Near Manchester here, feel free to add (and anyone else too)

Yep - in my case it's Clean 9. Because aloe vera juice has magic unicorn fairy dust properties that make you lose weight (rather than the fact you're consuming nothing but the juice, some random supplements and the odd protein shake for 9 days). The best facebook post yet I've seen advertising it says something like "it's…

This - you seem to have found maintenance before. So all you really needed to do to lose a bit was to eat back half of your exercise calories or reduce your overall target by 100-200 cals a day, rather than do a drastic crash diet and mad exercise. That said, I lost half a stone in a week back in August due to being ill…

To weigh more accurately it's best to weigh everything in grammes - look for the entries that in the database that give you the option of 100g or 1g and avoid the entries that are in cups. (I don't sweat too much about things like weighing a tortilla down to the last gramme, but I avoid cup measurements like the plague as…

I can relate to what you're saying, as I'm 5'10 and have pretty much always worn UK size 14/US 10 clothes. Was nudging up more often into UK16/US12 by the time I started on MFP, when I weighed 196/14 stone, now in the 170-173 range, ideally hoping to lose 7-10 more "fluff" but not going to sweat it too much. My build is…

I sympathise because I had the same thing back in August and I know just how ill I felt. I could barely get out of bed for 5 days and to be completely honest it took me nearly 3 weeks afterwards before I felt like I was back to my usual self with energy for workouts. That probably isn't what you want to hear, but you need…

^ This type of thing is what I have if we go to our local kebab shop. I have chicken shish on chapatti rather than naan bread, loads of salad, yoghurt/mint raita and a little chilli sauce. I don't consider that an unhealthy meal. I don't have donner meat or "garlic sauce" ie garlic mayo - that's a good kebab ruined!

Not quite sure I agree 100% with this as before I was using an older digital but non-glass scale at my other half's house and it was laughable how much it varied - I could step on and off it 3 or 4 times and it would give me a different reading each time without moving it to a different spot on the floor! I think that was…

I am a fan of the Salter glass body fat analyser scale (although I don't bother with the analyser bit, just use it as a normal scale). It looks nice and most importantly it seems really consistent. You can often find it on offer for £15 in Morrisons or Argos when its normal price is £25-30.

I've lost around 25 lbs and haven't really gone down a size. I'm tall too which makes a difference compared to someone more petite, plus the clothes fit me better now whereas before there was probably an element of denial going on...

+1. I get that you're in a rural area but online shouldn't be a problem. Also - could you work out in the morning? I notice from your "before" and "after" timetables that you still wake up early but now don't start work till much later in the morning.

I was similar in that I had an old pair of work trousers that I'd previously nearly given to charity because they were too big, but I put them on one day when I was getting a bit low on clean workwear and they were tight... However I still didn't use this as a turning point to do much about it, I just started wearing more…

I've noticed but it doesn't worry me too much - as others have already said, some people just want to be evangelical about whatever they like best. It irritates me more when it's said in adverts/infomercials pushing the next quick fad diet fix e.g. "Sick of paying for expensive gym membership? Not seeing the results you…

Pure Gym by any chance? That's where I go, though I now pay £18 a month because they only tend to do the really low price of £10-£12 a month for your first year's membership for a limited period after a new branch opens, then it's typically £16-18 a month afterwards. Still a good price IMO.

I never owned scales or weighed myself, preferring to go by fit of clothes - I never wanted to go down that rabbit hole of letting the scale dictate my mood. As long as I didn't go above a UK size 14 I was satisfied. When the weight started to creep on slowly (after a job change meant I exercised than I had always done),…

I used to love LM classes and typically at my old gym I would do 2 or 3 Body Pump a week and 1 or 2 Body Combat, plus 1 session of Balance when they offered it and yoga when when they stopped. Towards the end of my membership there they started offering Attack but I wasn't keen. I missed both Pump and Combat when I joined…

Some people might, but they're probably very short and petite. Don't be suckered in by the claims on magazines like Closer etc where guarantee that their latest diet will see you lose 5lbs in a week and drop a dress size, or some reality star/soap star says they've lost half a stone and 2 dress sizes (lighting, clever…

14 lbs in a stone so 10 stone = 140lbs

I think it's generally accepted here that the weights and calorie info on packaged foods can be a bit off so a lot of people recommend weighing everything. However... I also recently saw an experiment as part of a BBC documentary where scientists accurately weighed and calorie counted a wide sample of pre-packaged foods…

I don't let myself think of being "on a diet". For me it's not necessarily much of a lifestyle change either because I was eating pretty healthily before joining MFP - I was just eating a bit too much of it sometimes and not being mindful of the calories in things like alcohol and restaurant meals. I find it more helpful…

I'm a recent convert to this approach (about 7 weeks now) and I think it really does work in stopping the whole "wahhhhh I've been good all week why does the scale hate me" thing. I find it calming. Also, weighing at home means you get to do it naked and first thing in the morning therefore more realistic than doing it at…

Rabbit is advising you to jump on the scale everyday (only once a day mind, not every time you pass the bathroom ;) ), as way to get to understand the fluctuations. There are websites/apps like Trendweight.com and happy Scale that you then record this daily weight on and they will produce a graph showing the overall trend…

About 6 weeks ago I converted from weighing only once a month to daily weighing, following suggestions from a recent thread (thanks @rabbitjb ). I signed up to fitbit and trendweight.com accounts, and even though I don't have a fitbit gizmo I enter my weight on the fitbit site each morning, and this automatically feeds…

Feel free to add - I'm near Manchester, a bit older than you but we're similar height, start weight and goal weight. I've been here for a year and a bit but I'm taking it slowly and couldn't imagine life without wine and good beer!

I've seen it said that people should first focus on the total calories, and when they've got a handle on that then maybe start to think more carefully about macros - I'm sure that's in the famous Sexypants thread. Kind of aimed at newbies who are getting confused and stressed about low…

I'd never heard of it until now but having just consulted Dr Google all I have to say is that it makes the Military diet look like a solid nutritional plan. *facepalm*

They seem to use the same inflated figures as the MFP database - I use a HRM and the figures from my walks/runs are about 60% of what MapMy... gives.

True story: I once went back to body pump after several months off and went straight back in with weights only slightly less than what I had been doing before. During the class I felt ok and was quite pleased with myself for keeping up. Next day, not so pleased with myself - my thighs were still sore a WEEK later. Lesson…

Yes, I've been here over a year and only just worked out that you have to change it from stones and pounds to just pounds!

Try Nakd bars instead of 9 bars if you like fruit and nut bars to snack on - they are smaller so lower in calories but still fairly satisfying. Their protein flapjacks are similar in size and calories to 9 bars, but the small bars are 100 - 130 depending on the flavour.
