  • Insulin resistance is a common side effect of PCOS, as is increased weight gain. Weight loss helps with insulin resistance. Why not use metformin to help get someone's weight down so they have fewer problems with insulin resistance? It's not magic but it is effective in this case.
  • What doctors have you worked with? I've had four separate endocrinologists in two states, as well as my PCP, happily prescribe me metformin and I wasn't doctor shopping to find these docs. Hell, they recommended the drug. They all recognized that my PCOS was interfering both with my weight and my period's regularity. For…
  • This is 100% a question for a medical professional, most likely your oncologist and surgeon. I don't think any of us have the expertise to give you that sort of specialized advice.
  • I'm at the same calorie count. It takes a little while to get comfortable at that place. People are telling you not to worry and that it won't set you back, but I feel the same way. • I have a plain old plastic nondigital scale. I'm sure it's off a little bit but at the same time, it does a pretty good job of doing what I needed to. I use it constantly and it helps me establish things that don't have an obvious serving size that I can ascertain visually, such as a piece of brie. I also use measuring…
  • I have found that a slow drip of relatively low-calorie foods over the course of the day can make a huge difference in my hunger. The secret to my success apparently for the last few days has been wasabi peas. A lot of them are one serving and because they are spicy, you end up drinking a lot of water.
