  • I just talked to the surgeon today and I have an appointment for Feb 2nd. Hopefully, surgery the week after. I am hosting a Mardi Gras dinner for my family on Fat Tuesday, so I need to be able to be on my feet by then. Due to complications from previous surgeries, he may have to open me up instead of laproscopic :(. I hate…
  • Thank you all. Not looking for medical advice, Rand, merely recipes. Already got the advice from the Doc this morning. As I said, I already have a diet low in fat anyway and the two things I mentioned are what triggered attacks precisely because I don't eat them regularly. I mentioned my old eating habits because both…
  • Hello all! I hope you don't mind if I 'join up' since I no longer have 100lbs to lose, I just did though. I joined MFP in March of this year with 170lbs to lose. I am currently down 108 as of this morning. I still have 62 more to go. If you had told me last year this time that I would be able to walk to my mailbox and back…
  • To the OP, the last plateau I had, I just switched something up. It's almost like it confused my metabolism into 'working' again. I am fastidious about logging and I completely understand how you get some of your fractions, lol so it may not be your logging. I found certain foods/exercises I really enjoyed and stuck with…
  • Aw, thank you! I am just a bit mad at myself for waiting so long to even seriously TRY to get healthy. Today is my 42nd birthday and I've spent the last decade convincing myself I was too old to even bother trying. What absolute garbage!
  • Read it as you wish, but I wrote it both in answer to the OP's question and also because I am a 42 year old female who has gained weight back before whenever I'd lose it due to , yes, 'dieting'. Your damned right I have the answer. So does everyone else. It is a matter of choice and I am choosing not to fall back into the…
  • I can understand how that could be frustrating. Before, when I would try to lose, my husband who is already smaller than me, would lose much more rapidly that me without even really trying. Now, he has a massively fast metabolism as he is on his feet all day and (at the time) I worked in a call center chained to my desk…
  • The question was "What are you doing during weight loss to prevent future relapse?" and I answered it completely and honestly. And yes, I am positive I will not gain it back because it's not a choice taken out of my hands. My future, and future choices, is mine and mine to own. I know me and know my own determination.…
  • I will never gain my weight back. Never. Want to know how I know? Because my weight loss is a habit, not a diet. Most people who gain it back (and then some) go on and off diets. They diet to get to the weight they want to be at then think they can maintain by going back to what they were doing before, gaining back weight,…
  • Meh. I suppose the article did what it was intended to do, spark a conversation. I've lost 100lbs just by 'counting calories' because I had absolutely NO IDEA how much I was eating before. I was only eating once a day and honestly, how many calories can there possibly be in 2 double cheeseburgers, large fries, 2 litre…
  • Yep, what the PP said. Check your metrics. As long as you are eating less calories than you're burning, you will lose weight even if you're only eating m&ms. Nutritionally, looks like you're on the right track, but outside of knowing what you're burning, there's no way to tell.
  • SWELLY BELLY! LOL, And here I thought I was the only one!
  • I don't feel as self conscious. I've lost 100lbs, still have 70 to go, but now I don't dread leaving the house and feeling all the pointing and staring (which, yes, I got quite a bit of). It was at the point I wouldn't even go to family functions because of all the judging and 'suggestions' of how others would live my life…
  • I think it depends. Whenever I try to cut out a food group, I fail miserably. I know it's different for everyone, but this logging all day, every day is the only thing that has helped me get control and eat what is required. Here's your TMI for the day: I gained weight very rapidly after I got married and thought it was…
  • I've lost 100lbs in a little over 8 months but the beginning weight came off pretty rapidly. I'm averaging 2lbs a week, now.
  • I'm 5'10" and at my heaviest (in March), I was 350+ lbs (not real sure, sometimes you just don't want to know). I lost a little bit before I started tracking at 345. I've lost 100lbs so far but still have 70 to go so these will be as close as I can get to Before and during, lol. I hate, HATE having my picture taken so I…
  • I had difficulty in being a bit under my calories in the beginning until I really learned the caloric value of what I was eating. Now I stay pretty close. Having said that, since your disorders have been medically diagnosed in the past, I would check with your doctor and tell him/her the results you are going for. It…
  • Thank you all so much! I have also been EXTREMELY lucky that my husband has been overwhelmingly supportive since day one. He's doing it right along with me! He's lost almost 70lbs just by helping me! :D. Without the person I live with on the same journey, this would have been so much harder!
  • I am nowhere near a body double (5'10 and built like a right tackle), but I did want to touch on your 'too late for me' worry. I'm 41 (I'll be 42 in a week) and in the last 8 months I have lost 100lbs using MFP and the support of people on here. I doubt it's ever too late. Congratulations on your decision and I wish you…
  • Good point, this is just really hard to assess using calculators and online apps as my body is very...German, lol. Here's a pic of me at 25yrs old around 170lbs...I think:
  • I plan on still doing what I do every day since I changed my lifestyle. For Thanksgiving, I am obsessed with stuffing so I am making mashed cauliflower and brussel sprouts for sides so I can still indulge in stuffing, turkey and gravy for the main event. For holiday parties, I will eat before we go and then try to find the…
  • I was 145 through most of HS, but I started school when I was 4 so high school age for me was 13-17. Definitely not a weight I could get back to. in college, I went up to 185 but again, I think it was a combination of the freshman 15 and the fact I was still growing. I look at pics when I was 185 and I'm pretty happy with…
  • Feel free to add me, too. I'm 5'10" and I've currently lost 98lbs. I haven't had any setbacks if only because the last 10 years were a setback and my determination is strong this time. I was around 350 (not sure exact weight I just know it was over 340 because I could no longer use the wii Fitboard) when I had a complete…
  • Everyone's a special snowflake...that's the problem. I used to get resentful of my friends who can eat everything and burp off 5 lbs. That's not me. My family is heavy. Genetics have a lot to do with it right along with a hysterectomy and multiple surgeries plus being 41 and spending over half my life overweight. While…
  • ^^ This! I started over 345lbs at 5'10" and 41 yrs old. You are already doing more cardio than most people realize just by breathing. Whenever you see others who are able to just dive right in and exercise, remember they aren't starting with a whole nother human being in weight strapped on them 24 hrs a day. Start by…
  • Happily married 41 yr old from Florida here :D. I am only 1/4 of the way through my weight loss journey but very lucky that my hubby joined me. Between the two of us, we have lost over 100 lbs. BTW, anyone can feel free to add me and my diary is open to friends.
  • So for good cholesterol (the kind we both lack) should I be looking at "good" fats like Avocado, nuts, etc? Willthtat effect the cholesterol our doctors are talking about? Sorry if it sounds ignorant, you can tell by how much I have to lose that I am truly clueless on this.
  • Thank you. I have always had low cholesterol but low "good cholesterol", too and my husband has high everything but the good stuff, lol. Wonder why the stat is even there :ohwell:
  • I accept all friend requests. There are some people who just need to lurk and view my diary and I'm OK with that. I am morbidly obese and usually we don't like having our picture taken so if they don't have a picture or haven't filled out their profile, I'm cool with that too. My picture is my goal weight rather than how i…
  • 41 here with a long way to go! Feel free to add me, any one of you! I am on here daily (usually a couple of times a day). BTW, my food diary is viewable as well.
