I'm so sorry to hear that, Ken! My spike after my workout was 156. I also just have generally strange stuff going on...like being able to eat a large bowl of ice cream and having a reading of 101 two hours later, or eating pasta and then getting a reading of 96, stuff that would have spiked my sugar a few months ago.…

I will update everyone with the answer I get tomorrow. Honestly, I'm going to be really disappointed if my activity is restricted. Walking is ok, but higher intensity exercise is much more fun for me. I don't it as much for weight loss as I do to help keep my cholesterol, blood pressure, and anxiety in check.

I'll be honest...I'm much more scared of the things that I breathe in every day than I am about artificial sweeteners. I use them sparingly. I also use other neurotoxins daily, such as fluoride enhanced toothpastes. I think that there is a place for these things in our lives--and that place is when the risk of these things…

I just shop sales. I have a hard time with meat and really tend to not like fatty cuts at all. I can't stomach dark chicken or pork chops or fatty beef, so that drives our bill up. I also can't eat things on bones. I know...strange. I've always been this way, even as a small child. Anyhow, I buy from our local store and we…

I exercise regularly not to lose weight, but for health reasons and because mentally, I just feel better.

High insulin is most often caused by insulin resistance. This isn't always the case, but accounts for the great majority. It is highly associated with Type II diabetes and suggests that there is some sort of underlying problem. OP, I suggest that you ask for a referral to a qualified dietitian who can help your daughter…

30 minute dramas are hard to come by! I personally like Bates Motel, AHS, Criminal Minds, etc. I like spooky stuff and crime dramas. I know those are all longer than 30 minutes though. A 30-minute show I can think of on Netflix that isn't a sitcom is The Twilight Zone if you like that sort of thing. Sorry, my taste in…

I've always had curly hair so no difference here! For those having trouble with hair growth...try scalp massages or ditching the shampoo and cowashing.

Which is exactly what I stated. A carb is a carb. The food itself is different due to other nutritional aspects, such a fiber content, protein content, fat content, etc. So if you are concerned with counting carbs, you can't just ignore something because it happens to be fruit. It counts. It's a carb. You can focus on…

I started with walking and used Map My Walk to challenge myself and build up speed and endurance. I did this for three weeks. Now I'm up to the elliptical. I started with averaging about 1.5 miles in 30 minutes and am now between 2.5 and 2.6 miles in 30 minutes. I've been doing the elliptical for three weeks as well. You…

Right now I'm doing leg extensions, calf press, leg press, and seated leg curls to try and strengthen and prepare my knees. Any suggestions of other exercises to add?
-
Thanks so much for the great tips guys! And I promise that before I run I will get fitted at a real running store for shoes and if I have knee pain I'll stop and resume low-impact activities until I can get it evaluated by a doctor.

It's always CICO, but for some, knowing your CO is difficult. I have diabetes and hypothyroidism. Double whammy for that tricky CO part. I do the best I can and I have to be patient and realize that I might have to play around with CI if I hit a three-week period of no weight loss. I also realize that keeping up with…

Thanks for the tips! I've been using strength training for about three weeks to try and strengthen my right knee. I got some tips from a PT I work with. So I'm trying to strengthen my upper legs and the muscles surrounding the knees to take pressure off of the actual knee. I've noticed some improvement in these three weeks…

A lot of city schools (which is where I work) have extremely limited resources. For example, my office is in the old locker room. So I have working showers in here. We have no money.

I have the same sort of restrictions as you as I'm also in education. I like to pack a flatbread wrap. Low carb and I add lots of veggies, cheese, and I do use meat in mine. You can make it the night before and it keeps very well in a lunch back with an ice pack thrown in. No mess unless you use dressings/sauces, which I…

Eat whenever you want. It doesn't matter. I personally try to eat breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, and then evening snack because it keeps me feeling satisfied.

Well really, a carb is a carb is a carb. They're all carbs; however, carbohydrates from fresh fruits and vegetables often contain a fair amount of fiber and can be nutritionally dense. I count all carbs because they're all carbs, whether it is from a strawberry or from rice matters not to me. Some people count net carbs,…

Things can be surprising like that. I have diabetes and autoimmune thyroid disease, but my blood pressure, cholesterol, and resting heart rate are great. I'm 33. So really, it can depend upon so many different factors!

Water, water, and water. Oh, and I make my own facial moisturizer with about 50% rose hip oil, 50% jojoba oil, and about 10 drops of lavender oil in an amber glass bottle with a dropper. You only need to use 2-3 drops of the mixture when moisturizing. If you use oils to moisturize make sure you always cleanse your face…

Congrats! That's really something to celebrate!

You know you love it!

I'm not sure what you mean about causing less hunger just by switching macros. I think that less hunger is more about individual food choices at meals rather than macros alone. At least, that has been my experience. Some days eating LCHF I'm more hungry than others. It has a lot to do with the individual foods I'm…

I want to join!

Thanks! And I agree, that is where problems start. Not one way of eating is right for every person. What's important is finding something that is sustainable and makes your body feel great. For me, that is LCHF, for someone else, it could be completely different. I just want people considering LCHF to be realistic. There…

Congrats!

You're right--weight loss is about the calories, not in how we get those calories in. I also make that very clear in my responses about eating LCHF. I don't want anyone to feel that shifting macros is going to cause some miracle to happen. But people do need to understand that shifting macros can make a difference for…

I truly wonder if the in-fighting would go away if we did have better access to informed doctors--doctors who are willing to treat us as individuals and realize that what works for one might not work for me! I'll be honest--I've given up ever feeling rested. I've been battling Hashi's since I was 11 and I've just resigned…

I will sometimes make batches of soup and freeze in individual servings. I did beef barley veggie two weeks ago. I also like wraps with turkey, cucumbers, provolone, and baby spinach.

Personally, I always disclose that I have Type II diabetes because people who do LCHF can get such negative responses, as if we are idiots who have bought into everything Dr. Oz (or any other highly publicized "health guru") says and have no ability to think for ourselves. Or that we demonize carbs. Or that we think that…
