  • I chose the goal weight that my doctor recommended. He actually recommended a range, and I selected the middle of the range.
  • I did love my fitbit very much and I miss it. I've already returned my Force for a refund, but I won't be getting another fitbit replacement anytime soon. I've never had such a reaction to anything in my life and I wore it for months before the reaction occurred, so I'm hesitant to jump in and grab another one of their…
  • Thanks for the tip! I've never had a rash from jewelry before. I'm not overly pleased about being on steroids and creams trying to get rid of this one! Since fitbit recalled the Force, they're sending me a full refund, so at least they've acknowledged the problem. I'll try the bandaid fix you recommended if I have problems…
  • My doctor told me that calorie confusion was important. I get 2 non-consecutive days (I use Wed and Sat) to have more calories. Supposedly it is some sort of wake up call to my metabolism to help my body avoid plateaus. I've only been doing it for a couple weeks, so I have no opinion on it yet, but the doctor recommended…
  • When I want a meal replacement shake, I use the GNC Total lean shakes. They taste good, are filling, and pack in 25 grams of protein. 170 calories per shake, but I don't think that's too bad considering all the protein I get from them. Bear in mind that they are processed, so they do contain 390mg of sodium and 2g of…
  • I tried it and hated it. The amount of supplements they recommended was too much for me and I disliked the taste of the shakes, but I've had friends who did quite well on it. To each his/her own!
  • I took it when it was legal and didn't have any issues, but I was following the instructions and taking only the recommended dosage. Also had to get off ephedra every so often, take a 2-4 week break, and then resume if needed. It's not legal now though, so maybe skip it and try something else. ;)
  • I snack on carrots or banana chips and cashew butter or rice cakes with cashew butter and honey. It packs in the missing calories and makes me feel like I'm getting a little treat.
  • My doctor explained the same thing to me. Simple fact is that shorter people need fewer calories. He spent time going over fact sheets, recommending books to read, and helping me to understand that my body will not go into starvation mode if I eat fewer calories. He also showed me research that indicated calorie confusion…
  • Good article. Thank you for sharing.
  • Agreed! The practice of taking a drink of water between each bite has helped me to slow down my eating and also helps me to feel full. Great tip!
  • I have an "eat up" day where I can eat 1600 calories. It's more calories than I usually eat and it supposedly helps to reset my metabolism (we'll see - just going off what the doctor is saying at this point). I find that it helps me to control myself and not overeat, but I do get to feel like I'm cheating. The program I'm…
  • I put on a lot of weight when I quit smoking too - about 30 lbs. It just piled on and then there I was! You'll get through it. You're in the right place asking for support, so you'll make it. :flowerforyou:
  • It's more of a pose and form thing for me. I find some of the pilates moves difficult, whereas I'm able to perform the weight lifting moves correctly most of the time, with only an occasional correction from my trainer. But to each his/her own. Just depends what you like and what you're comfortable with.
  • You have to log other exercises, which you can do on the fitbit website. As far as estimating calories accurately, I don't know. It seemed to match rather closely with estimates I found on other website. Fitbit also has a phone app to sync with your bluetooth phone, but it's not as in depth as their website. It will give…
  • I struggle with that same thing. It will take about a year for me to get to my goal and when I don't see quick progress, I backslide. I'm hoping MFP will keep me on track. If I'm accountable to others for my progress, hopefully it will help me to stay motivated. Good luck!
  • I don't usually eat my exercise calories. As I work out more, I plan to incorporate more veggie snacking throughout the day to keep the hunger pangs away.
  • I think pilates is more difficult than weight lifting, but that is just my opinion. I alternate so I don't get bored. Some weeks I'm loyal to the Firm weight lifting and stepping, other weeks I prefer pilates or yoga. Right now I'm trying to lose weight, but when I was in your situation, I found that weight lifting was…
  • The health industry is a minefield of varying opinions. Some people thing being vegan is the only way to be healthy, some people think you'll die without meat, some people think calories in vs calories out is all that matters, other people think WHAT you eat is the most important thing. And there is research backing all…
  • I just got an UP24 too and would like to get some teammates. New to MFP and UP24 - need all the motivation I can get!
  • Yes! I loved my fitbit! It syncs effortlessly with MFP, so you won't have any problems there. I found that it motivated me to get my 10,000 steps per day and their website was really awesome. Before I discovered MFP, I logged all my food information there and the site helped me to set goals. MFP is easier because of the…
  • I loved my fitbit force until it gave me a nasty rash or chemical burn (doctor can't seem to figure out how to get rid of it or say with certainty what the heck it is). The website is a great way to stay on track. If you set a weight goal on their site and pick a plan, you get an estimated date of completion. I do like MFP…
