  • Excess calories, which came with mindlessly consuming large portions and eating refined carbohydrates (which lead me to feel hungrier and continue mindlessly consuming large portions).
  • Logging recipes when the recipe list is in imperial but your actual ingredients are in metric. I have no idea what 3 oz of peanut butter is, but I could easily measure out 25 g. There ends up being too much math involved. This goes for calculating what 400 degrees is with a metric oven.
  • I'm skinny fat. Almost at my weight goal but still looking pretty soft (even though I have a healthy BMI). Last time I had my body fat measured, I was at 34% (although that was 7 lbs ago, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still above 30% now). I have always been soft, even at my lightest. I used to be so obsessed with the…
  • Thanks everyone for your input. Would you suggest me to therefore eat at a smaller deficit, but add in more strength training? I am currently eating around 1300 calories a day and only doing walking/yoga for exercise. I make sure I eat plenty of protein as well (at least 60 g a day), but could I be eating more? Thanks!
  • I trusted the accuracy in the scales that my personal trainer used, although I admit that I had only taken my BF measurements using that particular scale. This scale had me hold onto a bar (attached with a cord) while standing on the scale. Below are some photos of me that were taken when I was 68 kg. They're not the best…
  • Originally from Cambridge (an hour south of Toronto), but currently living in Auckland, New Zealand
  • *raises hand* It's part of the reason why I avoid it. I feel like I just don't belong there. I know that's not true, so I have to change my way of thinking
  • I'm a "former" success story, but hopefully will be back to that state soon enough! The first picture was my heaviest at 160 lbs (72 kg), back at Christmas 2009. I since lost the weight and in the summer of 2012 weighed 128 lbs (58 kg). Currently at 134 (61 kg) and trying to get under the 130 (59) mark.
  • I have so many friends who have graduated from Teachers' College and are having trouble finding work. Most of those friends had to move overseas to teach English. I grew up in southern Ontario and only recently moved abroad. I definitely miss living in Canada at times, but if I ever come back, I will settle out West. I…
  • I suffered from general anxiety disorder while as a teen and young adult. I was put on Cipralex and it made me gain 30 lbs. I'm not sure if it was the medication that caused the weight gain or just my lifestyle (a combination of stress, over-eating, and consuming too much caffeine), but it was horrible. When I think of it…
  • Thank you :) I totally agree with the relationship weight gain. It's funny how that works. I had lost 30 lbs and put back on 15 when I met my partner (just a mixture of comfort, dining out more, and eating larger portions). Losing 10-15lbs would put me back to that weight that I was when I first met him
  • I'm also February 2016! Just getting the process started as these next 12 months will just fly by. Looking to lose 10 lbs so I can look and feel my most confident on that very important day.
  • Thanks everyone! :)
  • I have this problem too, and it makes me feel like a horrible person for having these thoughts. I also find that the more weight I lose, the more obsessed I become with being thin. These are obviously not healthy thoughts, and I know they need to change.
  • When I was at my heaviest weight, I would eat heaping bowls of pasta with liberal amounts of cheese for dinner. Breakfast would be a double-toasted bagel with butter and a large coffee with two sugars and two creams (roughly 600 calories). Before hitting the books at uni, I would buy cookies and another large coffee from…
  • If my daily calorie intake can reflect 30/30/40 carbs/fat/protein, then it's a good day. But I have found 30/40/30 far easier to maintain.
  • My partner and I spend around NZ$130 (around $96 US) a week on groceries, but we buy mainly fresh produce, meat and very few packaged foods. That's under $5 NZ per meal/snack. This works well as we normally feel full and satisfied enough to avoid buying lunches and snacks on our way home from work. Dining out is extremely…
  • I sometimes have this problem too. It helps not going into the break room, but that's unavoidable if I need to top up my coffee. A way I can stop myself from eating office treats is packing my own snacks. I pre-log for the day, and unless I have some extra calories leftover, I don't eat any treats. However, sometimes…
  • This is a good mindset. I'm really trying to tie physical activity into my daily routine, but my lazy mind and lack of willpower gets the best of me. If I can just make a truce with myself that I must do it everyday for just a month, then maybe it will become a habit and stick
  • 5'3" and 135. First aiming to get below 130, then ultimately be 125. Add me :)
  • I sometimes eat peanut butter by the spoonful. I have also done this with jam, Nutella, and yes, cake frosting. My proud moment is not consuming the entire container.
  • They sound like a good substitute if you love pasta, but I would say you could find more nutrient-rich substitutes to use. Using vegetables as noodles (spaghetti squash, zucchini ribbons, minced cauliflower) might end up being cheaper and healthier, especially if you have to fry the noodles in order for them to taste…
  • Ugh, I know! My partner and I splurge way too much on groceries in order to eat healthily. If we lived off of packaged food and low-grade meat, our grocery bill would be literally half of what it is now :\
  • As a Canadian abroad, I'm happy that Nanaimo Bars aren't around either. Too bad I just discovered a deli a few blocks away that does poutine and freshly made bagels....
  • Yes, likely that. Plus, it might depend on your body. Everyone loses weight differently. Your arms may be the last place where you lose fat. I know this is the case with me, as well as with my stomach. When I lose weight, my neck and chest are usually the first to slim down, followed by my hips, butt, and legs. Stomach and…
  • I have a bit of a problem with this as well. When stressed or annoyed with something, I feel tempted to head to the pantry. I have managed to avoid it most of the time by making myself a cup of coffee or tea and distracting myself (watching TV, going for a walk, painting, etc). I also get really stressed out at work and…
  • I sometimes get annoyed that I seem to be the only person in the room who has to take the time to measure everything and visualize portions. I think that's more related to envy that I can't eat like a "normal person", and people who aren't dieting don't need to over-think what they're eating. However, when I'm alone and…
  • I know what you mean. I had this a few times in the past and it would make me so mad as they would still eat my food. I find packing my own food and getting out of the house helps, just so I'm away from all of it. Also try putting your healthy stuff in a bag and tie it. If it's separated from the rest of the food in the…
  • I agree with what others are saying. I tried establishing rules while travelling to new countries and trying new things, but halfway through I ended up throwing in the towel because I felt too restricted. In the end I would gain numbers on the scale, but most of it would be in water weight. Any real weight I gained would…
  • Food in Canada is overall more expensive than in the States, but I still agree with this statement. After living in both Korea and New Zealand, I took prices in North America for granted. Quality of life and food in NZ is much better, but ouch does it ever hurt your wallet.
