80. (or whatever number we're up to) You have used the term "special snowflake" in general conversation in real life. 79. You can't resist completing your day's diary just to see what MFP thinks you'd weigh in 5 weeks' time if every day were like this, even though you know it's not an accurate prediction. The days you blow…

I'm in Stockport, you or anyone else can feel free to add :)

Agreed. It's one of my pet peeves (not just in the gym but anywhere) when people play their stuff out loud for everyone to hear. I personally don't like working out or walking around with earbuds in (I know I'm in a minority on that but still...) so whoever was playing their stuff out loud would be inflicting it on me…

It's only happened to me when I've tried to use the recipe builder on the app. Now I ignore the app and only input recipes using the old recipe builder on the pc version.

It is legal (even if not exactly moral or customer-friendly), but it's unusual in the UK for this type of set-up to be used on a company that sells physical goods rather than something like a dating site. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/recurring-payments

Explanation of body water that I was given with my results from a recent a health screening check: "Body water % relates to your body's hydration levels. Body fat does not store water as well as muscle. Therefore people with lower levels of body fat will have higher levels of body water. Our results show that body water %…

In my immediate office I work with four guys. The amount of misinformed rubbish I hear on a daily basis about protein supplements, pre-workout supplements, what's the best exercise for what body part and what's the best way to lose weight far far outweighs what I hear from an office full of women (and most of the women on…

Not really - your muscles generally ache more when you've done a completely new movement that your body isn't used to, and if you've been doing body pump you'll be used to the movement of squats and lunges which most of your circuit consisted of. For example - I rarely get DOMS from things like chest and shoulder pressing…

As other have said, I don't think anyone can provide the motivation for you. a) something just has to click in you, you can't get motivation externally b) going to the gym isn't in of itself the answer - I never stopped exercising throughout my gradual weight gain. It just became more sporadic and the weight went on…

You could re-frame the question - say to the staff that you've been doing the same thing for the past 8 weeks and now you want to shake things up and change your routine a bit, so could they show you some new things? (I assume that you've been using the machines and doing the exercises that you ARE comfortable with for the…

Ha ha I see where you're coming from OP - I don't consider myself picky because I don't have major allergies or cut out major food groups etc, but I do have a few quirks: I have a weird intolerance to uncured pork. I can eat bacon, ham and sausage with no problem, but not things like pork chops or roast pork loin - I can't…

I rate Primark's workout clothes. I'd been eyeing up a pair of grey and black kind of tiger-print Adidas capris but didn't want to pay £28, and I got an alomst identical copy in Primark for £7 that fit really well. For trainers, sportsshoes.com always has good discounts.

This. I'm pretty sure the stuff about slower pace being "fat burning mode" is outdated.

gpstreet your "fine start" reminds me of my first day too ;) My first day of logging started well with a gym visit, I logged my breakfast and later got a call from a good friend inviting me out to lunch. There was no way I wasn't going because I hadn't seen this friend for a few months since she'd moved away, and it was…

Totally agree with you OP. I think a lot of people associate calorie counting with obsessive behaviour and going round with a little calorie counting book like our mums did in the 1970s! I keep quiet about MFP to most people mainly because I don't see myself as being on a diet, I prefer to think of it as knowing what my…

@ana3067 - slightly OT but yes, Wetherspoons is a pub/restaurant chain in the UK whose full nutritional info is listed on their website.

There's a doc on BBC2 called Eat to Live Forever tonight, with Giles Coren looking at paleo, fruitarian diets and fasting/calorie restriction. Might be worth a watch to see if anything new is mentioned (that's if I can sit through an hour of Giles Coren).

The only reason I could think of for it being "sad" is if you'd refused to go on a planned birthday day out or something in order to exercise instead because you were scared to miss a workout. Otherwise, it's your birthday, do what makes you happy!

English here and a relative newcomer to the stuff. Prefer almond butter. Healthy living bloggers hypnotised me into liking the stuff.

I've been logging and weighing a year and everything gets weighed, but I'm the same with peanut butter, it's my superpower! (sadly I now eke it out by the teaspoon, as overdoing the tablespoons of nut butter as snacks are one of the reasons I ended up needing MFP in the first place). Randomly, I'm usually within 5g of…

Babybels Nakd bars (much cheaper to buy boxes in bulk from their website than buy them in the supermarket by the way) Fridge Raiders fill a little tupperware pot with plain Greek yoghurt, fromage frais or quark and add berries, nuts and/or powdered flaxseed mixes (you can get these in Aldi now quite cheap). Boiled eggs or…

Unfortunately I've discovered the bar code scanner entries are not always correct for sodium either. I seem to spend a lot of time on MFP amending entries for sodium. Salt does not equal sodium! But many people will enter e.g 0.8g of salt as 800mg sodium, which is not correct. A while ago I suggested MFP adds 'salt' box as…

Agree that posture is important in pictures - female 'befores' are always done face on to the camera with a miserable slouchy posture, whereas the 'afters' are usually posed slightly side on with hand on hip etc etc. I've spotted something similar in any weight loss TV show or advert where the person is being measured as…

Ha ha. Touch my food, feel my fork!

Could you neck a small snack such as a Nakd bar around 5pm just before leaving work/just as you leave?

Agree that the 2lb a week is the issue here, changing to 1lb a week and allowing yourself a few more calories will definitely make it more bearable. I started at 14 stone too and opted to go slowly at 0.5lb a week as was only looking to lose about 2 stone initially (I'm a few inches taller than you). I set MFP to sedentary…

I'm fine with standard planks but really struggle with any variations such as incorporating arm or leg lifts, the ones where you go down on your elbows then back up to your hands, or renegade rows.

I must be a weirdo as I hate running with music and quite like running on the treadmill. Outdoors I always feel a bit self-conscious due to beetroot face (doesn't bother me in the gym but out in the open I guess part of me still feels like the chunky kid finishing last in cross country at school). I do love the sense of…
