I USED to do low carb....now those extremes have led me to 3 kidney procedures for kidneys stones too big to pass. Just eat real foods. Sure it takes a little longer but your health is worth it. Doing it to follow your friends sounds like peer pressure to follow the crowd. Be your own individual. I am such a mom. But hey,…

Just eat real food you deserve it. Chemicals, additives, junk. Unless you . Are crunched for time, then there are things you can do for faster nutrition. I drink something and don't feel like it was lunch or dinner. I think psychologically the act if preparing, smelling, cooking, chewing all goes into the process of what…

I used to put down a towel on the equipment that had seats in came people might even have a gripe of sweat through clothing, so it was me, towel, then machine.

Wipe before with the mind set maybe the last person didn't and walked away. Wipe after as a courtesy to the next guy. Just keep a washcloth spritzed in the gym solution with you so you don't have to go back and forth with each new piece of equipment.

Great positive outlooks and suggestions. I really should just let them go and not use them as a crutch or "just in case" because that sets me up for slip ups and bad habits and having the clothes as a safety net is probably causing more harm than good.

Are the 8/10 a goal to work towards to keep you motivated? Maybe that is what I need...a "must have motivational item" our for me to see daily to keep working towards. I may have something, but it is probably tucked away hidden in the back of a closet knowing it doesn't fit so keep it tucked away until it might.

I am trying to do both...Cut calories and chart becoming more conscientious what and how much I eat as well as exercise....it would be neice at certain times have a partner to add some chat and time together to make it more enjoyable. I don't mind exercise but company especially my non exercising overly busy hubby was a…

Mom to 3 kiddos 13, 11, 6, when I eat better, they eat better. We are all more mindful of things. We still have treats, just not as many or as often. My oldest son actually mixed up a snack lain greek yogurt with blueberries and a bit of vanilla extract. I almost fainted!

More of everything...sleep, calories and time.

Awesome progress! Keep going!

[/quote] This is not correct. There are variances, however, those who fall outside the norm are not that far outside with the exception of medical conditions. Also, BMR is NOT what you cut calories from. If you are not losing weight it is not because you aren't eating enough. Keep it simple, pick a number, log as…

did that because I have always exercised 6 days a week since college. I thought that was the proper category to pick since I might not have a job to put me on the move all day long, I do exercise with consistency.
-
no I originally chose exercising 3-5 times a week. I tried to keep it apples to apples for MFP as well as the Harris Benedict formula until today when I knew that 1600 was just too low and the stress of coming in under was making me nuts
-
OMG so now what do I do after reading that? it sounds like a crap shoot...plus with metabolic syndrome and PCOS I do get stuck for weeks at a time. How would I know if it was because my calories were set at too high of a threshold or that my health issues were the thing causing me to stall at losing weight? Grumble Grumble!
-
So how is it that mfp uses NEAT but considers daily living setting me at 1600 calories and Harris Benedict equation gives me 1703? For basic life functions at a lower level than NEAT? Seems like NEAT would be higher caloric requirement no?
-
Thank you 3dogsrunning. So I guess it is ok to eat back my calories? Everyone said leave them as more of a deficit.
-
What is NEAT?
-
There are 2 types of metabolic rates one that involves living in a comatose state and your calorie needs and one that involves day to day life with digestion and exercise levels. I am just getting more confused
-
Once I add in 3-5 times week exercise, even though I usually exercise 6x a week...1703 x 1.55=2639 calories seems like a huge amount...THEN I subtract 500 cal a day to loose 1 lb a week...I am still at 2139 calories. MFP had me at 1600 and I was always hungry! Could this be right? Is this why I was stuck for weeks not…
-
Thanks! So before figuring in calories before activity levels...I am at 1703 calories. Mfp had me at 1600 so now I can eat more once I figured in activity levels?
-
I am going to get a lot of flack for this. I don't think its all calories in calories out. A calorie is a calorie. Not if your body processes and uses those calories differently. I can eat 200 calories of candy or 200 calories of chicken and my body will handle it differently. Especially as a woman with PCOS and metabolic…
-
Interesting! I know 200 seems small but when it's a matter of putting you over 200 calories or under 200 calories, it seems pretty big.
-
I just think I feel too full. We tend to eat later since the kids have sports and clubs so to have a family dinner it is usually at 7 or 7:30 and then bedtime is less than 3 hours later.
-
Well. The plateau is broken and haven't weighed any food and I don't plan to. My husband agreed with me. I am doing what I can eating healthy and stepping up activity all around, whether some people consider it enough or not. I have to do something sustainable and realistic before it becomes something I give up on. I know…
-
So in your logic, my activities are too mundane and not intense enough to be logged? I don't do basketball with my son on. A regular basis, plus if my 55 min hike up hills daily manages to surpasses 55 min of spinning, why shouldn't it count? Where do you draw the line. What if a heavy person can't be intense. So a 5k…

I am at 1600 calories without exercise. I set my goal to lose 1-2 lb a week and I have always been active, just never slim like charts and doctors and insurance riders say I should be for my height. 5'6"

I have been diagnosed with PCOS for over 16 years now. Besides the struggle to have kids, losing weight and being able keep it off is my latest and constant struggle. My A1c and fasting sugars are fine. On metformin , but weight loss as explained by my doctor is three times harder than a person not having PCOS. It's like…

If you don't believe me, then just try it for a week or two. Buy a food scale, weigh out your food. Also, don't use MFP to count calories. If it doesn't have a label, don't eat it (fruit and veggies excluded since raw items are pretty standard in calories). Make sure you are logging accurately. Then if you think we're all…
