Veganism is a means of control over what you put in your body, nothing more, nothing less. It's like any other way of eating. Nothing I said was untrue. If a person believes that it has an impact on "animal exploitation and suffering," then that's all well and good. However, most people who take this position know nothing…
-
It can be done, but why would you want to do it when equal or better results can be achieved with less effort? Vegan eating is more about having control over going into your body than it is about health. There is no health benefit to being vegan, but it does seem to give you points on the superiority scale.

The only milk comes from animals. Anything else is water combined with nut pulp (or whatever) and processed. I prefer the raw milk from my dairy goats and will occasionally buy cow's milk cream or half and half for a bit of a change up. I have used almond "milk" before and found it to be all right, but not something I…

I make my own raw goat milk yogurt a half gallon at a time on an electric stove in an old steel saucepan--nothing special. Heat till 185 degrees F, remove from heat, cool to 100 degrees. I add five tablespoons of starter yogurt from a previous batch, along with a half tablespoon of unflavored gelatin to thicken it. I cook…

Glad to oblige. Tell me: if a pack of boneless, skinless chicken thighs that lasts for seven meals and a bag of walnuts that lasts for two meals costs the same, where did I go wrong?

I apologize for annoying you. If MFP had not taken away the block feature, you could block me. Think of how much happier you'd be then. ;) But seriously, maybe you should think about what I'm saying, since NOTHING I have said is untrue. Fruits, nuts, and some veggies are very expensive. You couldn't eat a healthy vegan…

And the sad thing is, it's not a joke: http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/dvorsky20140811 Note the term "ethical" in the title. Yeah. "Ethical." Good one.

There is absolutely nothing inherently wrong with being a concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO), as long as the waste is handled properly. You know that one of the HSUS' horse warehouses sanctuaries was actually classified as a CAFO, right? That is, it was--their solution to that problem was amazing and would have…

When I meet the same number of "ethical" vegans that are not zealots as I have met that are zealots, I shall let you know. I don't care about vegans who eat that way for their health--they are not the ones who are attempting to end all animal ownership and use. However, in your attempt to make my post all about me, you…

Yes, he was. It was the beginning of an anti-Christian rant, prompted by my choice of avatar. If he was not trying to derail the thread, which this discussion is threatening to do, it was a personal attack on me, outside the topic of the thread. Either way, it's unacceptable behavior.
-
No, he was trying to derail the thread. I have never met such a vegan. Neither have the many dog breeders and fanciers or other animal producers of my acquaintance.

It would be wonderful if vegans could just leave other people alone; however, there have been many legal assaults on farmers and ranchers who provide meat and dairy to people over the recent years, many of which are led by animal right activists--the vast majority of whom are vegans--that endeavor to make meat and dairy…

No, it's simply not sustainable. First of all, where would we get the fertilizer for all those plants? Much of our planet's land mass is not arable land. Food animals can graze on land that will not support plants grown for human consumption. I won't even go into all the objections that go with attempting to globalize…

I still don't understand what is so ethical or moral about eating a vegan diet. If you don't want to eat meat, that's fine. It's the whole packaging to turn vegans into sooperspeshul people that makes it so obnoxious to so many other people. There's nothing special about it. Lots of animals die to feed vegans and veganism…

Amen. Before I was diagnosed with diabetes and was expected to partake in the fast for Great Lent, I had close to two months being as close to vegan as I ever could possibly manage to get. I spent most of my day feeling hungry and angry at the world. I was constantly dizzy, tired, and weak, usually in concert with terrible…

Same here! I had several pieces today and don't regret it but I can't do it too often. I have discovered a type of sushi I like, but don't know what it's called--don't laugh at my description, since I'm not familiar with terms--it's kind of like a brown "bowl," in this case, it holds less than a quarter cup of stuff,…

Wow. No. What I said is true. That's what roughage is all about, for Heaven's sake. You're not making your digestive system more efficient in terms of digesting nutrients. You're making it more efficient in terms of expelling waste. Human beings can't digest cellulose, so it goes, undigested, through our systems and aids…

Moving your bowels doesn't mean that your digestion has improved--really it's just the opposite. Moving your bowels means that there's more in your bowel for your body to move out of it. Those movements you're so proud of (and really? who brags about bowel movements outside of toilet training?) just mean that you've put a…

But what I don't understand is the issue with frozen foods. In many cases, frozen foods have more nutrients than fresh. I'm sorry, but I have to wonder what the value is of such a restrictive way of eating, especially if you look at it as "doing a diet" instead of making a long-term lifestyle change. I'm also uncertain of…

I'm not all that worried about regularity, since I seem to do okay in that department, but it's nice to know they help in that regard. Other than the pudding and using them in smoothies, what are good ways to prepare them?
-
Put a little water in the bottom of a saucepan, toss the vegetables in a strainer, and steam them instead of boiling them.
-
Doesn't it depend on what goes into the omelet? I have two eggs, scrambled with milk, onions, peppers, cheese, and sausage and still manage to eat for the rest of the day--even if I use butter instead of cooking spray.
-
Excellent! I like the idea of a pudding. I'm starting work at a fast food restaurant and will need a way to avoid "too much" fast food in my diet and not regain the 63 pounds I've l:ost so far. I know that I can occasionally have a cheeseburger and salad and a diet drink, but I'd like to have portable alternatives that…

I never said I was an omnivore (although I am). It is completely not the same thing. A vegan can't walk into a room without announcing his or her vegan-ness. If they are in the room with a bunch of vegans, they need to compare vegan credentials. When omnivores get together, they eat. That's pretty much it. Anyway, if…
-
Why is that the same thing? The point of being an omnivore is that you can eat pretty much anything put in front of you, as long as it's not generally harmful to human life--and I'd add the restriction that you like it and are not sensitive or allergic to it. What makes being on a weight loss forum so special, when vegans…

Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

I am also a lazy cook. One favorite meal is steamed shrimp and vegetables over a bed of rice. Use boil-in-bag rice, because it's easy. Put a little water in the bottom of a saucepan and set it on the burner on high or medium high. Put a couple of dozen extra small peeled frozen shrimp in the bottom of a metal strainer. Put…

Be careful with PCRM. They give out a lot of misinformation.

Not for humans, but it is for pets. If you chew sugar-free gum with xylitol in it, keep it out of reach of your dog or cat. I know it is deadly to dogs and may also be to cats.

I am going to be active, but I'm not sure about the schedule yet. I thought I would just set myself to maintenance calories at this activity level for the rest of the week, starting tomorrow, and then up my activity level on MFP once I got past the training days. I have another 10 pounds to go before I hit normal…
