  • Congrats on your successes thus far! You look great! Your story resonates with me because it is MY story! I, too, lost 55 lbs. in the 1st year – most of it in the 1st 6-7 months. Since I reached my goal of 55 lbs., I’ve stalled…big time – even tho’ I want to lose another 25 lbs. by the end of this year. For me, it’s the…
  • First, being able to actually quantify my calories in/out - even with all the inherent room for errors – has really helped me stay on course and understand my eating patterns. Second, I have never wanted to “bore” my friends/family with my weight loss journey, but I have found that opening up and sharing a little with this…
  • I had about 55 lbs to lose as well and, like you, lost 2+ lbs a week for the first month - then it slowed down considerably. It took me about 12 months to lose it all (averaging ~1 lb/ week) on 1200-1400 cals. per day. There will be weeks of very little weight loss and you should expect that over the long haul. Don't set…
  • ^This. I vary my speed by walking to the beat of music. I made 3 playlists: warmup (slow), medium (~3.2mph) and fast (~3.5+). I can switch to fast for songs I like and I can stay motivated to just get to the end of the song! Good luck!
  • I love TJ's! My favorite staples (many of which have already been cited): their low fat cottage cheese, their garlic hummus, 50% less salt almonds AND (not everyone's cup of tea) their no salt added canned sardines in water. They're great on salads and full of protein!!
  • Roasted vegetables! A little olive oil, garlic powder, pepper and about 10-20 min. for brussels sprouts, green beans, asparagus, broccoli and you're set. Same thing with root veggies (potatoes, turnips, etc) but they take longer (40-60 min) Delicious tho'.....
  • It CAN be done! I had pizza on Sunday and still came in under 1250 cals. Here’s what I do…. Log 2 pieces of pizza right now and then plan the rest of your day around it. I had a big yummy green salad w/ dressing to go with my pizza for lunch and then had a light dinner of salmon and coleslaw WITH a glass of wine. Did I…

  • This is a great recipe for Black bean and tomato quinoa. I cut back on butter and oil, but it has lots of flavor with the lime, cilantro and other goodies... good luck! http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/black-bean-and-tomato-quinoa-238939

  • OK, so…. I know this isn’t a NSV, but it is a big achievement for me… As of today I have met the weight loss goal I set for myself almost a year ago… to lose 55 lbs. before I turn 56 - and today - I did it! I’m rather proud of myself for actually sticking to the process and successfully meeting my goal as I often lose…
  • This, this, this.... EXactly!! Guess what I'm having for dinner tonight? THIS!
  • LOL!! I’m not a coffee aficionado, but I also like mine with 4 tablespoons of creamer. I use fat free half and half (I know, it’s an oxymoron of epic proportions!) I don’t use sugar and it’s only about 44 cals. Can you just try and cut down on real sugar? As someone else here said you may be surprised how quickly you can…
  • Yep – I love my wine as well! As my diary will attest to, I manage a glass of chardonnay almost every day with dinner. (Although, I do appreciate a nice glass of red on occasion!) I’ve managed to lose about 53 lbs. in 11 months doing this so - it CAN be done - I just account for it in my daily calorie/macro goals. My…
  • I love Trader Joe’s low fat (1.5%) cottage cheese as I think it tastes delicious and waaaaay better than other low fat/nonfat varieties I’ve tried. A lot of folks like theirs with fruit, but I add mine to salads or I often just add chopped green onions, radishes and pepper - only ~95 cals. per ½ cup
  • I agree^^. I like cottage cheese, black beans and sardines - sometimes all together on a spinach salad! I have to watch my sodium with these, but you can find lower sodium versions (or just plan for it) Even on a 1200-1300 cal. plan I can usually meet my protein goals with all of these variations. Good luck!
  • I agree with these (OK - except maybe the whipped kleenex er... cauliflower) ;) I'd also add black beans. I like them with a lot of things (salads, cottage cheese, fish, chicken etc) and they really help me meet my protein goal. You can use them straight out of a can or I like the following recipe for mexican style black…
  • ^This.... and Dancing! Dance with a partner, dance alone, dance in the bathroom - pretty much anywhere, anytime and you can't help but smile - and trust me -you work up a sweat! Good luck!
  • I’m no expert, but I have a glass of wine regularly with dinner and it hasn’t kept me from losing weight (~50lbs in 11 months) I suspect that your 3 glasses in a week have little to do with your gain. I looked briefly at your diary and noticed a day or 2 with probable high sodium. (sushi, sausage, cheese) I know that when…
  • lol.... this just makes me laugh! On subject tho', I've lost about 50 lbs and although I see the difference in my body (face, stomach, etc) I don't feel the difference. Some days I just feel huge and only on a rare occasion I feel "light as a feather" Oh well, I think we all grow into our new shapes over time. I just have…
  • I’m sure you’ve heard of many of these ideas, but here are my tricks to meet my water goals:* I sip water continuously while I exercise/walk * I sip sparkling water with lime/lemon flavoring or just a slice of fresh throughout the day. (No sugar/salt content) * I drink various non-caffeinated herbal/fruit teas. I like…
  • This thread reminds me of my Grandma, who used to drink alfalfa green tea…gaaaack! It looked horrible and it smelled worse…lol… (loved my Grandma tho’) As a result I’ve always shied away from green teas; although there are some recommendations here I may have to try! My current “go to” tea (after my coffee) is Celestial…
  • Well, I didn't make my goal either, but I'm 17 lbs. lighter than when I started so I'm pretty happy! Congrats to all of you - especially for sticking with it 'til the end! Good luck to you all - hope you meet your goals whatever they may be!! Happy 2015!
  • I'm down 1 lb, finally, after a Thanksgiving stall. At least I didn't gain anything. Cherirana - you have made fantastic progress....! (I'm a teeny bit jealous) ;) Congrats to you and good luck to all of us who are still hangin' in there!
  • lol... ^this...! and no, it doesn't matter.
  • Well, I love my TJ’s! I get some specific things there on a regular basis:* 50% Less Salt Dry Roasted Almonds (my favorite snack) * TJ’s Low fat Cottage cheese - 1.5% milkfat (tastes much better than the standard grocery brands, IMO) * TJ’s Hummus (also tastier than most) * TJ’s unsalted Sardines in spring water (the only…
  • ^^ Holy-shmoley!....THAt's a lot of weight after a holiday week... Fantastic job!
  • Looking forward to this... I have a couple of group challenges ending at Xmas, so I need another to keep me focused. This one sounds like fun! Thx!
  • Congrats to you, cheriana!! That's terrific! I don't know if I'll meet my goal but at least I'm still going in the right direction.... even if it IS a sloooo0w crawl!
  • Well, since the leaders seem to be MIA, I simply copied the October spreadsheet and updated it for Nov. Hope nobody minds.... but I appreciate the tracking mechanism and intend to see this through 'til the end... P.s. the numbers do NOT feed to the summary page (although they haven't for a while) and any calcs should be…
  • Now THAT makes sense to me!!! Great job btw!
