  • As someone who has continuously eaten healthy and exercised moderately for the past 6 years, and watched my weight go up and down in spite of doctor-approved/healthy habits, I have learned to look at my overall wellness. At my heaviest, my cholesterol, blood-sugar, blood pressure, resting heart rate, etc, were still…
  • ^^ I second this. If the other suggestions given don't work, I highly recommend checking in with a physician - one who will listen and take some time to evaluate whether hormones, medications or other health concerns play a role. I've lost 55 lbs since November 2013 WITHOUT CHANGING ANY HABITS - it was a matter of…
  • What about an easy catch-phrase to reply to those who try to "convince" you to eat certain things ... "Oh, I wish I could enjoy___ with you, but I'm working really hard to stick to certain foods/ improve my health/ feel better" (obviously, use your own words that pertain to your situation).
  • Gosh, if THAT's mean, I'm wretched!! My kids drink mostly water and get fruit for "dessert"!! I even make them clean up their rooms and use awful, outdated words like "yes ma'am" and "please" and "thank you." Even worse, while I'm confessing ... I limit their digital time. Yes, I said it - we turn off technology and spend…

  • It doesn't sound selfish to me! I've fallen into the habit in the past of spending too much time caring for others and not enough taking time to care for myself. You know YOU better than anyone. Wish you the best!!
  • When I was an athlete (track & field), our team was coached NOT to consume any carbonated beverages because of the potential effects on our metabolism. (Mind you, this was more than a few years ago and research is constantly providing new information.) I'd suggest searching for some information on well-reputed medical…
  • Have you tried volunteering? There are so many worthwhile organizations who need volunteers of all different kinds. I grew up in a family that volunteered, and started at the ripe old age of 4 - I'm so thankful for the experiences! It helped me choose my career field, I've met lifelong friends, developed new interests…
  • @ Sunshinesoprano - I hope you'll consider trying to get another doctor's opinion. I won't presume that our circumstances are anything alike, I will just tell you that I've watched my weight fluctuate for more than 10 years and dutifully tracked what I was eating, did exactly what the doctor ordered, and it seemed to have…
  • What about taking pics of yourself in the same clothes as you hit milestones? Then, as you're making progress, and perhaps have a week/month when you didn't lose as much, you can compare your present weight to the weight you were initially. I tend to agree with some of the previous posters that friends/others' might not…
  • Do you crave chocolate often? It could by symptomatic of something you need in your diet (iron, certain vitamins, etc). Dovetailing off one of the previous replies, if you allow yourself a small amount of what you crave, you're less likely to binge on other things trying to satisfy that craving. Hang in there!!
