I find chewing gum helps with cravings and holds me over until I am really hungry. So yes, it has helped me lose weight. But be careful with gums that contain sorbitol becuase you can OD on sorbitol (which causes IBS and lots of other illnesses).

Yes, it is definitely more difficult to lose those last 10-15. My ideal weight is around 118. The longest I've been able to keep it that low is only for a few months and then when I become careless, then it goes back up.

I live alone so I NEVER buy my trigger foods. I have the same problem when I go home or out. I actually just tell everyone to keep the cookies AWAY from me. You can tell your family to hide them and ask them not to eat them in front of you. Opt for a huge glass of cold water or gum, they both usually help me!
