  • I'll be doing 3.33 miles Thanksgiving morning. I plan to get up early before anyone else so I can work it in. I'm not really doing it to offset the food. It's just where it falls in place on my half-marathon training schedule. I do, however, plan to eat my weight in Thanksgiving deliciousness. And I'll log every yummy bite.
  • Park a mile away and jog/run to the gym. Bonus exercise!
  • I don't think I could run without podcasts. I personally really like "stuff you should know" (stuffyoushouldknow.com/), "Radiolab" (radiolab.org/), "this American Life" (thisamericanlife.org/), and "the Moth" (themoth.org/). And then there is always political stuff if you want to really get your blood pumping.
  • I had a 10 day break in October when I was on vacation. When I got home, I went straight back to it. I did have a little more soreness than normal after that first day back, but otherwise, it wasn't a problem.
  • Eggs were bad and then they were good and then they were bad....etc etc etc. I've learned to not put faith in any single study. We all know what's good for us intuitively. We don't need a study to understand the simple concept of moderation in all things.
  • You might try blue tooth ear buds. With that you could simply set your phone on the floor (or in the cup holder) while lifting.
  • Every Thursday at around 4:30 or 5:00pm. Never miss a weigh in. Never weigh in between. This gives me a weekly goal to work toward.
  • I don't think it's idealistic at all. Goals are achieved through determination and commitment in spite of whatever life throws at you.
  • This for sure. My main motivation for losing weight is I want to run a half-marathon in the Spring. If I didn't have that clearly defined goal ahead of me, I might not have lost the 35lbs I've lost so far. And although I hate lifting, it supports the ultimate goal of running that 3.1 mile course. So I lift, and I keep…
  • I ate a cookie at Subway today along with my turkey sandwich on wheat. It was yummy. I too made a deal with myself that I won't deprive myself or ANYTHING. It is indeed a marathon.
  • For me, it's all about the workout. I found that I can push myself to run or go to the gym even when I don't feel like it. I treat it like an appointment that must be kept; almost like a medical need. It is literally a daily commitment that I won't break barring extraordinary circumstances. Once that commitment is in…
  • Ahhh...The fiber. I see. Since fiber isn't a big concern for me, I hadn't even noticed. Taste, of course, is subjective.
  • I've done 35 in three months without starving myself, so I think it can be done. You just have to be very careful and diligent. And lots of exercise helps too as a means of preserving muscle. EDIT: I just counted and I was wrong. It was closer to four months.
  • To me, Pure Protein bars taste great straight out of the box at significantly less cost. What is it about Quest bars that sets them apart?
  • This is why. In order to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you take in. Even whey you are being careful, eating out can easily cost you 1500 calories. Those rolls at the steakhouse are a couple hundred each before you even have your meal. You can be successful if you start counting and logging. Exercise…
  • Visited Albuquerque once when we took a 3 week cross country road trip. It was my favorite stop along the way. Very friendly. Of course, you can't get a good feel for anywhere in just two days....
  • For me, I started noticing big changes after about 20 pounds. No one else noticed (or said anything) until around 25 pounds. I was a little disheartened when no one said anything. I even posted here asking a similar question to yours (community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1450406/17lbs-and-no-one-notices#latest. But now…
  • Great saying I read on here the other day. "You get fit in the gym, you lose weight in the kitchen". In this case, the gym is zumba. Is your goal weight loss or fitness or both. In three months of zumba, you should be feeling better physically in terms of cardio fitness. You also should be feeling some toning of your…
  • I see 50 up ahead as well. I'm almost done with the weight loss part of my fitness journey, but still have struggles. My weakness is sweets. Now, I'm really focusing on the fitness/exercise side of the coin. That part is proving to be surprisingly fun and satisfying so far. Oh....and I post/login fairly frequently. Feel…
  • It was not "already answered". Your answer (although correct) was not complete enough to be useful unless you already knew it before asking. Other posts have more thoroughly answered the OP in the wake of your quick short response.
  • Long Answer: My breakfast used to consist of a 3 Little Debbie snack cakes and a pint of milk that I bought at a convenience store, then I'd get to work and crack open a 20 oz Pepsi. Clerks and customers often commented that I was buying the "breakfast of champions". Once I made the decision to get healthy, I switched to…
  • You might try protein bars too. Pure Protein bars taste great and depending on which flavor you buy, they can have as much as 21 grams of protein at only 180 to 200 calories. They are roughly a dollar each if you buy them 6 or 12 to a box. Some people like Quest bars too, but they are quite a bit more expensive and to me,…
  • Don't diet at all. Change your life. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to permanently change how you think about food. Make the change today and you can still have great holiday treats. Just keep in mind that it is always a long term proposition. A day here or a big meal there won't hurt you if you stay slow…
  • I intend to remain unattractive as I lose the weight. That way I won't have to worry about it. Seriously, in my marriage (which is strong), that isn't even a thought. I'm losing my weight and getting fit specifically so I can be around for many many years to enjoy my family. Having kids after 40 kind of changes your…
  • Unfortunately, the good advice in this post is contaminated by unfounded "natural" food claims and pseudo-science faddish thinking.
  • I have a protein bar for breakfast ever day. Today it was a crunchy chocolate Pure Protein bar. Yummy. I like a larger dinner, so I go really light in the morning.
  • I saw that one coming.
  • No danger there. We mostly just kid each other about it.
  • Words mean things. "Often" does not mean "most of the time" or "always". It means "frequently". The opposite of "often" is "seldom". In each of the threads you mention, I'd bet someone says timing matters. Also, there are plenty of offhand remarks made by answerers of other threads that mention they "don't like to eat…
