Very nice job! And guess what. Keep at it and you will go faster, further and it will be easier! A few months ago I felt exactly what you did. I had not run a mile since HS gym class 24+ years ago! Today I ran my 1st official 5k in 27:55. Actually crossing the finish line in a running event was a great feeling. I can't…

It's sort of funny. I work in a clean room so I am gowned up from head to toe and you learn to recognize people by their shape. Even from behind you know who people are, sometimes even easier then from the front. lol So a couple months ago after I had lost around 45lbs I went and worked on a shift that I don't work very…

Thanks everyone! It's nice to know other people can tell the difference. In April I never would have thought about running a 5k. I finished in 27:55. Not bad for my 1st one. What I tell my co-workers, since so many ask me now (after I tell them to log into MFP of course  ), is that I think the key thing…

I'm doing my first official 5k ever tomorrow! And I was never a runner. 5 months ago I could barely go 1/4 mile at 4.5mph. Tomorrow I'm going to shoot for under 30minutes. Don't know if I'll make that but I'm going to try. I think you will find it easy! Good luck and have fun!!!

Go Pack Go! Live in Viqueens land now but born and grew up in Milwaukee. Going to work and laughing at queens fans last year was almost as much fun was watching the Super Bowl. hahaha...

Every time my weight goes down!

BMR isn't maintenance for your activity level. It's the calories your body burns just keeping you alive. In other words if you were in bed for 24 hours straight just sleeping that's how many calories you would burn. Any activity on top of that burns more of course. With your activity and cardio you are burning a little…

I'm not really sure what my goal weight should be either. I'm trying to lose weight but I'm lifting weights so want to gain muscle actually. I'm keeping a closer eye on my body fat % now. If that's going down but my actual weight isn't so much then I'm ok with that. I still have about 15 lbs of fat I could lose as a…

I bought the app for my Andriod phone but then never really used it. I think I advanced faster than it would have had me going! My 1st official 5K event is next Saturday! :)

Maybe the blog writer needs to get a real heart rate monitor and not rely on what the machine shows! LOL My Polar shows me between 140-160 depending on how fast I'm going and the resistance level I choose. I'm not trying to go all out on the thing but staying within my fat burning heart rate zone.

HAHA! When I first started and got on the elliptical after 5 minutes my legs couldn't take anymore. Now it's what I do for 45-60minutes of cardio after my weights work out when I go to the gym since we have a treadmill at home. It does get easier!!!

After losing 52lb in 4 months I had been stuck for 4 weeks! I actually cut back my calories this week as I had increased them previously changing my MFP goal from losing 2lb per week to one since I have 15 to reach my goal. Seems I was just maintaining perhaps? So I cut back from around 2000 a day to 1500 this week. I've…

I use them for jogging. It's all I've been wearing for working out since I started at the end of March. I'll be doing my first 5k in two weeks and first 10k at the end of Aug wearing them. :) I am still trying to work out my technique since I believe landing on your heel is not the best with these on. I'm working on…

Running isn't my only exercise so I can't comment on that. But it does get a lot easier! When I started I thought I would die when I tried to go 1/4 mile @ 4.5mph. 4 months (and 52lbs) later I am going 3-4 miles at 5-6mph.

Used to be Mc Donald's. 3 double cheeseburger, 1 large fries and a Big Mac Snack Wrap (or maybe a Quarter Pounder). Or a whole 12 inch frozen pepperoni pizza (Jack's rising crust was my favorite) Now my favorite spurge is still a burger and fries but I've only had that a few times since I started at the end of March and I…

I like the 1gram per 1lb of lean body mass idea!

I've had it my whole life too. Since I've started working out the last 3 months it has gotten much worse then it has been for a long time, especially around my chest and back. It's not even just a small band where my HRM strap goes but sort of all over. But also patches on my arms and legs. It is not fun that is for sure!

There is a proverb that is about planting a tree but I like to use it a slightly different way. The best time to start exercising and eating right was ten years ago. The second best time is today. I'm not sure if it's harder because I never started trying until the end of March. All I know is after only about 4 months I'm…

Good for you! That's how it's done. Just keep at it. Try and do a little more each time! When I started 3 1/2 months ago I thought I was dying when I "jogged" a 1/4 mile at 4.5mph. Now I'm doing 4 miles routinely at 5-6mph and working in 8-9mph 1minute interval training. Even jogged 10k on the treadmill just to see if I…

NSV stands for going from size 17 to 13 shorts!!!! Congratulations!

I was able to get through my last one by doing 60-75 minutes of cardio instead of 45 and drinking lots and lots of green tea.

Thanks for the replies. I am set at 2lbs per week. I guess I just think it is interesting that there is a "hard" limit of 1200 that is the number I see mentioned for ladies. But no such limit at 1500 for men.

My wife does this all the time. So many that it makes me roll my eyes sometimes. She takes them out of the peel.

I have a fitbit. I wear it all the time. I think it is a good complement to a heart monitor. I use my polar when I'm exercising to be as accurate (as possible) with my exercise calories. It is small and unobtrusive which I like. Though as I read on one review and I think to myself when ever I remove it, "you will lose this…

Congratulations! It's a good milestone to hit. I just broke through last week. I hadn't been in the 100's for over a decade. Hard work pays off!
-
I have had a couple times where my Polar HRM has been high but the heart rate was reading higher then I knew it really was so it showed higher calories. I think I didn't have the chest strap wet enough or maybe the positioning was off and that caused some false readings.
-
I've been stuck a few lbs over 200 for awhile. Seemed like my body didn't want to cross that threshold. lol I started using an elliptical/cross-trainer instead of just the treadmill to mix things up. I've also been drinking a lot of green tea since I keep reading good things about it and weight loss. Today I weighed in at…

I have a Polar but only wear it when exercising. Don't really wear any watch very often though, just look at my phone.

Make sure to track everything you eat so you really know your calories consumed each day.

I purposely didn't say anything to anyone at work that I was working to lose weight because I was curious when it would get commented on just on its own. It was about 2 months after I started and exactly at 30lbs lost when the first person came and asked me if I had been doing something. Shortly after that same day a few…
