  • 10-12 pounds a month is pretty aggressive after your initial success. What has gotten me to where I am is not focusing on a number, but focusing on the process and letting the numbers fall where they may. It sounds like you are doing all of the right things, just keep it up and let the weight come off as it may. Having the…
  • I have been adding regular tap water and a few ice cubes, and I don't have too many clumps. I think the warmer starting water and the added mechanical mixing due to the ice cubes makes the difference. The spring ball helps, but I think the ice cubes help as well. Rob
  • Re: weird. I got the surgeon to take a picture of what he took out. Perhaps it can be a framed picture in my Egyptian tomb.
  • My assumption is that post one year I will be more like a normal person; a sensible caloric deficit will be required to lose weight. That's one of the great things about MFP. The regular forums are chock full of help and advice for those trying to lose through a sensible deficit.
  • I keep my fitbit one clipped to my key ring. I almost always have my keys in my pocket, even at the gym because I drive there. When I played softball, I clipped it to my shorts, and for basketball I will have to do the same. Other than that, on my key ring keeps it from getting to the laundry basket!
  • On the elliptical machine, MFP started well higher than the elliptical's number when I started using it. As I lost weight and increased intensity, the two numbers got pretty close. My assumption is that MFP uses a high weight factor and assumes a pretty high intensity. When I reach goal or start to eat back exercise…
  • I can give you my experience. I entered my program at a BMI of 50.2. They told us as we started the pre-surgery diet that we could not 'lose ourselves out' of the program through successful pre-op dieting. The first weigh in was their start weight. I managed to get my BMI under 40 just before surgery, and the only question…
  • Awesome on both counts!
  • Are you logging in MFP? At the end of your day, look at the macros at the bottom of the log. I would generally see if I got over 100g protein and under 1500 calories. if I did that and I wasn't terribly hungry, it meant I had a good day! If I spent the non-protein calories on carp, I would notice I was much hungrier. My…
  • My program had a similar weight loss target, but went about it in a different way. They laid out the post surgery reality of eating and then set up the pre-surgery diet plan to get used to the habits and behaviors you will need post surgery. It was: 1500 calories 100g protein 64 ounces of water cut out caffeine and alcohol…
  • Welcome aboard! I am newly sleeved (9/30) as well. You have found a really supportive group of people who will be very open about the process and their journey through it. My advice to newcomers is to read a ton, find a group of friends at all stages of the process and add them so you can see diaries and get food ideas. Rob
  • Most of Wednesday I just wore the rubberized socks they gave me. One of my trips was downstairs to the pharmacy to pay my copay for the post surgery prescriptions they delivered to me. For that trip I wore my sandals. I stayed away from sneakers because I wasn't sure I could get them on. I am sure the nurse's aide would…
  • You have been such a huge inspiration to many of us following in your footsteps. I look forward to your second surgiversary and my first! Rob
  • Mine are a boy (16) and a girl (13). They will come around, or they will learn to cook, which isn't the worst thing in the world!
  • Welcome aboard! Use these next two months to hit the presurgery program hard. Get your behaviors and habits to become routine, and exercise will prepare your body for the surgery. Kids are resilient. I cook most of the meals for my family and they survived the transition to more healthy cooking. Your kids (how old are…
  • I am in Michigan but I have HAP. They have been great. I hop your trip through the insurances maze goes well. I would ask about how long they expect you to be in the hospital, ask as many details about the actual procedure as you are comfortable knowing, what to expect afterwards for the first few days. Start a list today…
  • Weighed today. Up 5 pounds from pre-surgery weight. That's a lot of fluids! Not surprising, though. It'll start coming off as I adjust to the new lower calorie level. Rob
  • I would put in a call to your program's nutritionist. He or she will be able to work with you to find a solution. My post op diet is two days (today and tomorrow) of what they call Bariatric Clears, which is aiming for 100g protein mixed only with water or clear broth, Isopure drinks, SF Jello or popsicles and 64 ounces of…
  • Syntrax has a sample pack where they will send you single serve packets of 15 of their flavors for around $15. Nashua Nutrition will sell samples of a ton of different proteins, you pick what you want. Rob
  • Hubba Hubba! Congrats on your success! Rob
  • Don't worry, you're still my favorite! :flowerforyou: Give him my congratulations for busting his *kitten* and working with you so that you both succeed. Not a lot of couples can claim 230 pounds lost. Be proud of your partnership. My wife is a down some as well. hopefully we will end up in a similar spot as you two! Rob
  • Congrats, Donna! It's about time for things to break in your favor. Stay diligent and the date will be here before you know it! We're all rooting for you! Rob
  • I was told 700-900 calories, but protein number is the number one priority. Rob
  • Bummer. Reading through my insurance plan, I didn't see anything about a follow up limit, just a one surgery per lifetime limit unless the second is tied to complications. Good luck. I would have my PCP contact the bariatric doctor and make sure that he/she (PCP) can cover all of the bases. Rob
  • My advice for those in the pre-surgery process is to hit the gym hard. I got to a pretty good shape pre-surgery ans my surgery experience went really well. I attribute it to the exercise I have done prior. Also, buy into your program as fully as you can. I wasn't perfect, but I stayed away from probing the edges of the…
  • Awesome!
  • Contact your insurance approved Bariatric center. Most of them have an orientation meeting, and they will have someone very familiar with your insurance plan. That insurance expert will be able to tell you the realities of your plan and which steps you will need to take. I went the approval process on my own before…
  • I'm still here! I head to the hospital in a couple of hours. I'll let you guys know how it went! Rob
  • Go get it, Ladies! I have my surgery tomorrow and have really hit the pre-surgery plan hard. Primarily, that work reduced the amount I have to lose post-surgery, but I hope the exercise and behavioral stuff will also help me recover and adjust to the new post-surgery realities. Rob
  • Good luck today! I go in tomorrow. Let us know how it went when you get a chance. Rob
