I hated running and started for the same reason! I took a friends advice and used my ipod. I'd walk for a song, run for a song...had to do that for a few weeks and will never forget the day the song ended and I kept running! Now I. LIVE to run! Can't do without it! Runnersworld.com is full of info and a lot of fun!

I'm trying to combat this problem by taking a year off racing and just concentrating on enjoying the run. My mileage has naturally increased and I'm faster...I think just because of the joy of it! That being said, a friend once told me that training only gets you so far, 'till "grit and moxie" kicks in!

Oh boy!!!! If there's one thing I could change. Growing up Norwegian, you're taught that sugar accompanies all the normal highs and lows of life. I wish my folks had taught me to go for a run, instead of having a cookie when I was sad. It's a CONSTANT battle and I can't wait for the day when a run is always the 1st choice.

Lol! Just like a lot of you my guts often rebel on a long run! I've been spared during any race, but out on my own...that's a different story! I went out for a projected 10 miler one day and at mile 7 had to head for home. About 2 very long miles from home my guts said NO MORE and offloaded! That was a painfully…

I would just add the question of how much exercise are you getting? Building muscle will increase your BMI, and make you feel better!

Yep! I can totally relate! I started out running just for the cardio and I'm a total addict now! The runners high is VERY real and not something just marathoners get! Keep running - that 100 cal/mile is just a tiny part of it after awhile!! :smile:
