I don't want to see allowing myself to have a particular food as a "treat" since to me I think that would help towards a negative relationship with food. I allow myself to have whatever I feel like but I make a conscious effort to have suitable portions which is where I used to fall. My actual treats come in the form of…

Yeah 17 was quite late for it to come on, but even if Type II is becoming increasingy common in younger years it would still be considered even rarer for me to have caught Type II at that age compared to Type I. I knew my diet wasn't based on high GI foods to build up insulin resistance that quickly for me to have had Type…

Not quite certain, I was certain. Family friend had a BG monitor which I checked myself on. With a reading of 27mmol, and all the other symptoms alongside, I knew I was diabetic. Autoimmune diseases ran on my dad's side, type 1 being there, so I knew I had some hereditary predisposition. I didn't have to insist to be…

I self-diagnosed myself as type 1, went straight to A&E and told them to sort me out, ie. give me the meds, the birds and the bees of diabetes. If I had waited for a doctor's appointment there would be a chance of going comatose.
-
Yes I do, as my beta cells decided to quit. Here is my bounty, I had more monitors but I decided to send some extras to Africa. OP seems to have been scared off, but I would suggest returning to doctor's to see if there is another way they can assess what is wrong with your body rather than going on a week on week gluten…

lmfao are you seriously trying to tell me that I'm not a Type I diabetic?
-
Because I noticed something wasn't right with myself with all the corresponding symptoms, I got a blood glucose monitor, tested myself, found out it was buttload high and went to A&E telling them I was now diabetic and they needed to sort me out. I self-diagnosed myself rather than waiting for a doctor's appointment or…

I understand that, and sorry about the autoimmune party you're having, I'm hoping that nothing else comes my way though MS seems to run in the women on my dad's side. What would you do if you were in OP's shoes?
-
I self diagnosed myself with Type I Diabetes, did I not have that until it was professionally diagnosed? Because the 27.2mmol reading on a BG monitor, falling asleep after every time I ate, the stone weightloss in a few weeks, the constant peeing, the constant thirst, the thrush etc all suggested otherwise. My friend was…

I second what was mentioned earlier, get a slow cooker. Twenty minute food preparation, 8 hours cooking whilst you get on with work etc, meal +X other portions depending your ingredient load and portion sizing, freeze.

I weigh everything meticulously so I rarely find this to be an issue. Good luck with your endeavours, I understand having OCD can be a frustrating condition.

That doesn't include the milk. The two sachets come to 200kcal, but then with around 160ml of milk per sachet (I have the same sachets and measure my milk every morning, ranges from 150ml to 180ml) - if this was 1% fat milk this would increase that 200kcal guess to 340kcals or so. Pointing out this one remarkably incorrect…

Is anyone else amazed at the gap size between the lower pelvic region and his genitalia?

The first paragraph is irrelevant for Type 1, also OP has already mentioned they are working with a doctor to stabilise blood sugar so second paragraph is unneeded. It can be very easy for someone who doesn't understand type 1 diabetes to say: "go to you doctor and work with them to stabilise your sugars". We know to do…

Skittles and pepsi an excellent go to for a type 1 diabetic who is suffering from a hypoglycemic attack. Fast acting sugar is paramount for an individual to have that boost to getting a more lasting sugar source. From your post I can tell that you aren't a diabetic so I don't blame you for not understanding what having a…

This is one of the things I struggled with in the beginning, particularly when I introduced exercise - hypos EVERYWHERE!! And eating to sort out your hypo just means more calories, it's frustrating. For my hypos I now have cereal bars, they are around 16g for 100kcal or so. Saying that, I am at home a lot whereas I assume…

If the restaurant has nutritional information online, I'll plan beforehand. If not, I have what I want but I will choose and eat mindfully- if I want a pizza then I may eat half an have to rest for the next day. If it's a more crowded meal with different things on my plate then I use my carbs and cals app to help eyeball…

I'm going to bed in about an hour and I'm having some dark chocate right now, because I want to! Fits into my calories for today so why not :D

I like the UK since we use metric and imperial, beer comes in pints, pop comes in litres, we mainly weigh ourselves in stones, you check in your airport bags in KG, we normally do DIY measurements in cm and m but we travel in yards and miles! I can easily convert between them all since I talk to a lot of american and…

Bowel issues I might guess. Probably tmi but i find it hard to shift if I don't reach around 25g a day.

If you like soups you could try get your vege into you that way :) One of my favourites is celery and pea soup made with celery softened using chilli oil, frozen peas, a carrot and vegetable stock. So easy to make and the chilli oil gives it a nice kick. I also like to make my stews vege heavy with carrots, mushrooms and…

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for people with anxiety. My anxiety makes me chest feel constantly tight (my meds make me not able to feel the pain of that now) but I shallow breathe a lot of the time and can only get a normal breath in if I yawn so my chest can expand. Also if I feel that I'm not breathing…

In the UK that's what we call regular soda as opposed to diet soda. We're aware that it has no more fat in it than diet, it's just a term we use! It may even be regional but I'm not sure on that.

The problem I have with liquid sugar when having a hypo is that it's easy to drink more than you need and overtreat the hypo, whilst taking in a buttload of calories since it's not something you can easily measure out whilst you're hypo. Also having the munchies can be a common symptom, so even after you have that juice…

For diabetics, best is the one that you can get the easiest and in you the fastest :D It's highly situational. Generally though anything which is a liquid sugar is desirable, be it juice or full fat pop. I never have these in the house though, I just jump for anything sugary and lie there until I can move again. If I ever…

When I lived in a student house I would keep my sweet things in the kitchen, my social anxiety would stop me from venturin in there to grab things to eat at night since there would be people over watching TV in there. Since coming back to my Mum's, I have free range of the kitchen. I try not to have sweet things in the…

I love Green and Blacks and Lindt. Mainly because they have so many different flavours like salted caramel, mint, blueberry and coconut. I find that two squares is enough whereas I could easily eat a 200g bar of milk chocolate!

Wait so if fish is just plain white stuff, what the heck type of organism is this salmon that I'm eating?!

From the way she phrased it, how she loves to eat ham and share it with the dogs makes me believe it's not just a little. Also from how she must be underestimating her own portion sizes for her to be putting on weight when she's eating 1.2k a day could suggest her portion sizes for her dogs aren't mindful either. I'm an…
