I missed yesterday as turned up at the pool without a costume! Swam this morning and my chest is definately getting better - could do some slow breast stroke and crawl, but backstroke will be another week or so.
-
Haha Fishgutzy! Swan yesterdat (forgot to post) and this morning. Same thing both days - kicks only, 500m front, 500m back, 500m side with a sprint lap to finish. Followed by a relaxing 200m aqua jog.
-
Swam the same as yesterday - all kick only with fins - 400m front, 400m back, 400m side and 200m aqua jog.
-
First early morning swim for 3 and a half weeks and its good to start getting back into a routine. Kicks again - 400m front, 400m back, 400m side and 200m aqua jog.

@mpeters - your bruise is probably something similar to what I have. Be patient - the pain takes time to go. Went back into the pool again today for another legs only session - added side leg kicks into the mix as well. Am definately going back into the pool for the rest of the week. On another note, I haven't mentioned…

I went back to the pool today even though my sternum still hurts. Took fins and kick board and did 200m front kicks, 200m back then 200m aqua jogging, repeat and repeat again. Felt really good to be in the water again and the chest was fine. Will be back tomorrow and will do similar swims until I can use my arms again.

Emma - those times are great. Well done. I thought I would try to see if my sternum could bear any swimming today so off I went. One length slow breaststroke = pain. One length slow crawl = pain. One length slow back = more pain. So that was almost that. Instead I water jogged for 10 lengths then did 10 more legs only…

Yeah Rose is right!! I love the early morning swim and the virtous feeling I get too :)
-
Thanks everyone - it is painful but today seems to have improved a bit. Still haven't braved the pool - will probably wait until the three week mark (this Wednesday coming) before going back for a light swim.

Girlswithcurls - I only learnt how to fly last year at age 46. I still hate doing it for all the reasons that everyone else has posted, but am getting less out of breath now (just have to rest for 30 seconds instead of a minute after a length!!). I had some lessons to improve my crawl and the instructor also taught me fly.…

I always lose 1-2 lbs when swimming. Just water I know, but its nice to see it on the scales.
-
I hope it gets better soon too! It's really, really annoying...

Nice easy 2km in 45 mins today - all laps alternating free, back abd breaststroke
-
Never tried a cold wrap, but do have a little camping towel which I think will now live in my handbag just in case. Also, I forgot that even doing a bit of housework brings on the red face - 15 mins today of general tidying and hoovering brought it on and the sweat was pouring down the back of my neck.
-
That's better. No back pain today so 3km free then 1km mix free, back and breast. All in a nice tidy 1 hour and 20 mins.

Missed swimming yesterday but was back in the pool this morning. Annoyingly though I did something to my back just before getting into the pool so really just did a lazy hour swimming slowly up and down to take it easy rather than what I hoped was going to be a 5km session!! I know that this minor muscle pull is due to…

Rosebarn - for swimmers ear make sure you swim and shower with earplugs in. I used to get that a lot but having used earplugs consistently over the past 3 years I have been problem free.

There are a lot of us out there! My other passion is going to out dancing and listening to bands - I am always the first to start sweating and turning red and it can be really embarrassing. But the worst time was when I was out sunning myself and this lady came over to me in a panic saying "get out of the sun you are…

Hello everyone - i am back on the boards and will be staying vocal for longer this time. Have still been swimming regularly but did lose the passion for a bit. It seems to be back now so i will be logging swims more regularly now. I also found out the in London if i join the public better gym network ( they run a lot of…

Unfortunately its genetic :) I too am one of those red facers that take an age to cool down. I thought that losing weight and exercising more would help (I thought it was related to being unfit) but it didn't. All of my family are exactly the same.....

Yesterday managed a paltry 2.5km in just over an hour - really slow as I just wasn't feeling it. Much better this morning with 2.2km in 45 mins.
-
I do have a USB turntable, but have not got round to converting the vinyl yet. I need to take a couple of months off work to be able to do that!!
-
Nice swim today - 2.2km crawl with flip turns every other turn. I am slowly getting better at the flips, but am still not quite fit enough to make them every turn.
-
For me its an even more basic issue. My music is on vinyl!!! And yes, I have a fully set up sound sytem and turntable at home. So to be able to listen to what I like I would need to convert it all to digital or buy it again so I stick to the quiet of the water instead.

Good morning - been back in the pool since Monday and it feels good. Doing gym based exercises just wasn't cutting it for me. On the bad news front my gym has upped its monthly cost. But the good news is that it seems that in London you can join a public pool for a monthly/annual fee just to SWIM and a reduced cost, plus…

Hello everyone - mine seems to have gone away and I swam for the past couple of days and it hasn't returned. Stress related skin problem seems to be my view (work is astonishingly busy). Good to be swimming again.

Oh my - that is crazy stair action!!

No salt water pool near me, but there is an ozone filtered pool in a very very expensive private gym near my office. That might have to be a last resort option because of the price.
-
Thanks for the suggestion Robertus and its very interesting to hear that this can happen. I haven't been overdoing anything recently but then I rarely take days rests either. It's a possibility to keep in mind.

I went to the gym this afternoon to ask as they closed the pool on Wednesday to "rebalance the tanks" and the rash started on thursday when they re-opened. The operations manager said that they hadn't changed the chemicals but would take a look at the pool test records (they test the water every 4 hours and keep logs) and…
