  • That is me every g-d weekend this summer (except add a lot of booze). I'm getting back on track though. I need to (I've gained 20lbs since the end of May). We just bought ourselves "Make It Paleo" yesterday (200+ recipes), so that's boosted our motivation and we're excited to try the new recipes. I've also started going…
  • I have the opposite problem - I love meat too much. And it's expensive. I also feel the treatment of animals in factory farms is deplorable, and by eating as much conventional meat as I do, I feel I'm supporting it. So I'm trying to fit in more veggies and cut down on my meat eating as well. I'm also trying to limit my…
  • Yup - I used to frequent the boards fairly regularly but it was too stressful, haha. Now I'll go to look into fitness boards a bit and get/provide advice for lifting, but I stay away from nutrition. I hadn't been on this forum in a while either - glad to hear some of the success stories in here :)
  • That is actually very interesting. Thanks for the information.
  • I recommend you re-visit your stance on saturated fats. Before recently, saturated fats were a staple in our diets and CVD and obesity were nowhere near it's current levels. Only in the 1950s and 1960s did people start replacing their butter with margarine and other vegetable oils. You disagree that snacking doesn't boost…
  • Where do you get your sources from? I'd like to see you back most of what you're asserting as fact here. - "it's better to eat breakfast because, as the name says, it breaks your fast" - how is that a reason? - "it is better to go from big meal to small meal" - Why? I don't think that's true. - "lentils are good because…
  • They are high in sugar and, for some, that could impede weight loss. 3/day seems like quite a bit, but if it's working for you, keep it up. If you're having difficulty losing weight, maybe look at dropping to 1 or 2 per day to see if it helps at all. Personally, I do best when I limit my sugar and carbs, so I eat them…
  • Great article - shared with my wife.
  • Definitely feel free to add me. I'm not a girl, but I do lift. And I've been Paleo for 3 years now - just finished the Whole30 Tuesday (so I wasn't tracking and I do have a couple cheats from the past couple days to make up for lost cheating, lol - so no judging my dary :P. But I'm back on the wagon as of this moment!) Had…
  • Not a woman, but totally normal when you start lifting. One thing I've found important is to watch my food intake a little more closely if I'm lifting. I find that I get hungrier since my body is trying to build some muscle and if I'm not prepared by having healthy food handy, I will often eat crap which prevent…
  • OMG - that looks amazing.
  • Awesome! Great job both of you! Those are crazy losses! Congrats! I also wish I had measured myself. My belt this morning didn't fit anymore so I know I'm significantly smaller (I was using a different belt for the past couple weeks). I lost 11lbs total, but ate later last night and was a little bloated this morning. Like…
  • Haha - ya, I've already got plans for a couple beer and wings (dry) tomorrow. Thinking I'll be sticking as close to Whole30 as possible. My big thing will be minimizing my booze.
  • Ya, we're all about leftovers. Every night we make a big batch of food for dinner and just bring leftovers for lunch.
  • Ya pretty nuts for sure! Definitely looking forward to Day 31 though! This is perfect beer weather and I'm missing it! haha Otherwise it hasn't been too too difficult though! I also feel good and am sure I'm down a few pounds! :)
  • Woo! I've been away quite a bit but I'm still hanging in there! Day 17 today. In two weeks, I can have a beer!
  • I'm doing fairly well. Like you I wouldn't say there's anything magical about my energy levels, but I do feel pretty good.I have found this past week I have been craving junk food a little bit more, but that might be because I've been around it a little bit more too
  • Hadn't had one in a while but I did last night again. Such a depressing feeling haha. Thank good I have more willpower in real life :p
  • Just started my first Whole30 last week. I'm undecided. I don't like the idea of logging food for the rest of my life and I'm liking the freedom of not logging. However, the question then becomes, can I eat well consistently and not fall off the wagon at all. If I stick to 95% Paleo, I should have no problem not logging,…
  • Yup, very similar to bacon, but very thin and salty. You should be able to find it at basically any grocery store. Usually it's around the salamis and special cheeses and stuff like that.

  • Ya, stay away during the Whole30. There are very very few bacon options out there andyou'd have to go to specialty stores to find it from what I understand. It's good for after though. I usually don't stress too too much about it outside the W30 (I have 3 packs of bacon in my freezer awaiting the end of the 30 days). I was…

  • Only Day 6 but going well! You should join the group: "Whole30 April 15, 2013". It's actually all sorts of people who joined it in April (not just April 15). I'm doing it with my wife. It's been going well so far. The no booze is the tough one for me. Dairy too. The no tracking and weighing is also kinda weird since I'm…
  • Me too actually! Though I couldn't find sugar-less bacon so I bought prosciutto instead. I don't have it fully planned for the week, but we hit up the grocery store after work yesterday to grab stuff to make: - Almond breaded fish and chips (sweet potato), with a guacamole salad (last night - was super good!) - PB&J…
  • Just really discovered hashbrown parsnips this morning. Oh man were they good. Just grated them and sauteed them in coconut oil (with some cinnamon sprinkled on top). Sooo good. Will have to try parsnips fries soon.
  • I think education has more to do with it than finances. With that said, making a nice healthy meal for a family is more expensive than putting together some kraft dinner or cooking a frozen pizza you got on sale, so it's not surprising that the poor gravitate to those types of convenience foods. I agree 100% that being…
  • That's a great way to think about it. Usually, when we do something like this, my wife and I reward ourselves with something terrible (Pizza Hut and DQ?) lol. She asked me earlier today what I'd want to reward myself with. We're thinking of doing some homemade sushi or Paleo-pizza instead - which is definitely better! (I…
  • Depends what your goals are and what you do in terms of physical activity. I think the above is a good recommendation, but I'd probably up the protein a bit (25% is usually pretty good). I generally aim for 30-35%.
  • Feel free to add me (been 3 years Primal). I'm not tracking food right now since I'm doing a Whole30, so you won't really get much from my diary, but I'll be around if you have questions or anything. :) As shar said, it's tough at first to wrap your head around fat not being bad, but trust me, it works. I usually do my…
  • Keep us updated on how it's going for you. I personally find it kind of liberating. It's hard to take my mind away from it sometimes ('oh I wonder how my macros are. am I eating too many carbs? enough protein?, etc). but I think it's good for me not to stress over that stuff too too much. Same thing with weighing myself.…
  • Yes. Absolutely. It's no accident though haha. I'm just terrible on the weekends. I have such a hard time with booze and junk food haha. Not exaggerating, I'm probably 4-5 lbs heavier on Monday than on Friday. I've literally gone up 8-9lbs in a weekend.
