There's never been a successful vegan culture (free of omnivores) and anyone who ate a true Paleolithic diet is long since extinct. We have a huge variety of foods available to us, some of which are more suited to some people than they are to others. We should take advantage of those foods that are best for our individual…

Great Value mini deep dish cheese pizza, with 2 tablespoons each of onions and chopped bell peppers and an ounce of cut up tomatoes, a sugar-free chocolate pudding, and a diet Coke. "Watching Talladega" food. I completely agree. I eat veggies and homemade stuff and skinless, boneless chicken with the best of them, but…

^^ This. The second you acknowledge it's not an addiction, you lose your powerlessness against it. You don't NEED it and you won't do anything illegal to get it. You won't get delirium tremens if you don't have it. Tell yourself you can have a cookie or whatever when it's no longer a craving but merely a desire and reward…

Some years back, a radio station had a water-drinking challenge, with a Wii as a prize. One of the contestants died. Her family successfully sued the radio station because the disk jockeys had been warned of the dangers and discounted it. She "only" had to drink two gallons over three hours in order for it to kill her:…

Bummer. Well, if you can recommend a way for me to try it, save for trapping the nutria myself, can you PM me? I travel a fair bit during the summer and could probably make it to the Cajun Riviera or the surrounding area sometime during that time. :) Oh, again, not too sure it's "exotic," but we grow Jerusalem artichokes…

You know that a plant-based diet is not intrinsically healthy, right? You can gain weight on a plant-based diet just as easily as on one that includes meat.

I don't work in an office, so I have no office stories to tell, but when I was at university I had a bro-sciencey gym professor. One of my "favorite" pieces of advice that she gave was that breathing was VERY important when you worked out. That's true on it's face, but she followed that advice up by saying that your…

Can you recommend anywhere in the Hammond(ish) area in which I could get nutria? I've never tried it, but I've heard it's good. I enjoy alligator, crawfish, venison, quail, and rabbit. I've had elk and squirrel and enjoyed both, but they aren't part of my usual diet. I'm not sure that any of those are "exotic," but they're…

I like adding cocoa powder to my coffee and having sugar-free pudding or cookies in the house. It prevents me from pretending that I'm helpless against chocolate cravings. If you make it magical by giving it special powers over your mind and treat it as if it will take control of your actions--hiding it away, or…

You know there is nothing intrinsically healthy about the vegan or vegetarian diet?

I love salmon croquettes. If you use a box of cornbread stuffing and add an egg to it, they are simple to make. I have to agree, though, if you don't like salmon, don't eat it. It's not a magical part of good health.

How do you make cheese without adding something to make a cheese product? I'm pretty sure that even is Kraft starts with "cheese" and adds to it, something is added prior to that cheese existing. I make my goat cheese twice a week. To do so, I bring my goat milk up to 185(ish) degrees and add white vinegar or lemon juice.…

Walmart sells boxes of four individual-sized frozen pizzas. They cost about $4 each. One of those and a small salad usually fills me up pretty well for lunch, for about 450 to 500 calories, depending on the style of pizza and what I put in my salad. They taste pretty good--not pizzeria pizza, but if you spray your baking…

Peanut butter and bacon sandwich = awesome.

Peer-reviewed articles, please.

It's a mind trick. Some people need to make things seem ugly so they don't want them any longer. :)

LOL I was definitely my cats' servant. No question there! However, I own my animals. I love them, cherish them, cry when they die, but they are my property under the law. Just like I'm an omnivore. Facts are facts. :)

If you have pets, try to avoid xylitol. It's poisonous to dog and cats.

No, it's not nitpicking. A lot of vegans attempt to use the most "negative" words they can when talking about people with whom they disagree. Unfortunately, it's not unusual for ordinary people to pick up on those words and use them, possibly in an attempt to find common ground. It's the same thing that brought us "pet…

So you eat no veggies or carbs, save what is predigested in the stomachs of your prey? People who eat meat are NOT carnivores. By the way: open forum. If you want a private conversation, take it to private messaging.

I've been using between two and six packets of saccharine a day since the 1970s. So far my liver hasn't failed and my skin hasn't fallen off or developed other than a couple of wrinkles that come with age. I admit I'm n = 1, but I'd say that decades of use is long-term use.

When I am extremely tired and having what I call a "bad eating day," I eat a Banquet frozen meal. They generally run about 300 calories. Yes, the sodium content is high, but the portion control they represent have taught me a lot about eating less than I used to eat. I've lost over 60 pounds eating these meals, as well as…

Why not just plan for these snacks? Save a couple of hundred calories for the nighttime munchies and keep low calorie things around for that meal. Bistro pre-packaged salads are pretty good; for about 300 calories, you get something that is loaded with greens, meat, cheese, and crunchy things. Instead of setting up rules…

Just curious, but what are the benefits of organic popcorn? I normally get the 100-calorie packs of popcorn so that I can avoid the need to weigh or measure.

They don't taste all that spiffy, but the Life Choice protein bars you can find at Walmart (in the cereal aisle) are around 170 calories and have 18 or so grams of protein. I find the peanut butter version to be fairly tolerable, but I would not recommend the chocolate mint variety.

Molaufy is not entirely wrong. The American Heart Association says that people should limit themselves to about six teaspoons/100 calories of added sugar (women) or nine teaspoons/150 calories of added sugar (men) a day. That works out to about 25 grams for women and about 37.5 grams for men. The World Health Organization…

^ Totally this. I am pretty sure I covered that when I said, "my carbs/sugars come from the things I enjoy more than a bitty piece of fruit that does little to fill me up or keep me full." I'm frequently amazed at how people here can skew something that is written and become outraged about it in order to start an argument.…

Totally unconcerned about GMO labelling. It's just another means of controlling the food. And you know what they say: "he who controls the food . . ." Yes, they are supposed to feed a 21st century population using 18th century methods and feed their families and their livestock (if they have any) and pay their bills on…

Where did I say that?

Then why go through all the fuss, bother, and silliness connected with a vegan diet? There are a lot of ovolacto vegetarians out there and none of them eat animals. Heck, some people claiming to be vegans even eat shrimp and shellfish, because they talk themselves into these creatures' rudimentary nervous systems as…
