No food is "Good" or "Bad". All things in moderation. I love cheese, but I have to make sure I don't eat too much. It's a little high on the calorie side.

Really? We needed an experiment to test this? I'll be he felt bloated too, but I don't really need to test that theory either. I saw Supersize Me. It was flat out silly. It did make the guy some cash though which I'm sure was the real point anyway.

Great run yesterday. 12/3/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. 12/4/2014 - 4.12 Miles - Cumulative 7.45 Miles GOAL: 50 Miles

I have some knee issues too. Rest seems to be the only real help, but that doesn't get me to my fitness goals. I took two months off from running recently, but now I'm back in the game. I avoid heavy strength exercises that affect my knees, but I'm back up to aboutt 12+ miles per week. I wear a knee strap on my right knee…

Now that is very interesting. So...with this in mind I'm extrapolating that you simply have more room for muscle building if you focus on lifting and such because there is naturally more of that type of muscle (fast twitch) to start with, and you can demand more of it since you can increase weights as much as the muscles…

Hey hey! I'm not looking for a fight, only understanding. I'm sure very serious people like yourself focus on their entire body, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that for most people, the legs are the bottom of the hierarchy when it comes to what is most important to them. I think this is especially true for guys. I don't…

I should mention that although I do love to run and it is my preferred exercise, I also do 30 minutes of strength training at the gym 3 days a week. I really want the best of both worlds. I'm just seeking understanding in what is obviously a sometimes contentious subject.

This was helpful too. I think what you're saying is that running strengthens leg muscles, but doens't really do anything for the muscles that aren't really used much in running. That makes sense to me, but wouldn't the same apply to strength training? Calves and quads come immediately to mind. I'm guessing that legs kind…

This is the most informative and thought out answer I've see so far. I bolded part of it because that is the part that I've always had a problem with. Why on earth would the body burn muscle instead of fat since fat's purpose is to store energy for use when we don't have fuel. The bold text sort of answers that, but the…

No. I never let someone with a bad hair cut my hair. Same thing.

I wish I had more advice, but I don't speak "stone". It confuses me. But I think maybe you need to do a little time logging your food and exercise and get a good handle on how things might have changed that you didn't even notice.

Let me rephrase that a little to put it in perspective, "Wow, I lost 1.6 lbs! I'm moving in the right direction. All I need to do to reach my goal is stay on track." I say good job to you. As a recent post said, weight loss is not linear. Keep it up and you win. The only way to not succeed is to quit.

Nothing to worry about. Just a good week. Probably a water weight thing. It will likely balance out over time.

For me, life wouldn't be worth living in a world without peanut butter. I can't even imagine being on your side of the fence on this one.

It's too hot. It's too cold. I'm too tired. My leg (or insert whatever here) hurts. I just ate. blah blah..... We all feel all those at some point, but some of us do it anyway. I always liked Nike's old ad campaign that said, "just do it."

And so it begins... 12/3/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. GOAL: 50 Miles

I'm in for 50 running miles. This is my first MFP challenge. I'm training for a fall 13.1, so this fits right in.
-
I plan to stay the course and enjoy the Holiday season. Continued training for the half-marathon this spring is my highest priority.

I agree. Also, perhaps you need to take a close look at how you are measuring and recording your intake. Something is not really adding up here. EDIT: I just looked at your numbers again. From what you report, you are eating well above you stated calorie goal. Perhaps that could be the problem.

I flippin' love food! I also use it for fuel. As long as I use my brain when eating, I can and do have the best of both worlds.
-
I"m sure others have already said this, but you'll never lose weight by working out and "clean eating" alone. Both are great, but the only way to lose weight is to eat less calories than you burn. Based on what you've said, I'd wager you are eating a lot more than you think. Someone wise once said, "you get fit in the gym,…

That is wonderful! I'll never forget my first 5K. We can do the impossible if we give it our all. Great job.

I have two points: 1) People will always tell your you're getting too skinny at some point in your weight loss journey. As long as you're "normal" in the charts I wouldn't worry about opinions of others. 2) You can maintain weight the same way you lost it. Count calories. Eat at maintenance and you won't gain/lose weight.…

Everyone is different. Find whatever motivation works for you. Shame doesn't work for me. My motivation is all about feeling physically good and about living longer and better for my family.

Some answers are hard. This one isn't. You have plenty of time; you are simply choosing the hobby that keeps you sitting in a chair over a hobby that gets you up and moving. If you truly were exhausted, you couldn't stay awake to play poker on the computer. Life is all about choices. Lying to yourself is not going to help…
-
I'll third that notion.
-
I think it's a matter of people trying to justify their own bad choices. When they see you making good choices, it forces them to look at themselves. The easiest passage to making themselves feel better is to persuade you to skip back over to their side of the equation. I don't think anyone does this on purpose; it's just…

I wear Brooks Defyance shoes for running. Like yours, mine were chosen based on my gait and comfort of fit. It is unbelievable to me how much they help my running comfort. They too are not a fashion choice I would make, but running isn't about fashion... Mostly anyway...haha. .

Are slugs a good source of protein? Just sayin'....

The general rule of thumb is that anything under 1200 is not conducive to healthy weight loss. However, that number can be significantly different depending on each individual.
