What is the trick? It can't be "peanut butter" without peanuts and those have calories. Heck, even tofu has calories. Is this actual food?

I was looking at your weight chart and think you are doing great! Remember, weight lost in a slow, steady pace is weight that you can keep off - loosing too fast is a recipe for failure. I have a lot of the same problems with exercise that you do - if you would like to chat about strategies and things that work, please…

Start what?

I generally am more successful when I eat back some of my exercise calories. I treat them as my buffer, kind of like 'free choice' time.

If you know where you are going, do a little research ahead of time. Look at the menu online and plan out what you will order or eat - I have often been suprised by what was best when I checked. Especially look at the serving size - even the lunch bowls are often 2 servings so double the calories of what they report.

I don't know if we were talking about this - but it is very funny. This is just down the street from me...

Not so strange - it is always the visuals that shock us into action in the first place. My high weight pic is legend in my family for making people wince! Take all the NSV's you can and bank them...

Thanks muchly! These are great perspectives and good food for thought. And I do love to eat!

Powerful insight - I see myself in your words.

My weight can change as much as 10 lbs in a day. Weigh yourself at the same time of day - that way you can compare one day to the next. Work more on the change in your weight than the hard number - then the scale accuracy isn't an issue as much.

My weight can change as much as 10 pounds in a day - so I make sure to only weigh myself first thing in the morning. That way I can compare - apples to apples...

I think you should shoot for a weight that you feel good at, and not worry about the charts. Set steps along the way, and once you get to one, see if you think you should move on. When you are at the right weight for you, it will feel right, you will feel active and healthy, you will feel sexy in your clothes. Charts,…

I always make sure i have some 'special treat' in the house so that when i have to eat, at least it is something that i have planned in advance. Also, don't ever go to the store tired, or hungry, or mad. Just don't. Ever. Really.

Actually, it is not very intuitive, but I have found that if I don't eat enough, I stop losing weight. MFP already calculates a calorie deficit for you to loose weight. You exercise to burn calories, but also to keep you metabolism going. If your calorie intake is less than approximately 1200 NET (including the calories…

Sometimes I go a little crazy and make bad choices at the store and in fast food places. One thing that has helped me is to NEVER go to starbuck or wendy's or the grocery store when I am hungry. Also, I always allow myself goodies, but I plan them out - so I will plan to have that bowl of ice cream this evening, which…

One thing that I have started to try is to log in calories BEFORE I eat it. There are a lot of things I was going to eat, which I didn't after I checked the calories. It is starting to be kind of fun for me to guess, log, and then eat.

We are all here pursuing the same goal (health) and even if we go about it in different ways, we talk the same language, have the same fears and frustration, and understand each others limitations (to a point, at least ;-)). That makes it easier for us to support each other and be there for each other. I think it's nice.

I like the 'deck of cards' or 'palm of hand' suggestion for portion size, but how much does that weigh? I need the weight to log it in...

You are eating and craving the sugar cuz you feel that you 'deserve' it. I think that the only way that I am able to deal with that feeling is to allow myself the food, but in controlled amounts. If I want a bowl of ice cream, I plan it into my calorie count for the day, then only have one scoop (the first bite is the…

When you eat that little, you metabolism slows down and your body holds onto its weight. You need to let your body know that you are not starving it so it can rev up your metabolism. Eat about 1200 net calories a day, with some days even a little more. It sounds wrong, but it is true. You are not eating enough calories to…

A diet is never sustainable - it is always temporary. Make a change in the way that you view, use, abuse, and think about food. Food is fuel, fun, rewarding, upsetting - but it is not avoidable. Make peace with your food.

A lot of folks loose big the first few weeks - your body is reacting and adjusting to the changes, maybe some of it is water weight. Then it slows down and many people get frustrated and quit. Loosing big the first few weeks is inspiring, but can be a double-edged sword also. When the quick pounds stop and the one pound…

I think any of us who have been fighting weight go thru this. I know it is hard to not be discouraged and frustrated with yourself when you fall down, but you MUST forgive yourself in order to go on. What I do is allow myself a 'bad' day every now and then. It is part of my plan, so it is not a failure. Maybe once every…

I generally like a trim beard. I looked at your pics - yours is definately a keeper. I like it - it suits your smile!

I get the frozen meals - lean cuisine, healthy choice, etc. cuz I am a lazy bunny and will grab things that are most convenient. I love frozen veggies - they actually make a great fast snacks. And don't forget to plan the munchies. Microwave popcorn, rice cakes. And for sweet, I really like the sugar free pudding and…

if you were going by just weight, then maybe...volume is a different story (tablespoons might not work).

Awesome - That is my first goal to work towards! It's funny how everything is relative.

Excellent question - I don't know. I think hundreds would just be noisy, but there are lots who don't show up regularly so they are kinda moot. I think what I am learning is that we are all different and have different needs and limits...

Perhaps you are asking men to be something that they are not. You would not ask a dog to purr - it would just sound like a growl. You would not ask a cat to wag its tail, that only means that it is mad. So don't deny the maleness of men - and don't ask them to be something that they are not. Once you look at them with…
