yeah, add something new and challenging to your exercise regimen! It will also give you that feeling of accomplishment. Also, this may be weird but my nutritionist told me that not only should I try to avoid eating carbs that don't contain a lot of fiber, when I do eat these fiber-containing carbs I should be eating them…

prepping food for the week ahead of time over the weekend: grill some proteins, cook some veggies, some grains, make a frittata, a pot of soup, etc. things that you can throw together to create new meals are great to have. Don't give up anything or tell yourself to do anything that you won't be able to do forever. Cutting…

yep. Keep going. Also, I see slow loss over a long time as the best option. If I get "diet fatigue" I stop and work on maintaining/not gaining/keep exercising/make healthy choices for a few weeks. I rarely lose more than a pound a week...most weeks it is much less but I realistically do not see myself sticking with this if…

I had a herniated disc a few years ago and try to be mindful of maintaining a strong core. I started with a lot of exercises on my back on the floor, like glute bridges, leg raises dead bug, starting a workout with 10 big diaphragmatic breaths helps. Just keep squeezing those abs and glutes! I really like this exercise…

huh, this looks interesting. how expensive is it?

@ hortensehildegarde take a cab to Lotus of Siam--it is worth it! Really amazing. You need reservations on the weekend, it gets packed, and some weeknights too. If you want to go with people, maybe post on chowhound or something and see if anyone wants to join you? Or if you're going to Vegas for an event, maybe some…

tortilla soup or the chili, minus any sour cream they are trying to put on there. fajitas are probably not too high in calories but the thing to watch here is likely portion size. The chili would probably be enough for me. These kind of restaurants are also salt bombs so drink a lot of water or unsweetened ice tea. The…

I always get a flu shot. My parents' next-door neighbor died from flu when she was in her early 50's! It's no joke.

I usually meet or exceed the MFP default amount for sodium by about 1/3 a few times a week, even with a diet low in processed foods because I LOVE salty food so I regularly eat olives and pickles, put salt in my food, cook with asian ingredients like soy sauce, miso, sriracha, etc. There is even sodium in bread, cheese,…

yep, it is terrible to tell someone--"oh, you lost weight!" only to find out it's because they have been sick or something. I think that keeps people from saying anything about weight loss.

I've found that the biggest help in lowering high blood pressure has been exercising and eating less processed foods/msg/cured meats, etc. I went from having high blood pressure to healthy normal blood pressure in 6 months without medication--just diet and exercise. I also quit smoking, which I think was probably very…

I had a disc herniation so yeah, was taking it (super) slow. The pain was the worst thing I have ever felt in my life, like when I started trying to walk again I would cry from pain. I probably could have squatted sooner but I was straight up scared, like terrified to mess up my back. My trainer had to literally hold my…

I get so bored doing cardio so instead of plodding along on a machine for 30 minutes, I space out cardio bursts throughout my workout. I always start with 7-10 minutes on the bike or treadmill while doing bicep curls with free weights every other minute. It's sort of like interval-type training style. Then I go stretch, do…

I used to not be able to do squats at all, had that feeling of terror because I was really just too weak in most parts of my body to hold my 250 pounds of weight up with mainly my glutes. Even now I prefer to do squats over a low weight bench so I feel secure that I am really doing a sitting type motion. I started with…

I've had trouble finding this one too. I just do it and don't log it. A lot of ab exercises I learned from my trainer aren't in MFP or I can't find them. I sometimes log 10 minutes ab exercises=5 mins of moderate intensity aerobics. I am experimenting with not even logging exercise or eating back calories to see if it adds…

I eat some kind of super dense whole grain health bread in the morning (like it is not fluffy at all and 100% stuff like spelt and oats) with hardboiled eggs and vegetables and sometimes even a small piece of turkey sausage. Morning is my hungriest time of day and I eat a full 1/3 of my calories for the day at breakfast.…

awesome! Lifting is so great, it makes me feel so strong and confident. I've been at a standstill with the #'s on the scale for a month but I am still losing inches of fat all over me so yeah... go us :)

Please make sure you are getting good medical care, from a doctor who is up to date on the latest Diabetes treatments. Everyone is different but you may not need insulin--my mom has type 2 and her new doctor lowered her insulin injections and she lost almost 60 pounds in a year. The insulin was making her hungry and…

just eat a complex carbohydrate, wasa crackers are super good, as is some kind of spelt bread like ezekiel, or keep already cooked whole grains in the fridge in like a pilaf style--for example, wheat berries, quinoa, kamut, freekeh, or barley mixed up with caramelized onions, fresh herbs and maybe a handful of dried…

yeah, I always get the munchies way worse with alcohol than with weed, it is one of the reasons I don't drink very often. I'm not in college though...good luck! LOL, but seriously. Carry healthy snacks with you. A small apple, a protein bar, etc will help stave off eating a ton of junk. Even junk food is ok in moderation,…

just cook your own lunch meats. Some grilled chicken, slice roast beef. You can marinade and season it how you like. Then you can eat it on sandwiches and in salads. It is a lot healthier and more affordable. I make chicken salad with yogurt.

I get that sometimes! I agree on the carb thing, unfortunately. If I eat a veggie and protein dinner with no carbs, I get the still hungry thing. A slow-burning grain serving ends the feeling, especially if I worked out I need a complex carbohydrate. Whole grain wasa crackers are good, I eat them with peanut butter and…

I actually do try to have a small healthy snack before I go to these sorts of things, a bit of lean protein and fiber to take the edge off hunger so I am using my brain about food choices. Then I can have a little bit of everything I want to try but I actually stop when I am full. If I go hungry-- game over, I will…

yes, choose whole grains because they are more nutritionally dense, high in fiber which is good for heart health and they keep you full longer--think a slower burn of the energy they provide :) I love Ezekiel bread, it's with sprouted grains, low glycemic index and I think it's delicious. You can find it at the store in…

Lot's of good ideas here. I'd add that it is worth it to buy the best produce you can. Find a farmer's market and your produce will be fresher and tastier-- really makes a big difference :)

I love tastespotting.com most of the stuff there isn't healthy but there are totally gems and inspirations to be found.

If you are going to pay for a trainer, definitely research them first and make sure they have certification from a reputable place like the American College of Sports Medicine. A lot of gym ones are kinda meh, imo. I do not respond well to "bully" trainers who think if you want to lose weight you also want to undergo some…

Fruits and vegetables that are seasonal, locally grown and purchased from a CSA or from a farmers market taste sooooo much better than factory farmed produce from 1000 miles away. Buying this kind of produce makes it much easier/tastier/more enjoyable to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and you don't have to add flavor…

they go great with soft goat cheese. A mushroom, sweet potato goat cheese quesadilla would be good.

juicer can be great for making stuff to cook with, like ginger juice for stir frying or salad dressings. My friend recently juiced fresh corn and then reduced the juice by cooking in a saucepan on low heat and made amazing pasta sauce with it. Too much fruit juice can be high in calories even if you juice it yourself.
