drink one the day before my long runs to help me stay hydrated and balanced during my…
  • Ok, so honestly I haven't ever eaten a ton of processed foods, but I will say that it's a learning process. My mom was a great home cook when I was growing up. I ate a lot of processed foods in college and right out of college, as I had limited kitchen space/access in college, and then a lack of know-how once I graduated.…
  • I have a few embarrassing injuries. 1) Broke my ankle while walking one a flat sidewalk. No idea how it happened. One minute walking, I must have rolled it, next minute down on the ground in pain. My friends were trying to figure out what the heck had happened. 2) A year or two ago I managed to sprain my ankle while…
  • Hi! I'm a mom to two small ones, not three, but I understand how hard it is to lose weight and be a great parent. Don't worry, if you use MFP and are serious about it, this website works! I lost 40 lbs after the birth of #2,and have kept it off for going on two years.
  • I didn't read the replies, so forgive me if I am repeating what others have said: YUP, eat cupcakes. I ate cupcakes and other yummy stuff, and lost 40lbs. 1) Bake your own mini cupcakes... make your own frosting. Enjoy it. This way you know what's in your cupcakes. And mini-cupcakes are more about portion control. I also…
  • I had a great experience with the program. It took me a bit longer than the 9 weeks due to illness, but I ended up being a runner. Two years later, I'm still running, and have done a ton of 5Ks, one 10K, and one half.
  • MFP won't let me edit my earlier post. I wanted to add that a few of the Go Picnic options appear to be grain free as well as gluten-free. I have tried 3 or 4 of the boxes and really like them, but not these combinations in particular. My FIL is a celiac, but can eat other grains and loves to take the GF boxes on long car…
  • Go Picnic boxes have GF options and are shelf stable. Luna Bars are just nuts, dried fruits, and maybe some spices. YUM!
  • What show are you watching that is inspiring you all? I WANT to see it, if I can. I'll add my 2 cents in with everyone else: You CAN do it! I did C25K a few years ago, and slowly worked my way up through 5Ks, a 10K, and a half over the next two years. Take your time, do a walk/run program (C25K, Galloway, Hal Higgdon?) to…
  • Fantastic accomplishment!
  • C25K and make sure you have good running shoes.
  • I did a half in the spring. I ate as I would normally do for most of the week. For my one long run of the week, I would eat more that day or the day after depending upon my appetite. But that was only for 4 or so runs that I did above 8 miles. The cost of eating more was negligible. I did, however, buy the Emergen-C's…
  • I did C5K, ran a ton of 5Ks (maybe 30) over the course of a year and a half. Last fall I did a 10K, and then did a half marathon this past spring. C25K was a great program to use to get into running. I took my time upping my mileage from that to longer distances so as not to risk a lot of injuries.
  • My ob/gyn kept me on pregnancy vitamins for a few years, during pregnancy, breastfeeding and beyond. His advice was, if you think you might want to get pregnant in the upcoming year, keep on taking the prenatal vitamins. Currently (as I have no wish to have another child in the near future) I take a Flintstone's vitamin.…
  • Here's my general guideline: If I am running a fever- no exercise for me (plus 24 hours after the fever ends). If I am just generally feeling blah- yes, I try to exercise. BUT, if I have a cough/congested chest/lungs issue-then no exercise for me. I don't want to risk any of that getting worse. If it's just a sinus/snot…
  • I have PF, and my pain was not in my heel, but under the arch in the center of my foot. I saw a pod., who prescribed custom orthotics. They are amazing. I do not have any pain in my heel anymore!
  • OP: Your wrote: "So, I guess the question I'm asking is, is it wrong to get tired of dragging everyone along behind me?" and earlier you wrote: "A couple of nights ago I finally said that I’m feeling pretty alone and that I would like to do some stuff together (again). I was asked what I was thinking of. So I said, “Maybe…
