• Your story has clearly touched a lot of our hearts/nerves. I’m sorry your mother is so mean - and I agree with everyone here who says – do it for YOU! Weight loss IS more than just looking good, but there are a few small things you could try to pick up your spirits. I bet you really DO look better after dropping 30 lbs,…
• Speak of the devil...! I just got this recipe yesterday (Spiced Pork Tenderloin with Sautéed Apples) and it sounds DELICIOUS! (and I'm not even that big of a pork fan) I confess I haven't made it yet, but I plan to try it out on my sister and BiL next weekend. It got great reviews, has all of the nutrients listed, and it's…
• http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/ I like this website where you can determine the cals and nutrients of many foods whether raw or cooked. These are often already listed in the MFP database. I generally weigh my meat/veggies cooked when it’s feasible since the cals and nutrients definitely change after cooking (although not…
• Congrats on the running - I don't run, so anyone who moves faster that a quick walk gets kudos from me! But, frankly, my dear, I am MORE impressed with your ability to mow an acre of lawn with a PUSHMOWER! Now THAT's a workout (I wonder how many calories you get for that?) Great job!!!!
• To the OP – a great story – I bet it made you feel great. I bet it STILL makes you feel great even almost a month later! To @MyChocolate Diet - YOUR story was great too. I was on the edge of my seat, scrolling to the end, (oh, no!) and then it made me smile. Thanks for great breakfast entertainment!
• I think I'm gonna have to try this one! Thanks!
• I am certainly not an expert, so I agree with having your Dr./ Nutritionist weigh in here, but I recently got this advice from a RN caring for my 95 yr. old mother who constantly battles dehydration. Jello! It’s mostly water, right? So, it makes sense to me, anyway. Plus, you can get sugar free if you are concerned about…
• Don't have much to add here - I've already snorted coffee through my nose, laughing this a.m. Thanks!
• All of this^^! And, if you can't manage the legging look, go with boot-cut yoga pants - same comfort and they balance out wide hips! (that would be me! ) Same rules - same fun!!
• Me too! I’m 50% Portuguese, (can you tell from my hair?), ¼ Swiss (but I suspect German roots that after WW1 became “Swiss” to be less “dastardly”) and ¼ Finn! (can you tell by my hair?) :drinker:
• riallain & myepsen: THAT’s the ticket (imho) Whether it’s planned or not, we CAN offset our indulgences with a little extra exercise. And we deserve indulgences once in a while …. We can’t live like Spartans the rest of our lives!! Good job to you both! I'm impressed! I plan to do the same soon with a little peach cobbler…
• I'm going to have to branch out.... those sound delicious!
• THIS^! Otherwise said: Don't. Go. There. If she wants to discuss it, be a good friend, listen and offer support any way she would find helpful....
• This^^…. and This ^^ again! So many people here have said it in different ways…. I encourage you to try to moderate/eliminate the negative self-talk spiral that can get you down. You’ve accomplished so much – it may take a while for your mind to grow into the new you - or even believe you made it this far. Give yourself…
• I'll be checking in here over the next 20 weeks.... Great idea. I have a few HO HO NO recipes I may make, but I'm definitely always looking for any HO HO GO creations that will keep me interested. I'm not here because I don't like yummy food!!
• I second much of what people here are saying, I know it's true, but I feel very similar to you. (Glad to know I'm not alone!:flowerforyou: ) I too can manage my eating if I try, but it's exercising that is ALWAYS my challenge. My answer: WALKING. I walk fast, I walk slow, I walk to the tune of a Cajun two-step....…
• Yep - I agree with EVERYONE.... I just wish losing weight could be as delicious as putting it on.... I love the fooodz!
• Hi there - here are my stats: Name: lisele03 Start weight: 184 Goal weight: 164 BMI: 28.8
• This^^! As women, I think many of us tend to store fat around our hips... I agree tho', you look pretty great to me!! I understand your feeling - I've had big hips since I was about 10 ... (lol) but I:m learning to love the curves and celebrate the losses. Keep on!
• LOL This^^ I have nothing to add to this thread, but it made me chuckle this a.m. Thanks.
• Hello all! I’m Lise, I’m 55 and live in the Pac NW. I usually loathe even the mention of Christmas in AUGUST… but I think this may be a good challenge for me. I’m halfway to goal and IF I can keep my focus, I ought to be able to make it by then. So – I’m in for the long (20 week) haul. Looking forward to chatting! (Merry…
• I don't even like oatmeal much - and these sound pretty good! Thanks
• Fantastic job! I'm impressed at your dedication and your success. Plus, your ENTHUSIASM is awesome!! Great Job! :drinker:
in I made it! Comment by lisele03 July 2014
• LOL...THIS^^^ Of course it's inaccurate, but it can be motivating to just keep doing the right things. "Whatever works"
• Good laugh... Great story.... Fantastic accomplishment for you!!!
• Wow.... I'm impressed with your dedication and weight loss. I, too, am only walking and have successfully lost about 30 lbs in 4 months. (4-6x/week) I average 3-4 miles each time and also incorporate a "modest calorie deficit". It works!
• I am also sorry for your losses….that must be very hard. As for joining MFP , I second all of this^^! I find this site helpful, entertaining and sometimes ridiculous – but it has kept my focus, made me more accountable and I’m making better choices. As a result I’ve lost about 25 lbs since March. I too used to keep my…
•
One suit here, do have a couple decent sport coats, but that one suit is getting to big now and it was a plain black $80 dollar suit from Men's Warehouse that I bought in '06 for my wedding. ....... But, hey that suit has gotten me through that and a few job interviews and funerals.
This^^ IMO nothing is…
• Now that summer fruit is here.... A cup of cantaloupe with fresh blueberries added (yum) and a hard-boiled egg. Fast, easy, light enough before I workout....and tasty!!!
• ^This. Not to be a commercial for Celestial Seasonings..... but I really like their Raspberry Zinger herbal tea. It has a very slightly sweet flavor, it's sugar and caffeine free, it's strong enough (no wimpy tea for me) and, because it has hibiscus in it, it is good for your blood pressure!
