  • Are you weighing your food? How do you calculate your daily/weekly intake? Regardless, those last 15 pounds take a loooong time. At least, if you want them to stay gone!
  • If it's Leslie Sansone walking workouts, they can be powered up or down as one desires. I always record my workouts as general aerobics, because I add a lot of jumping and jogging.
  • I agree with @sollyn23l2 that macros can be overhyped on these boards, especially when it comes to protein. I do fine on a minimum of 70g protein a day. I exercise 4-5 days a week (I am not currently trying to lose weight.) Point being: if I had to shoot for 173g protein a day (!!) I would go nuts. Relax a little on the…
  • Powerful post up there @springlering62 OP, maybe start to position yourself mentally in a place of power. If it requires therapy to do so, search up some options. You want to find the way back, and YOU have the ability to do so. But not if you view yourself through the lens of failure and weakness. We're rooting for you to…

  • I second what cmriverside has said above. Get through the discomfort. Did the AA guys give you a sponsor to call? Call him. Talk it out. Just. Don't. Drink.
  • If your appetite cues happen around certain activities, maybe switch up your routine. I know that when I sit down to watch a good show that we're invested in on Prime, I am immediately hungry. Only problem is I'm NOT really hungry because I've eaten well for the day. It's a ritual kind of hunger. Whoever said weight…
  • Sounds like you're feeling very low, and with your health issues that is understandable. Could you give yourself a little grace? You've been through a traumatic car accident that upended your life. That's really hard. But while you may be down, you're not out. You can definitely make some changes with what you eat. You can…
  • @sojcherb It truly seems like you're doing everything right, with the possible exception of stressing over carbs. If I may offer some reassurance, don't worry about the carbs (unless, obviously, you have a serious medical condition that would warrant carb scrutiny.) For weight loss, you want to focus on the calories. Yes,…
  • I wouldn't underestimate slow, even VERY slow, results. People commonly choose a steep calorie deficit, stick to it religiously for a prescribed amount of time (that they can stand it), and then throw it all out the window because it is unsustainable.
  • OP, I wouldn't recommend just buying a bunch of vegetables for the week without any plan. As a vegetarian, I am well acquainted with the "use them, they're haunting you, they're going to go bad any minute now" discomfort of loading up on fresh veg and then blithely going about my way cooking other things. Sketch out a few…
  • But isn't that why there are myriad approaches and programs to help problem drinkers? I totally agree that Allen Carr's written voice is a bit much...just kind of goofy by turns...but I was able to read past that for the very valid truths he presented about alcohol. Every chapter presented a new "con," if you will, that…
  • I don't see eye to eye with this. I love a homemade pumpkin protein shake for lunch - it's absolutely humongous, gives me a whopping amount of protein, tastes great (although my family wouldn't be caught drinking it, what do they know) low calorie, and filling. My soon-to-be 96 year old aunt often has a smoothie for dinner…
  • OP, change the narrative in your head. Go from "I hope I can make it" to "I CAN make it." Things that we tell ourselves have a way of becoming actions. Then listen to @AnnPT77 and other wise posters and get crackin'.
  • OP, you've gotten good information here. I wouldn't worry too much about what your maintenance calories would be as compared to someone else... the important thing is to make sure that you're logging your food and exercise in an accurate manner. Look at the overall trend. 3 weeks feels like a long time when you've put in a…

  • How much weight do you have to lose? If it's less than 20 pounds the loss can take a while, and you don't want to choose a drastic calorie goal. Slow loss beats fast loss almost every time.

  • Have you tried AA? A lot of people love it.
  • It's interesting -- Allan Carr titled his book "The Easy Way to Control Drinking" so as not to alienate the people who want to try and hang onto drinking. But it's a full stop book. I'm with you: I just saw no point to moderating. I liked this quote: "If I'm moderating my drinking, I'm not enjoying it. If I'm enjoying my…
  • It took me a long time to quit alcohol. AA was not the paradigm for me, although people often find the meetings essential to staying sober. For me, personally, the book The Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allan Carr did the trick, so to speak. It took the approach of revealing alcohol for the scam that it is, chapter by…
  • The Galveston Diet website is a giant push to pay for diet plans and coaching and supplements. While divulging nothing about the diet, I did find this headline within the site: "End The Vicious Cycle Of Calorie Restriction" lol lol No thanks.
  • Try not to feel defeated. "If you got out of bed this morning, you're doing all right." Fill your mind with something a bit more uplifting than "so fed up." (I know, sometimes easier said than done.) Start walking. Everyone can walk. And that feeling exhausted? That's often the best time to do something physical. Get your…
  • I am ecstatic to reach 70g protein a day. I'm vegetarian, and do not reside in the same zip code as yogurt or hard boiled eggs. I could definitely substitute more nutritious foods for sweets, but it seems they wouldn't be THAT high in protein. I use protein bars, occasionally peptides in my coffee, but I never ever hit…
  • The hubris of this thread title makes me wonder if OP coined it, or lifted it directly from the book. Not that it matters, but sheesh...
  • It's all going to depend on your weight loss or maintenance goals. @cmriverside gives clear instructions above for setting up a calorie goal on this website. As you eat food throughout the day, you'll want to log it, and this is a skill that improves over time. A food scale for weighing your foods is very helpful. But we…
  • No offense to the OP (who hasn't bothered showing up again for any discussion) but I find it mind-boggling that so-called authors can continue to trot out the same old diet ideas, package them in a book blaring with hyperbolic quotes all over it about being "ground breaking" and people will continue to shell out money for…
  • @cmriverside I'm talking about entering a new recipe, which ultimately leads to the Recipe Nutrition Calculator. And I, too, am on the website but I run screaming from updates, so my system is old & creaky (sort of like me.) Sorry to be unclear about that. It's the recipe builder that I have so much trouble with. I don't…
  • The "add recipe" function, in my (free member) experience, is pretty dreadful. If you choose an item from the database, you cannot look at its nutrition information until you've added it to your recipe builder. Then you see that the calorie or protein or whatever count is waaaaay off, so you want to remove it. No dice. And…
  • That's a lot of physical exertion each day. What is your calorie goal? Age, height? Current weight?
  • I just turned 60. That's freaking me out a bit more than what I weigh, but I decided years ago to commit fully to exercise. Some find her way too chirpy, but Leslie Sansone's walking workout DVDs did the trick for me. She got me back into exercise after a shoulder injury. And it's not just cardio -- she's got workouts for…
  • Nah, there's no reason to cut out sugar (unless you have specific health problems that demand it.) From my understanding, it's not easy to "mess up your metabolism." Your metabolism regulates itself to your body's needs. Eating sugary foods or drinking sugary drinks can be very easy to overdo (don't I know.) Once you…
