I make my own granola, and I love it! I use old-fashioned oats (although steel-cut are the best), wheat germ, chopped nuts and dried fruit. Send me a message if you'd like a recipe!

Hi, I tried to give as much information as possible in my OP. But I'll try again: 1) What type of stuff do you like doing? I like doing what I already do. I'm interested in trying new things, but they have to be within my current budget or membership. Strength & Cardio fitness classes, weight machines, free weights,…

Yes, of course, I've heard of it and it's becoming very popular as a meal replacement or supplement food product. I have three different friends that use it and sell it. The idea is to have a daily menu of 1 shake for breakfast, a snack, 1 shake for lunch, a snack, then a healthy dinner. The shakes are supposed to make you…

Love it!

oh and my urine is always a light yellow color, never pure/clear.

Hmmm...I have two smartwater bottles, one is 50 ounces, and the other is 33. I drink each one and refill it twice throughout the day, so I am probably drinking 160-250 ounces _per day_. This varies depending on whether I am at work or at home (we have culligan water at work, tap water at home), whether I'm doing a workout…

I am decidedly NOT freaking out about the calories, since I'm just at maintenance right now. As I'm cooking most of the dinner (Read: calorie burn!), I'm using low-fat and sugar substitutes for ingredients on all dishes, which will help; I will still only get a serving size's worth of each savory dish, and I will probably…

Well, I actually lost 30 pounds in 3 months (Apr-Jun '11), kept it off until January '12 (for 6 months), then I gained back the last 5 earlier this year when I wanted to take a break from MFP. But now I've vowed to make these lifestyle changes, not just "look better" changes, and I've been able to lose 7 (including that…

Hi tgcitw, No, I don't track all the calories I expend, and because my activity level varies from day to day, it's difficult to calculate how much I'm burning. Do you think I could be under-eating? I've noticed that most days I'm way under my calorie goal, then my hunger catches up with me and I go way over, kind of like…

My husband says some of those same things! Last year, I lost 25 pounds using MFP and taking my kids on long walks in the double stroller, and doing any random workout videos I could get my hands on. This year, my company started a wellness program and pays for a group fitness class at a local Fitness Together studio. I've…

I wonder if the reason the author still has the "gut fat hanging over" his belt is due to starvation-mode eating rather than only vigorous exercising?
-
I agree that the title for this article is misleading. it should read "How vigorous exercise can hinder weight loss". It is strange though, i dont feel hungry when i do a good workout. i certainly dont overeat or binge on workout days. In fact, i usually dont eat all of my exercise calories back, but i DO eat more on days…

I bought myself two new outfits in a smaller size when i lost 15 and my regular clothes started to feel loose. I would like to reward myself with a heart rate monitor watch in another 5 pounds and then a top notch gym membership and new wardrobe when i hit goal weight. Right now, i'm trying to focus on keeping up with…

104 pounds is an AMZAZING achievement; and you should be convinced you look BEAUTIFUL in your new body by now!! a couple questions...why is your face on your before picture blacked out and why does your ticker only say 61+ lbs lost?
-
Thanks for posting this topic, McKayMachina! I have been wondering the exact same thing and am so glad someone posted so i didn't have to! I will make a bold statement and say MFP's calculations are just too calorie conservative. Using the formula that LYNNPETTY93 posted, my BMR is 112.15 calories higher than what MFP has…

Okay, as long as this is normal, then i can stay happy. But losing 24 pounds would make me super happy, since i only wanted to lose 30 to begin with!
-
i'm 5'6" ... when you said "short" were you referring to height?
-
haha, yes! i'm going to edit...

I know how you feel. I don't own a scale at home but there are two scales at my job and they say i have diffferent weights. I would add 7 pounds to your original weight, because no matter what the poundage actually is now, you've still lost the same amount of weight (25 pounds is AMAZING! Fantastic job!). At least now you…

Since starting with MFP a couple weeks ago I have mostly cut out added sugars (i did have a half-ice cream sandwich last night, but i budgeted to have that, and it's the first time in a looong time i have eaten something that junky. After i finished it, i realized i didnt need to eat it, and i wont be eating one again for…

I am soliciting advice because i want to make sure i am maximizing my calories; i am really trying to prevent Empty Calorie Eating. Yes, it seems I often go over on sugar, but this seems to happen even on days when I have nothing sugary (like yesterday) all day. I am at a loss to what to do; I have in the last couple days…

It's a Saturday morning, so it's "French Toast and Scrambled Eggs" day for my son and me. I keep portions down to serving sizes, but it is still a lot of calories. Most of the people who replied cited breakfasts of 100-300 calories. I always eat 300-400 calories for breakfast, and i will be starving if i dont (and much…

I've been drinking a ton of water every day this week too! I had one swallow of o.j. last night, and i've had a couple of Fuze slenderize juices (they are free at my job), but other than that, just water, water, and more water. I definitely agree that chocolate is my downfall. As I said, I think my strategy is to stay full…

Thanks Joann! Yesterday I ran on the treadmill at work for a mile, and last night my 2-year-old and I danced to kiddie music videos for 30 minutes. I'm doing what i can to fit it in here and there. I'm really trying to stay committed but at the end of the day i feel it all comes down to my own will power, and by setting…
