Dream weight is 109, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to get there, given that I'm not willing to go to extremes or live on broccoli and chicken breasts the rest of my life, but I would be blissfully happy to land on around 120. Right now am around 148-150 and that's very high for me. I spent years around the 138…

I'm just like you -- I can give up just about anything, but I do look forward to my red wine! I really don't drink other alcohol that much at all. But I have a glass or half glass of wine nearly every evening as I'm cooking dinner. On weekends I might have a lot more (up to 3 glasses). Now, I'm just at the beginning of my…

*raises hand* I am divorced, but was married for 20 years. I'm 43, and while I sometimes wondered if I wanted children now and again, ultimately I don't. I adore my nieces, I work with children as my occupation, I mentor a sixth grader, and I love children. I just am happy not to have any of my own!

Thank you, grimendale, for answering this! This makes me feel more confident about picking 1500 as a good weight loss amount! Yes, I can see why the weekly calories could get risky. I'm sort of moving away from that idea, even though I wrote a blog post today about how I wanted to try that, lol. I feel bad already because…

Feel free to add me! I'm 43 next week. I just started on this site (well, my profile is a lot older but I've started for REAL and in earnest last week) and I'm still trying to find my way as far as calories and how many to lose on! How much are those of you who are losing eating?

I'm 5'2", probably older than most of you (I'm 42, almost 43), and have NO idea what to eat to lose weight. I've been trying to figure it out all week. I started at 154.4 and am now 153.2, the highest weight(s) I've been in a few years, despite years of "trying to lose weight" through a variety of methods. I am hearing the…

jsl, thank you for the information, that is VERY helpful! Good point about comparing numbers for current maintenance vs. maintenance for ideal weight! :) I still have some research info to look into. Meanwhile, am eating around 1400-1500 calories, which should lead to loss...

Again, thank all of you guys so much for all the VERY helpful and supportive replies! I am reading and rereading them. I start my journey tomorrow. :) I"m hoping to have an average of about 1500 calories a day, which means about 1200 during the week and then extra calories allotted to the weekends when I tend to want to go…

You look really fantastic! Congratulations!

WOW, thank you thank you thank you for the replies so far! And thank you for that website to figure out the TDEE! I got somewhere between 1500-1600, given "moderate activity" which I think is accurate with exercising at least 5 times a week and I have a job where I walk around a lot. I think I might try 1500 and see…

Thank you thank you thank you for this. I just read through this whole thread and it gave me so much hope. I'm 42 and I don't have a huge amount to lose, just about 10 pounds to not be overweight anymore, and then some vanity weight, but I had fallen into a sad pattern of believing that maybe it just wasn't possible to get…
