I think lot of it depends on the circumstances of your becoming friends. If you're both single when you guys meet then there's a much higher likelihood that he's wanted more at some point (and if you're still single, I'd wager he'd still be interested). With that said, for the most part, I think that guys will still…

You want to lift as you lose weight. It helps you maintain your muscle which is key to being able to sustain the weight loss by keeping your metabolism running well. https://www.t-nation.com/diet-fat-loss/a-calorie-is-sometimes-not-a-calorie From article: There's a study to illustrate the point [...] two groups of obese…

BMI is really not that good of a measure. It's just as good as focusing on weight. It doesn't give any indication of muscle vs fat.
-
BF is never really accurate. I'd say give it more time. Make sure you're lifting heavy and getting enough protein. You don't want your body eating away at your muscle.
-
It's always tough as the summer hits, you get together with friends, drink some beer and eat bad food. I'm back on and tracking. For me food-wise, it shouldn't be too difficult, but it's the beer i have trouble with.

I would seriously up those calories - especially if you're not eating back all your calories most of the time. Yes, you would lose weight eating that much, but it's likely doing a number on your metabolism and you're likely losing a lot of muscle mass losing weight that fast. Once you start eating normally again, it won't…

I don't think it's unhealthy. It's better to eat the whole fruit or vegetable, but if you can't eat enough for whatever reason, I think you're fine juicing. I made a juice this morning (first time in months). I had a bunch of veggies and herbs that were starting to go bad so I figure I'd juice it up with some apples that…

Also another incredibly effective way to increase your BMR is lifting heavy and doing interval training. Give up on the slow steady cardio and move to lifting weights and doing sprints. You'll see a huge difference.
-
Agreed- What you eat has a considerable effect on your hormones, which also affect your BMR. It also make a big difference in terms of satiety and long-term sustainability. If person A eats 1500 calories of food that fill him up and keep his metabolic rate elevated and person B eats 1500 calories of food with little to no…

Sorry to hear your marriage is breaking down but I highly doubt it's food's fault. (I've heard Paleo bashed for a number of things but breaking up marriages is a first) Eating a more paleo diet is a great way to get more nutrition out of your food. My wife and I have done it for 4 years now and love it. We're not 100% but…

But that's where we differ in opinion. In a sense, she is losing weight because she's eating clean. Eating all that junk, it's easy for her to get to 2000+ calories. Cutting that out and eating real food makes it much harder to overeat. Yes, at the end of the day, she's eating fewer calories, but it's because she's eating…
-
I guess that lies in one's definition of eating clean (which I think is what many are arguing here - people just use 'eat clean' and it really doesn't mean anything, or at least means something different to everyone). Mine is eating plenty of meat, vegetables, and fruits. Yours is eating plenty of homemade baked goods. I…

Ya, I honestly think those people are lying to themselves. I can't imagine overweight people not being able to eat 1200 calories. That or they've starved themselves for so long that their metabolism is so damaged that it's barely burning anything.
-
And I'm sure I need to eat much more than you as well. Give me a big steak, and some stir-fried veggies and I'd be full until dinner at fewer calories than that little McDonald's meal. You don't drink soda. Does that make it easier for you to lose weight? Would it be impossible for someone to lose weight if they had soda?…
-
Because I can and you get better value by ordering a large fry. I'm not saying that you can't lose weight if you eat McDonald's regularly. I'm saying that it's much easier if you're eating real food. 6 McNuggets, a medium fry, and a medium coke is 860 calories; eating that, I would be starving 2 hours later. That is not…

I did a calculation on McDonald's site. An angus burger, a large fry, a milkshake, and a turnover are 2730 calories (more than I generally net in a day). I could eat that. I'm not saying I wouldn't be full. I would be, but I could eat it without much of a problem. I'm also not saying you must 'eat clean' to eat at a…

The difference is the calorie deficit is a result of eating clean. If you're eating to satiety and eating 'dirty' you'll eat a lot more than if you eat clean. In the end, there is a caloric deficiency and that's why the weight is lost but it's not a forced deficiency and that makes a huge difference. People only have so…

Some decent stuff. There is definitely some truth to the thermostat analogy but I think that there is more that can be done to lower that set point which she thinks is a lost cause. As she said, if you're hungry and not eating, then you will have some problems in the long-term because your body is telling you it needs to…

Feel free to add me. I've been doing it for about 4 years. I'm not particularly strict (ex: last night, my wife and I went out for only the second time since we had our daughter, I drank and ate a bunch of things I shouldn't have. I aim for the 80% pretty much and have settled into my own Primal lifestyle. I also still do…

Ya, it's a squat rack. You can curl anywhere in the gym. You can't just pick up a bar and start squatting. Why use up a highly sought after piece of equipment to do your curls in? If I had to resort to the leg press or smith machine squat because someone was curling in the squat rack, I'd be upset.

I'm not judging - people can eat whatever they want. If you want to have a piece of cake and it fits into your lifestyle - that's 100% cool with me. I sometimes enjoy having a piece of cake. I feel that this is the problem. People assume that because I'm not having cake because I prefer not to it for my health, I'm…
-
I never understood this mindset - there is nothing healthy about cake. Why are people against labeling foods as unhealthy? Someone who eats a whole-foods based diet with no cake will be healthier than someone who eats a whole-foods based diet and regularly has cake as well. It's not a knock on someone who eats cake. For…

I'm saying that people should be allowed to eat how they want without being accused of having a disorder. Is there such thing as orthorexia? Probably. But to me it would have to be *extreme* and they would have to be physically or mentally damaging themselves to get to that point. This thread, however, is full of people…
-
What if I don't want to eat cake because it's garbage and I'd rather not eat it. Cake's not healthy and I'd most often rather eat nothing than eat cake - even if I was hungry. Does this mean I have a disorder? Just because someone offers me something to eat, it doesn't mean I have the social responsibility to eat it. It's…

It blows my mind how true this is. I have my dad's wife's son is cleaning up his eating and exercising. He used to be obese and is slimming down considerably. They were all over for dinner a few weeks back (and we're usually big drinkers). He decided he wasn't going to be drinking since he saves it up for bigger occasions…

I think you're doing an excellent job. I don't see the big deal in labeling food as good/bad (though healthy/unhealthy might be better). Cookies and candy bars are unhealthy. There's no need to ever have them in your house. I'm not saying they should be forbidden from eating certain foods, but there's absolutely no need to…

It's a username my cousin and I had invented when we were teenagers (probably 15 years ago) - we were trying to register for a hotmail account and everything was used and we somehow came up with 'fufonzo'. I've been using it ever since because I know it'll never be taken (and if it is, I know that it's because I've already…

Ya, I doubt he's saying you're dating someone hotter than you. 1 - trading is giving up something for something else. 2 - unless that's just an incredibly flattering picture of you, it's very unlikely that a drunk guy would think that your boyfriend is better looking than you by a big enough margin to make a comment. (Guys…

It's funny how in these discussions, the "calories are the only thing that matter" people always neglect the calories out part of the equation and assume that what you eat has no impact on caloric expenditure. Your metabolism plays a big part in the caloric equation and the types of food you eat and exercise you do have a…
