  • Water and meat, eh? You must have been a cat in your former life.
  • How about The Tick, both the animated show and the short-lived live-action version. Offbeat, but I thought it was hilarious :)
  • Hmm, depending on the ceiling height, you might be able to get all three up on the wall in some fashion. You could put your clear sheet of acrylic behind them too once you refinish the wall. One nice thing about that is that it is easily wiped down and you can replace it from time to time as it gets scuffed up without much…
  • Nobody is perfect. Look at it this way, you enjoyed it, and now you are going to make up for it. Use the incident to steady your determination instead of letting it weaken your resolve! :) Also 1500 kcal isn't all that much. If you are eating at a weekly deficit of 3500 for a 1lb/wk loss, then all the cake did was delay…
  • It is probably mostly water loss, maybe a couple pounds of fat. Just get back to eating healthy meals that are in-plan for your calories. You need to recover from being sick. Also, you mention you gave up soda. Have you considered getting some of those flavored seltzers? I like those myself. I also drink a diet soda with…
  • I bet the limitation is going to be hard for you, but at least you can get on the trainer at some point. Real glad you stopped riding during the TDF challenge when your leg pain started. Wise move for sure, especially in hindsight. Damn close call. Hey, was that recurring pain you had in the foot also related to this?
  • Could also be the bolts that hold on your chain rings. I had one that worked a bit loose and there was a persistent creaking from it. I'd check that, the pedals too, before servicing the BB! Oh, and maybe you have a loose cleat on a shoe. That can pop or creak too.
  • KJ, glad to hear from you and you letting us know what happened. That sounds like a close call. Take it easy and stay on those blood thinners. Man! I'm just glad those clots didn't get stuck in some bad places. I never knew an artery could compress a vein like that and cause obstruction and clotting like that. Crazy! Good…
  • This is shocking and disturbing news. I am really hoping he gets though everything OK.
  • Don't eat too much of it and it is good for you!! You have to remember that most restaurant portions are going to be much higher in calories and sugar and salt than home cooked food. If you are going to eat there every day, then eat less of it :) Oh, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDU0CTDMk2g
  • I was in the same boat more or less. I still eat fast food, but have had to restrict. I find that once you get used to eating fast food a lot less, you will miss it less over time. But it is going to take 2-3 months of that new habit before you aren't as hungry for it. I think the flavor, and the sudden influx of protein &…
  • Seconded. A gentle ride on exercise bike is good, and easy on the bones and joints. Swimming is even better in your situation, if you have some access to a pool. (Edit: and, as almost everyone else has pointed out, check with the Dr. first!!)

  • It is the little life lessons like that that make one less quick to judge by appearances!
  • Yogurt Yogurt (another brand) Salad Egg - Fried Egg (whites) Kind of funny that coffee didn't make the top five for me (it was 7th). Also, I think the eggs, salad and yogurt are most frequent for me simply because I usually hit these every day while on this MFP diet as they make me satisfied with the protein or are filling…
  • There are ways to get a more accurate number. Using a heart rate monitor and factoring in your weight, speed, and other variables. A power meter is another (expensive) option that will really help. Keep in mind, you will never have the exact count no matter what. I recently started using a HRM and uploading my ride data to…
  • My bet is you didn't have quite enough carbs in your system and you got a mild bonk. http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/Exercise-Metabolism-Energy/a/Bonking-Hitting-The-Wall.htm I've made that mistake a couple times -- once on the cycle and another time on an all day mountain hike with a heavy backpack. You had a bit of…
  • I had only 3oz. this morning mixed with about 5oz. of my kids berry flavored juice, so that is only 88ml beet juice. It was quite passable mixed, although still not good! I notice no real diff on the bike; but my BP has been slightly lower. Yeah, I can't see me drinking that much, like 12oz! Bleh. The flavor to me kind of…
  • Good idea Ken -- probably cheaper too. I'll buy a beet or two next time and try that. The juice is kind of pricey! Do you think it helps with stamina?
  • Tried the exercise-only thing in 2012 and 2013. I was able to drop 10-15lbs over three seasons that I can cycle. I cycled a lot. Until winter that is. And the weight came right back as soon as winter hit. Because I kept eating the same stuff and amounts. However, first time trying MFP this year, counting calories, eating a…
  • I loved the killer headwind simulation!
  • Some drivers don't realize they should move over. Obliviousness. I get that often enough when cycling. Maybe one out of every 500 cars. However, unlike cycling, I think it is legal to run against traffic. So that is your non-aggressive solution. Bonus: you can see all cars coming and how much room they give. She will have…
  • Haha - love it. My favorites: the Muesli and the salad :) Like all food videos, even this one made me hungry. I have a problem!
  • Well, I feel bad for whatever happens to the poor fella who might make fun of your husband's kit...just judging from the upper arm triceps size it looks like a punch would pack some power there!
  • Nothing wrong with bagels so long as you account for it properly! Man, I love em. When I was 19 I used to unload trucks all day and sort packages. At 6am we used to fuel up by eating a NY style water bagel piled with whipped cream cheese, along with a couple eggs, and some pan-fried potatoes in butter. I was 6'4" and 180…
  • Ouch! Sounds like you ended up OK in the long run? I'm interested in hearing more details should you want to write it up...
  • Yeah, I agree about the value of listening. Usually I hear the vehicles coming a good ways off. I am never surprised by a motor vehicle coming up behind. This is another reason to avoid using in-ear headphones! But being able to simply glance back as they approach without taking my vision completely off the front view is…
  • "Acoustic motorcycle," LOL. You must be a guitarist as well as a bicyclist :) I haven't used Cyclemeter. But I have experienced MapMyRide and Strava. I think MMR has an "auto-pause" function that will detect stops and halt the timer and the speed stats during that period. Strava might do that automatically with it counting…
  • That is fantastic! Seems like a cool trail you have too, with the swimming options. I bet your local bike shop knows about that riding group. So you can browse the shop's bike offerings while asking about that too :)
  • Pretty good skill! Now here in the US, cops will throw you in jail for this :-O
