For what it's worth: I'm 51, weigh 281, when I exercise I wear a HRM and I use this site to calculate my calories: http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/calculators/calories-burned-calculator-based-on-average-heart-rate/ I've guestimated my VO2 max at 26, and my average HR over an hour on the treadmill is 147 - the…

I found this recipe for Sweet Potato Scallop (http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1946,134187-240195,00.html) which I've made a few times; it's very good and reheats well. (I add extra pepper and ginger :-) ______________________________________________________________________ SCALLOPED SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE Printed from…

I use this calculator with my HRM: http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/calculators/calories-burned-calculator-based-on-average-heart-rate - I usually knock off ~100 cals per hour from this number. I eat back most of exercise calories but rarely all. Mike

I love to cook! I love to entertain and feed my friends! I'm afraid I'm having a hard time even beginning to sympathize with your husband.

I was saddened to hear the news of Sarah's death. Although I am not, in general, a sports fan I have a tremendous admiration for our athletes. So many of them do so much for our society beyond their sport, we should cherish and support them while they are still with us! It sounds like Sarah was just such an athlete; and I…

I take 2 tsp every morning. You can also buy the psyllium husks in bulk food stores, the price per Kg (or lb) is pretty scarry but they are very light. Do make sure you drink lots of water afterward they will absorbe a fair bit. MIke

Waiting tables for our church's dinner theater. Lots of fun with friends, on my feet for 4 hours (extra excercise for me) and a good meal at the end!

I wouldn't advocate violence, but I sure wouldn't have blamed you for decking the jerk! Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if you didn't have grounds to have him charged for assault (do you have witnesses?), he certainly deserves it! Wow, I'm just flabbergasted, that is so rude, invasive, insensitive, ignorant...

I don't want to be skinny, I want to be healthy... I want to develop a sustainable lifestyle; and that probably means that, at some level, I will have to continue to count calories and exercise for the rest of my life I can probably "wing-it" to some extent but I will have to be conscious of my diet and make deliberate…

I'm sorry to hear that you don't have friends or family to spend Christmas with. But, perhaps this is an oppertunity to make some new friends or help some other people; check out the local soup kitchens or charities and see if they need any help or, if you are inclined, go to a church and talk the minister. Good Luck, I…

Thanks, I ran across this calculator before, I just used it and it estimates ~850 calories, I think I'll go with that.

Interesting, I don't think this is a problem, the "behaviour" of the HRM I observed seemed consistent with my activity, also there were several other people that used the other machines around me throughout the session. If I'd accidently "synchronized" with another sensor I would expect have experienced some anomalous…

Thanks for the comments; here are some answers to some of the questions asked: It is a Timex HRM with a chest strap. The HRM record for the the session gave me an average HR of 147, max of 172, and minimum of 84. Yes I entered my weight, 290 pounds, into the treadmill. The program I used was the "Hill Climbing" one. Most…

You may get paid pretty well for what you do; but I certainly haven't heard that said of most people working in emergency services or the military - they get paid a living wage and I'm sure the supervisors or the commissioned officers or those in specialized trades get paid well, but I doubt the guys and gals on the front…

I usually have 2oz blueberries with my lunch (Vanilla Yogurt+Blueberries+spices) and an apple or orange or kiwi in the afternoon or evening (this is through the week, my weekends are often all over the place
