  • I've got the glass Salter analyser scales too (though I never turn on the BF analysis, just use them as normal scales). I only paid £15 for them when they were on offer in my local Morrisons. I've always found them to be accurate and more importantly, consistent. I think it helps that my bathroom floor is tiled, which also…
  • I think the jeggings in the pic might just be a touch too long for you which is what's causing the bunching round the knees and ankles (also to me they look more like skinny jeans as the fabric seems quite thick). Good old M&S jeggings are the best fit for me personally and they come in short, regular and long lengths,…
  • Me too. I'm 5'10 so tall anyway but longer in the torso and only 33.5" inside leg. Dresses are so difficult as even the tall ranges in shops tend to just add the extra length to the legs and don't think about body proportions. /rant. Anyway, back to the OP - I would just say that being taller makes it harder to estimate…
  • Some people have larger ribcages than others. Mine is large too so I can lose some weight and have ribs showing but still have a lower belly pooch. Not weird, just different body types.
  • Yep. I usually go ahead and add them again anyway as chances are the sodium would be wrong or the previous entry might not have had all the macros included - at least then I know it's right and it's in my frequent list to use again. OP, if you're making these SW dishes from scratch you're better off using the recipe…
  • OMG, this is the bane of my life when looking up new foods! I'm another serial correcter of salt into sodium. I did once post a question in the MFP help section asking for this very thing but it was ignored.
  • I don't know what you've set your goal as, but if you set up MFP to lose 2lbs a week and it gave you a target of 1200, this is too aggressive if you only want to lose 7lbs (apologies if this isn't the case). If you change your goal to 0.5lb a week it will give you more calories to play with - you need all the energy you…
  • I'm sure I've read in the past that it's also to get people eating a larger variety of nutrients and not to rely on fruit over veg (which might be tempting for some), so for instance 5 apples a day wouldn't count as your 5 servings. It's a good thing to aim for, but I agree I wouldn't get too hung up on the details.
  • My trainer wanted to do this approach with me - 9 days of strict LCHF and a carb refeed on the 10th day. I refused lol :) His advice for the carb day was things like pizza and doughnuts, anything goes really. Your food for today sounds yum actually and still looks really healthy.
  • As most people above have commented, if you approach it in the right way (ie once a day only, not hopping on and off several times a day) it takes the emotion out of it and you get used to the fluctuations caused by water/sodium etc. It also takes away the whole "wah, I've been good all week so why haven't I lost" slimming…
  • Glad to see I'm not the only contrary person :) I hate mushroom soup or creamy mushroom sauces yet I love mushrooms in any other form (even raw). Maybe it's the cream that doesn't go with the mushrooms? Banana flavoured desserts, yet I like bananas - banana muffins/banana bread isn't too bad but you can put banoffee pie,…
  • Usually 20kg though in my gym there are also some chrome ones that are apparently 15kg
  • I beg to differ on dress sizes as it takes more if you're taller and can also depend on your frame. I'm 5'10 and have lost about 25lbs and pretty much am still in the same clothes as when I started (also at 14 stone/196lbs), they just fit better now. I also have such broad shoulders and big rib cage that I'm not convinced…
  • Love your avatar! I'm near Manchester and we're the same age
  • It's just another VLCD meal replacement thing. I know a few people who have done this and I don't get the hype about "having more energy" that they all say, but then again that could be just the high you get from being on a strict diet and seeing water weight come off quickly in the beginning, rather than any magical…
  • I'm in a similar position in that my new trainer wants me to do low carb high fat for fat loss - 65% fat, 25% protein and 5% carbs with a carb binge every 10th day to refeed. I was prepared for him to want me to lower carbs but I'd have been happy if he'd said 20% carbs! I haven't been sticking to his diet 100% but have…
  • Thanks, this is what I've always thought. I've never felt that carbs bloat me or cause me a problem so was apprehensive about the diet plan, but I didn't want to come across as difficult or stubborn. The calorie level he's suggested seems about right for me to keep a small deficit and protein fits with what you've said. I…
  • Until the congealed blood grows out and the new nail grows in! About 6-9 months for a big toe nail to completely renew itself :( As a female - thank god for nail varnish !
  • If you're going to drink lager make it a good chemical free Czech or German pilsner, for taste's sake! Mmm Budvar...
  • Stockport *waves*
  • Near Manchester, anyone feel free to add :)
  • As someone above said, just remember that you don't have to pile your plate high with everything at once because it will be there on the next mealtime! Personally I find I eat quite healthy on AI holidays as there's something about buffets that overwhelm me and I end up taking salads, veg and seafood because it's easy (and…
  • Multi Level Marketing - pyramid selling schemes where people are selling things like Herbalife, Clean 9 and other expensive shakes and pills.
  • Agreed. I also converted to weighing daily last year and I found it a good way to get a better idea of what's likely to be water weight, fluctuations due to your monthly cycle, high sodium food etc etc. I found it takes away the fear of the scale and stops the feeling of "waah, I've been been good all week why haven't I…
  • Genius! Why didn't I think of that? *slaps forehead* :)
  • Not fiction but The Amazing Adventures of Diet Girl is a good read - it's a weight loss diary but she's a good writer.
  • Another from near Manchester here
  • Another 5'10 person here and I agree that generally it takes longer to show on someone with a relatively larger frame. I'm almost at goal after losing about 25lbs and am still wearing many of the same clothes as when I started - they just fit better! And very few people have noticed I've lost weight (which is kind of how…
  • How rude that you've done so well and people are advising how to lose more! Agree with all of the above, just ignore the "noise" and stick with what works for you.
  • I never weighed myself for years so I didn't know what my goal weight should be when I joined MFP, as I had no idea of what I weighed when I was at my ideal size. But I knew I wanted to be able to fit comfortably back into a favourite pair of jeans. They were only one size down (in fact I was still wearing the same size in…
