I'm sort of bummed. After my run on Wednesday my right knee got really tight. No pain during the run at all. I can't see any swelling from the outside but the tightness and decreased range of motion must mean that it is there. The knee isn't warm and I'm not in any pain. I've been icing, resting, and elevating when…

Along with what @Need2Exerc1se said, biking might be a good alternative. If you are already at the gym three days a week, yoga or pilates might be a perfect fit for you.

I got two more runs in since my last post. I may have pushed a little hard last night as my right knee is tight today. No running tonight to rest it up and get another run in on Friday. I'm going to scale back to 1.25 miles instead of 1.5. Everything else feels great except my darn right knee.

I've been doing a new chicken recipe that tastes great as leftovers. Now I eat lower carb, higher fat, so if your diet is different you might need to alter. You brine the chicken breasts for 15 minutes-6 hours (your choice of how long, but 15 minutes is enough). You then pat them dry and lay them in a glass baking dish. If…

@Stoshew71 - I'm out of the game temporarily because I'm having minor surgery through the abdominal region on 11/24. Yesterday the doc told me no running until 12/15 but said that walking, stationary bike, and elliptical were great to do after the first week of healing. So I'm focusing on doing well and increasing distance…

Why can't we have ice cream or treats? I eat right around 100 carbs a day and have all sorts of things you listed as having no nutritional value.

Little by little the runs are getting easier. Hoping to add 10% to my distance next week. Found out that I'll be out of the running game from 11/24-12/15. Boo.

Veggies and dip? I am binging on cucumbers with sour cream-based dip these days.

I have a similar problem OP. I have a small rear with a larger mid-section (apply shaped) so things that fit my waist look ridiculous on my rear and thighs. Lane Bryant is a no-go for me. The bum is always too large and it looks ridiculous on me. The best fit I've found so far is Old Navy. And about the size 22 and…

There are other medications that can be given for kidney protection. My husband takes a very small dose of Lisinopril.

After my kids are in bed, so about 8ish at night. I've set my alarm the past few days with full intent to get up and do a morning run--didn't happen. This morning I was planning to again but I saw frost outside and went back to bed instead. I'll run tonight instead.

Thanksgiving menu: turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn souffle, and green bean casserole. Desserts vary. I'm not into pumpkin pie. Christmas: Turkey and prime rib (this is A LOT of work), green bean casserole, sage stuffing, corn souffle, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes and then various desserts (always…

Haven't posted in a few days but got two runs in!

I exercise for fitness and mental clarity. And I only thought I hated to exercise. I realize that I only hated it because of how overweight I was. Now that I am getting lighter and more fit, I enjoy it more because it isn't quite as hard.

I often do feel hungry after a pasta dinner, even if I do add protein and fat to the meal. Most likely it is because I'm eating less than I used to eat, or maybe it lacks a certain amount of fiber? I also get hungry fairly quickly if I eat russet potatoes but not when I eat sweet potato. I do think it is possible for…

I second this. I would set your activity level to sedentary while you learn how many steps you are taking. I'm an educator and I move around the building all the time (and between buildings) but some days I'm still only taking 2,000-4,000 steps while at work. Once you see how many steps you are taking each day, adjust your…

A student kicked me in the right knee (on purpose) and now I'm having post-run pain. I just ordered two compression knee sleeves to help. I'm super frustrated about it, to be honest.

The key is weighing your food, logging accurately, and staying within your calorie goal. Carbs won't make you fat unless you are eating over your calorie goals. I personally have to watch my carbs but only because I'm diabetic. I have found that by losing almost 50 lbs I can get a larger percentage of my calories from…

Went out for another run tonight. Still slow but I'm increasing my distance.

I understand what you are getting at. Honestly, I'm at the point where if I want chips, I just eat the darn chips--I just portion it out. If what I'm really wanting is salty chips, no apple is going to make me feel satisfied. I feel better for just having a serving of what I really want and moving on! I have been enjoying…

Thanks for the warm welcomes :)

:raising hand: Here too. I've noticed that when I allow myself to "sit" back more on my heels, this doesn't happen. It is usually just my big toe on my left foot that likes to fall asleep. The rest of my toes keep up with me ;)

I started at 286 and got down to 260 and then quit. I came back in July 2015 at 276 and as of 10/30/15 I am 234. Slow and steady is the way to win!

During the week we do not eat breakfast or lunch together because the kids usually eat something on the way to school, I eat something once I'm at work and checking emails. We are all at work or school for lunch so obviously we aren't eating together. We eat dinner together about 95% of the time. The exception to that is…

I'm a total newbie to running. I tried to start in July but my right knee wasn't strong enough so I had to build that up over the past few months and I was finally able to start up last week. I'm horrendously slow but I find running to be so mentally amazing for me. Right now I'm working on increasing my distance but I…

I found running socks that wick away moisture at one of those discount stores (think TJ Maxx/Ross/Marshall's). I actually found moisture wicking undies at Target, of all places. They'll do for the time being. And you should be able to find body glide even at some big box stores. I haven't gotten blisters in a while. I…

That's what I'm doing right now! I'm focusing on just increasing the distance of my run but not my speed. Right now I'm also focusing on my breathing because I'm not gasping, but I don't know that I could sing to myself. I'm actually going to try that next time. OP, right now it takes me about 15-16 minutes to do a mile.…

I thought the wiping down the machine was more about killing fungus and bacteria than viral infections. Anyhow, I just carry around the same towel until I need a new one.

I don't ever work out until 7:30 pm or later. I can't fit exercise in until my kiddos are in bed. I have no trouble sleeping after a hard cardio session. I usually get done with my workouts by 9:30 and I go to bed at 11-11:30.

I use a packet every day in my coffee. I think it's just like most other things we encounter--fine in moderation. I wouldn't suggest consuming a pound a day (I'm imagining awful gastro effects), but I wouldn't suggest consuming anything at a high rate. It can be used as a part of a balanced diet easily, and I enjoy it.
