I have a ton of clothes that are too large now in the closet. Even though I don't anticipate gaining the weight back, it is a little insurance to at least spare my wallet pain! I plan to give it a few years before donating or throwing stuff out.

Congrats; nice recap too. How was the saddle issue?

Some anti-inflammatory drug like aspirin or ibuprofen regularly for a few days might also help it heal up faster with the antibiotics, if you can tolerate those. Hey, if you haven't seen the doctor for a full course of antibiotics, you might want to do that...partially killing off the infection with incomplete time/dosage…
-
Let that heal up. Might take a while from the sound of it, which I can tell is really frustrating your ride agenda. By the way, anyone try one of these?!
-
I usually give up road riding outside in late Nov to early Dec. Then it is turbo or exercise at a gym.
-
well, you could stand on the pedals 100% of the time. Imagine the workout you will get!
-
ouch - @cloggsy71 Glad you got that sewn up!
-
Now the Fred in me is saying this guy needs to duct tape them to the handlebars!

Garmin calculations are much more realistic when coupled with HRM. Since I stopped using my HRM, I basically divide what they give me by two, when trying to figure how much to eat back and such. Like you have seen, and what TBY said, without HRM or power data, it is like double the burn that is recorded. Strava is also not…

Grats on the new bikes, Chunky & Slainte!

OK, I rode a little today, thought about this, and as I went I am half expecting it to just shatter

Used to get the same pain when doing over 15 miles. I've tried several saddles with success; believe it or not, this very inexpensive one was a good one for me: http://ecom1.planetbike.com/5000.html. I even put one on my MTB. Check the reviews on Amazon too, if you are interested. However, I think the real answer is to…

Now that this thread is resurrected, I can see that since my last post here I have tried commuting quite a few times since. In short: the VPN solution to not lugging a laptop works but it still isn't as nice as having the machine at home. So if I anticipate a lot of take-home work, or need the laptop over the weekend, I…

Excellent - I think you are well along in being prepared for the big one in September!

Well, Happy MFP birthday to you! I always enjoy your interesting posts TBY. I'm glad you are recommitting to the MFP plan and logging. It has been a godsend for me as well; having what I also thought was a heart attack a few years ago and being quite overweight it gave me the data and discipline to get things under control…

Figured I'd take tire off at leisure tonight before I commute again with it tomorrow and I figured out what gave me the rear flat last week. At some point earlier in the year when I put on some new tires, I must have squished the cloth rim tape over a little bit off one of the spoke heads when muscling on the new tire,…

Rear tube went PPHHHSSsssphsssst.t....t..... on the ride home from work. Its been a while since I had one on the old road bike. Hope this isn't the start of a trend. I thought immediately of m1xm0d3! Yes...the guts of my old Fuji splattered like roadkill on the side of the road. Thankfully, the old pocket rocket and a…

Especially those of us that found the gaining thing easy. And enjoyable. ;) In fact, I miss my midnight snacks. OK, that snack was really my fourth meal of the day. I still miss it sometimes...sigh.
-
I agree with that aspect of it...I might still use my HRM outside if it wasn't even more finicky than my cat --who might like a flavor of cat food one day and then turn the bowl over with disgust for the same thing the next week.
-
I kinda gave up on my HRM for a while as it is lately just so subject to annoying spikes and fake info due to wind/static and such on outside rides. I tried everything to mitigate it but I can't eliminate the issues. Inside it is rock solid so I plan to use it when on the trainer, once the weather gets bad. While I used it…

WTG, that is ambitious and a great goal! Welcome to the group :)
-
I did try this...so if the spacers are the problem, it probably isn't the headset compression!
-
Hey thanks for the advice. I was thinking the spacers might be it too so I wrapped my hand around the spacers and also various parts of the headtube and induced it to make the creaking/popping aound during my last ride and did not feel a thing! So...that leads me to deduce that the sound is travelling up from somewhere…
-
So, I had my first ride with it for about 20mi. I do really like it! So much better handling and lightness compared to the Fuji. No more downtube friction shifting! The only bad thing is there is already an annoying pop-creaking sound from around the headset area, but it is hard to localize. I'm going to take it back in…

Ceci, nice pic. Beautiful day and what a view! It must have made the climb effort worth it :)

I'm going to drink some electrolytes with my drink anyway, kc! ;) Seriously, I find the the theory that you need to replenish some salts in endurance athletics more compelling than the arguments in the article you linked. And keep in mind that I was a mostly water-drinker on long rides and feel that I have avoided some…
