  • Taking it one day at a time. I'm still in my journey, but I'm down 42 pounds. It was harder at the beginning because the changes weren't noticeable to others. I'm at the point now where people are really noticing and I'm having to size down in most of my clothing. That is a big motivation for me. When I'm tempted by…
  • You're right, it doesn't have significantly more fiber and I wouldn't suggest that someone eat brown rice instead of white rice unless they enjoyed it. I eat brown over white because I enjoy it more. The fact that it has a bit of extra fiber, fat, and protein is just an extra. Even if they were exactly the same…
  • For Thanksgiving, well, I'm having surgery (minor, but it's still abdominal) two days before and I'll be restricted in movement (so no heavy exercise) for 1-2 weeks so I'm going to eat at maintenance on Thanksgiving and then at a deficit until Christmas day. I plan to eat at maintenance on Christmas Day as well.
  • Can you open your diary? How long have you not seen movement on the scale?
  • I actually prefer brown rice over white. I like the texture better and the extra fiber and protein with the slower digestion means that brown rice is a big win for me!
  • Wow...you look fabulous! I love how happy you are in the "after" pictures.
  • Your body does not need that much more of everything when you are pregnant, you aren't really eating for two. I was on a carb-restricted diet while pregnant that was monitored by my doctor and a specialist. I also drank caffeine and had GD. By all theories I should have had large children--one ended up being 6 lbs 9 ounces…
  • Hello! I have two sons very close in age. My youngest is 5, my oldest is 6! Eeeek! You can do this!!!
  • Just popping in to say that I found this really interesting. I hadn't seen this before but I enjoy that a teacher really went big to get his students to understand that you can live a normal life (which for many of us includes fast food occasionally) and still make smart choices. By planning and logging meals ahead of time…
  • Is there something else you like aside from water? Or maybe you could increase your fluid intake by eating fruits/veggies with a high water content. I personally just drink 90 ounces while at work. I drink most of that amount when I eat lunch and have my afternoon snack. I also have a job where I talk a lot so I get…
  • Oh, I want to add something. OP, if you are on anxiety medications DO NOT TAKE valerian root. This absolutely must be discussed with a doctor first and can be highly dangerous to mix.
  • I have trouble with terrible bouts of insomnia and also have anxiety. I have been prescribed a sleep aid (ambien) that I take when needed. I've had the same bottle of 30 pills for a year. I use it only when I've had 3 night of horrible sleep in a row (my insomnia is the type where you fall asleep but just keep waking up,…
  • I do both. I hit the gym 3-4 times a week and I do a cardio session (30-45 minutes) and then I'll either do arms or legs and just rotate. Yesterday I did 40 minutes of cardio and then did legs. Tomorrow morning it will be cardio and then arms. But really, you don't HAVE to do cardio or weights to lose weight. You just need…
  • I find that bananas are really helpful for leg cramps.
  • If sodium is concern, what about leaving your meat out of the seasoning and putting a very small amount of seasoning in your sour cream or something so that you can limit that variable? Or maybe skipping the meat and going for veggie tacos instead? I think you could really manipulate some variables here unless seasoning is…
  • Any diet that includes wine sounds good to me!
  • I'm right around 1500. Here is what a typical weekday looks like: Breakfast: Coffee with milk and either Greek yogurt or a banana Lunch: Homemade soup (right now it's either beef barley or chicken noodle), a lunchmeat sandwich in a flatbread wrap or a salad with eggs, red wine vinegar, and feta cheese Dinner: Whatever the…
  • When I need to, I use the fiber that dissolves so you can put it in whatever you need. The other option is to make sure that you are getting enough fiber from fruits and veggies! I find that it helps!
  • Why not continue to eat high fat but eat less saturated fat and more unsaturated fat? Use olive oil for cooking, eat sunflower seeds instead of cheese for a snack, and substitute various types of fish for the red meat.
  • Honestly, I just walk right past the food. Today one colleague brought in muffins and one brought in cookies as a "thank you" and I just don't eat them. My colleagues also respect me when I decline their offer. I'm very appreciative of the gesture, but I usually have a goal of something that I want at the end of the day…
  • So here is something interesting. I just had my IUD out in August because my 5 years with it were up. During those 5 years I didn't have cramps or real periods (as in, very light, not painful). I also had no cravings. After having it out I had my first real period since 2010 with painful cramping and cravings. I'm…
  • That makes me really nervous. I take Metformin and was advised to regular with my meals. Taking Metformin while fasting can create the ideal situation needed for very low blood sugar.
  • I belong to PF. The price is right. There may be a point where I'm interested in doing classes and if that happens then I'll have to find somewhere else. Right now it fits into my very hectic life. Maybe once my kids are older and can stay home alone I'll have more flexibility for a different type of gym.
  • Here too, so for me, too much coffee leads to the above and with the mild diuretic effect I can become dehydrated so I stick to 18 ounces or less daily. This helps me to avoid the bad side effects and it doesn't impact my water intake that I've noticed (going by urine color, that is).
  • Around here finding beef for $3-4 a pound just isn't happening unless the store is really marking it down because the expiration date is the day you are buying the meat. Most of the meat we buy (beef) is between $5-9/lb and that isn't anything fancy or special. It almost isn't worth buying better cuts and making them…
  • @candygibbons26 I have also struggled with appetite while taking Metformin. I truly understand how hard it can be to eat with that medication. Thankfully after about 8 weeks my appetite seems to be normalizing once again. I still have off days though where the medication really interferes with eating. I love chips (crisps…
  • I consume most of my calories between 5:30 and 11 pm.
  • Personally, I'm going to aim to eat at maintenance on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think that having a little extra will help me to feel satisfied and knowing that I stayed at maintenance will keep me on track. Halloween is pretty easy as I'm pretty picky about my chocolate. We usually have the family over for pizza and…
  • But everything is made of chemicals...
