Chia Seeds
What's good about them? How do you use them? I saw a bag of them for sale for about 90 cents, so I bought them, remembering that people used them in smoothies and such, but what benefits do they actually provide used that way? I am looking online for information, too, but would like to hear from people here as well. Thanks…

Starting a new job next week
I am starting a new job next week (I've been unemployed for a couple of years) and I'm thinking of going into maintenance until the end of the month so that I can have an easier time adjusting to a different eating schedule and to a different activity level. Thoughts on the matter? Suggestions?

Can someone please explain how these things work to me?
"Refeed" and "adaptive thermogensis" in relation to restarting weight loss. Just for the record, I'm not worried about my weight loss. I feel comfortable with the rate at which I'm losing, since I'm feeling good, eating foods I like, and not seeing any loose issues. However, someone in another thread suggested that, had a…

"Eating better" on the run w/gluten intolerance
I have a friend who has chronic fatigue syndrome and gluten intolerance. She is constantly on the run, taking care of a shut-in mother, taking care of her horse, and running errands as well as everyday household tasks. She tries to get three meals a day and a snack at night, but she's concerned that she's not eating well…

Calculating body weight at home?
I know that BMI and body fat percentage are not the same calculation. I am curious, however, as to how accurate body fat calculations done at home can be? According to the CDC calculator, I have a 27.6 BMI and according to the calculator below, I have a body fat percentage of 24%. I still have a fat (but shrinking) stomach…

Trigger foods?
I've seen the term used here an awful lot and I'd like to understand what people think makes a "trigger" food. I'll state flat out that I don't believe in them--to me the term "trigger" anything is just an excuse to lose control. I enjoy food (or I would not be trying to lose weight) and there are foods I enjoy more than…

Kefir? What can you tell me about it?
I have a friend who wants to trade me kefir grains for goat milk. What can you tell me about its taste? Texture? Benefits? Even if I don't like it, I have some dogs that she says can benefit from it, so I'm willing to give it a try.

Anytime Fitness?
I am happy with the way my weight loss is going, but would like to develop more muscle, especially building some abs (I know I won't see them till I finish losing my weight, but . . .). I have an irregular schedule, so the idea of a place open 24 hours/day is appealing to me. What are people's opinions on Anytime Fitness…

Question about making whey powder.
The whey I get from making goat cheese has mostly been going to the dogs. I saved a little to add to chicken soup stock. However, I've found a recipe for homemade whey powder that intrigues me. The recipe consists of bringing the whey to a caramel-like color, pouring it onto wax papered cookie sheets, and allowing it to…

How do you estimate calories burned?
I just worked out with a recorded program. It got my heart really pumping and I can feel muscles that will probably be sore tomorrow. LOL How do I estimate the calories burned from this workout? I'd like to do it three times/week and alternate it with dog walking/training sessions, which is how I get a lot of my exercise.

So I was looking for pictures for a profile . . . NSV
I was looking for pictures of me, working as a dog trainer, to illustrate a profile. Unfortunately, most of my pictures are from before I lost all my weight. Now, I knew that I'd lost plenty, I feel so much better now, but nothing illustrated it better for me than finding these two pictures. They were taken almost exactly…

Is there anyone left here?
Just wondering, because I was thinking of starting a group like this one.

Same meal, two different PP glucose readings?
Yesterday, before going to work milking goats, I had the following breakfast: Coffee with 2 hazelnut creamers and a packet of Sweet n Low Yoplait light yogurt with 2 tbsp finely diced walnuts Lender's onion bagel with a slice of American cheese and an over-easy egg cooked with butter-flavored cooking spray. My 2-hour bgl…

Slowly talking myself into buying weights
A few weeks ago I posted that I was intimidated by lifting weights. Well, the guy I walk a Siberian husky for has a set of barbells and I've been able to use some 10-pound weights a few times a week. So far, I've not hurt anything or dropped anything and have felt generally okay doing it. (His are from Sports Authority.)…

Edamame and soy
Okay, so I know that edamame is basically immature soy. I've had some recent blood sugar spikes when I eat soy products, like bread and cereal and have had negative reactions to soy "milk" in the past. However, I want to try a modified recipe for succotash that uses edamame in place of lima beans. As a dog person who often…

Intimidated by lifting weights; however
I know I'm intimidated by lifting weights, even those little dumbbells you can get at Walmart. I know that I'm not fit enough to even consider it at this point and I'm still actively trying to lose weight so I question whether trying to build muscle isn't a waste of time or effort. However, I've been adding some push ups…

High protein, low carb/sodium/sugar snacks?
Any suggestions? I'm looking for something that I don't necessarily have to make or that I can make in bulk and then freeze. Thanks!

Going back to school . . . weight loss suggestions?
In September, I am going back to school to finish the last three courses of my master's degree. I am doing really well with my weight loss right now because I get a lot of exercise tending a goat herd and walking a client dog three times a week. However, when I'm back at school, I'll be working at least four days/week,…

Glucerna Shakes?
I have a really hard time eating supper sometimes and end the day with a lot of calories in a deficit. That's all well and good for weight loss, but I'm not interested in starving myself or doing weird things with my blood sugar. I have Type II diabetes and take metformin at night, usually with a snack. Would Glucerna…
