  • I didn't gain any weight over the weekend even though there is ice cream in the freezer...
  • I would look at zig-zag calorie intake to shake up your metabolism. You have a very adaptive metabolism and it adjusts really easily to lower calorie intake by burning less. This would be great if we were having a famine, but in times of plenty it keeps our weight up. I have found that the only way for me to get the scale…
  • I have been thru this for 50 years, so I know what you are talking about. You will never be 'cured', but you can learn to have a good, happy life by being in control of your self. One of the best benefits of MFP is that it puts knowledge and contol in your hands. Many of us who are 'nervous eaters' do well when we can…
  • It is nice when friends are honest - as long as it is not meant to be cruel. But I don't think it is a defeat - you will always be a big guy - even when you loose the weight. But, now a 20-something chick is noticing you!
  • Welcome Maurice - This site is very helpful if you want to take control of your goals. Here are the secrets to success. First, "friend" many motivated people - they will help you when you get stuck. Second, log your food and exercise - and make sure you share you diaries with your friends. That is the best way for them to…
  • Yes, one pound of muscle weighs the same as one pound of fat - but I think the saying "muscle weighs more than fat" implies that it is by volume. In which case, muscle weighs more than fat. Just sayin'
  • I love my walking - but I found that I was getting a little bored. So, I got my ipod full of audio books. When the 'itimate' scenes start my walking picks up and before I know it I am 2 miles from home with my heart beating good! Hee hee. When I don't walk, I am using the staionary bike - it is easy on my knews and would…
  • I would worry about that low of a calorie intake also - it could really slow down your metabolism and make it harder for you to loose weight. I would try putting in more low-carb, protien - like the chicken - and also put in much more veggies and fruit. You really don't want to slow down your body by doing too low of…
  • I recently broke my plateau that lasted about a month - so I know the frustration you are going thru. I used the zig-zag calories as part of my plan and it worked great. I went a little extreme, but not quite as much as some of them suggest. I actually think the higher calorie days are as important as the lower calorie…
  • It may seem counter-intuitive, but when I am bloated I try to drink more water. That kick starts my body to flush - once it thinks I am not thirsty it doesn't think I need to hoard my body fluids.

  • I have heard that eating out is one riskly option. I checked PF Chang's lunch bowls and realized they considered ONE lunch bowl as TWO servings. Ugh. Look before you go out to eat and be ready.
  • If you want motivation, first fill out your profile so you know why you are motiviated to be here. Second, friend about 20 people who are active and working towards goals - feel free to friend me!. Finally, log in EVERY day and keep track of what you eat. It has been eye-opening for me. You've done it before, and you can…

  • I agree that the first thing you should do is take an iron supplement and pound the water. Then, if you are still hungry, plan your snacks. If you know what you are going to eat and when, it can be easier to avoid bumps or mis-steps. I like Edamame cuz it is filling and you can eat it like popcorn - just munch and munch. I…
  • Hi Hanna - Post a pic - check out profiles - friend folks - cheer them on. It is very much like a community and we all are trying to do the same thing. Good luck!

  • All the numbers here are estimates - but it is simple math. If you are consuming less calories than you burn, you will loose weight by burning stored calories (muscle or fat). I find that I plateau often - and the only way that I break thru that is to change up my exercise routines. Use different muscles in different ways…

  • I will friend you - and be honest with you if you are with me! Deb
  • Wow - that is a big difference! How do you feel? BTW - cute haircut too!
  • No food is good or bad (except chocolate, which is both). I think the idea is balance and moderation. So, find some low fat foods that you enjoy, and some lower sodium foods - and mix them up. Think long term...
  • My best suggestion is to brush your teeth during your morning (or afternoon) break. It is always easier to not eat when you have brushed and flossed. Plus, it satisfies the hand to mouth issue. At least this worked when I quit smoking a decade ago!
  • Hi G - I know exactly what you mean. I just joined a few days ago, so we can start this craziness together. Make a pact to keep honest to this log - nothing more. I put down the Hershey Kisses I ate this morning with breakfast...
  • I just joined the other day, and haven't even had my first progress check - and I do get a little miffed at the time it takes to log in. But then I looked at your milestones and see how far you have come in such a short time and it motivates me! It should motivate you also. Review where you have been and where you are now…
  • Fabulous to know that I have web-friends in the area! Any suggestions for motivation? Don't want to get casual on my first day. I eat lunch out every day and that is going to be my challenge!
