  • I am just like you.... and waiting to hear everyone's responses. I am cold, cold, cold almost all the time, and I wear many layers, just as you do.
  • We got a Keurig earlier this year. I like the variety of things you can drink, tea, coffees, iced coffees, hot chocolate, cider, etc.
  • I second the Cooking Light suggestion-- I usually make a great salad and my husband makes a fruit salad for all of our holiday dinners. We also try to roast alot of veggies for a nice side, and I make my own cranberry sauce. That way I can go a bit crazy on the stuffing and other unhealthies on the actual day., but not…
  • What do you call a cow without any legs? Ground beef.... ha ha ha ha ha I hope that was clean enough for your kids........
  • Me!!!! ME!!!! ME!!! I was diagnosed have having ADHD and dyslexia as a child. I was on meds for a bit, but got massive migraines from them, so I stopped taking them. I still have alot of dyslexic tendencies and am really ADD in real life at times I have trouble focusing, but found that my smartphone has really helped me...…
  • Totally different answer than the one you are looking for, but........ I downloaded the podcasts from runningintoshape.com for free and listened to Carli and her music. It was a great way for me to work through the program.
  • I may get flamed for this, but I agree with the Club Director on this one. If you can't control the weights, you shouldn't be lifting so heavy.
  • Hi, I got plantar fasciitis a little over a year ago. At first, I did the exercises, ice, ibuprofen, wearing sturdy shoes, etc. I got to the point where I could walk, but was still in pain and it never fully healed. I sprained my foot about 6 months later, and that doctor recommended I go see a podiatrist. I went, and she…
  • I second the idea of running a few light runs early this week and then taking 2-3 days off before the race. Don't forget to warm up well before the race. Have a blast!!!
  • Are you eligible for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program/ food stamps? Are you able to get some food from local food pantries? SNAP might give you a bit of money to purchase some healthier foods-- frozen or canned veggies, dried beans, peanut butter, oatmeal, anything that can get you some healthier food in your…
  • I'd take a little bit (tablespoon or two) into a separate bowl, mix in a bit of red and blue and see if you can make a pretty purple out of it. How brown is brown on the icing? Other alternative, go to a crafting store and spend a few bucks on gel colors and see if you can find one that might work for you. Third…
  • My FAVORITE smoothie is from Cynthia Sass's Cinch! book: Chocolate Pear Ginger Smoothie. 1 small pear, sliced 1/4 cup rolled oats 8 oz skim milk 1/4 cup chocolate chips (I use dark chocolate chips, and melt them in the microwave) 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger Place the pear, oats, milk, chocolate chips, and ginger in…
  • Hi, Here's my strategy for Thanksgiving.... 1) Workout early that am. I am planning on a long run (6 ish miles), or something that is equally taxing. 2) Healthy but filling breakfast. I am planning on making oatmeal in the crockpot, topped with fresh fruit for breakfast. 3) I'm making some of the sides myself, and making…
  • While I agree with running longer helps you run faster, doing some interval work might help you, also. I try to do either week one or week two of C25K one day each week. I sprint (run as fast as I can) for the jog intervals and jog slowly for the walk intervals. My fastest 5K is under 25 minutes, FWIW. Up until very…
  • brush your teeth. The minty toothpaste taste usually takes away my quest for sweets. That said, I think if you can afford the calories, go for something worthwhile- good quality dark chocolate. YUM!
  • So... not healthy at all, but I am making mummy dogs earlier in the day and then re-heating them at dinner time. It's the one day of the year I will make hotdogs for the kids.
  • I didn't read the responses. Here's what I do.... everyone gets candy. But I have two types in my bowl, good candy (fun snickers, milkyway, etc.) and cheap candy (the cheapest candy I can find in the store). Those who are dressed up get handed the good candy. Those who are not dressed up get a dum-dum lollypop or other…
  • My parents live in Montgomery County, MD. They had power this am, and said they were ok. Thousands are without power, though, in their area.
  • I live in Texas, but grew up in MD. I was in MD during that Derecho storm this summer, and we lost power for a few crazy days. It was crazy, because it was chaotic-- no gasoline at gas stations that had electricity, no electricity at gas stations that had gas. No food stores open that had food, trees across most of the…
  • Are you still throwing up water? Are you able to keep anything down? You might be very dehydrated. If you can't keep anything down, including water, please go seek medical attention quickly. Get yourself hydrated. Also, if you are used to eatin well below your goal, then upping it suddently might really hurt your…
  • Way tooo funny!
  • I haven't read any replies, but here's my story. When did you have your (last???) child/how old were you? I had my youngest child at 35, currently 38 years old. How much did you lose and how long did it take to get rid of the weight? When she was 18 months old, I started exercising. It took me about 9 months to lose the…
  • Way to go! Your first 5K is a great feeling, isn't it?
  • Look up a recipe for unfried refried beans.... I like them much more than refried beans in a Mexican restaurant. I smear them in tortillas, add cheese and it's a quick and easy dinner or lunch. Also, try to cook the dried beans yourself. I find beans in a can mushy, but if I soak and then cook beans in a crockpot all day,…
  • air popped popcorn..... very few calories, unless you drown them in butter.
  • Have you seen a doctor? A doctor should be able to tell you if it is a stress fracture versus a different type of injury. Recommendations for activity would depend upon what is going on with your foot.
  • I had plantar fasciitis, and it sounds alot like what you are describing. I finally went to an ortho, who prescribed custom orthotics. After wearing them for a week, the pain went away! Now I only have pain if I don't wear my orthotic one day or walk around barefoot all day.
  • I am a substitute teacher, too. I don't work a second job, but I do have two little kidlets so that is almost a second job. I usually make refrigerator oatmeal the night before (oatmeal, water or milk, dried fruit, nuts, etc.) and it's ready the next morning. I make a loaf of bread into peanut butter and jelly sandwiches…
  • You really shouldn't be terrified of your doctor. Is there another doctor available for you to see? Or can you go to a different clinic or something? Now I don't love my doc or anything, but I do feel like he's there willing to work with me to help get me better.
  • runningintoshape.com has C25K podcasts with a decent choice of music. Some weeks are more enjoyable than others, but overall I like the mix of music Carli chose.
