When I get shin splints I just kneel down and sit back against my feet and lean back. It hurts like hell but it stretches out the shins and ankles and makes the splints go away. YMMV

I am surprised so many are defending fast food. If you feel there is nothing wrong with it once in a while, then by all means go for it. But I am coming at from a different angle. First I have an addictive personality (not saying this applies to original poster or anyone else) and I need to see what certain foods do to…

I've been doing crossfit since April. I am 44 and I have a good 50 pounds to lose. For the first 2.5 months I saw some changes in my body composition but I had not lost a lb. I decided to really clean up the diet. At the end of June I started doing a Whole30 (30 days of strict paleo - google whole30 for site and rules). I…

I think pretty much all the exercises can be scaled. Your coach should give you alternative during the class. I'd let him/her know beforehand about your knee too. I had been eating a Paleo/Primal diet for the most part for a while and kind of plateaued. I needed something to get to the next level, saw a groupon for a month…

I go 3x a week and I started at the end of April, so about 2 and a half months. I love it! Here are a few of my observations. -Starting out in poor shape and in my 40s there were a lot of exercises I couldn't do, mostly due to mobility issues. Crossfit requires strength stamina and mobility and if you are like me starting…

I am on Day 13. The first week or so was rough, but I have been feeling really good the past few days. It definitely requires a lot of planning. I do a couple of things which have helped. I spend a bunch of time on weekends cooking and then dividing the food up into meal sized containers. For example yesterday I made…

There's a recipe in the Primal Blueprint cookbook for enchiladas but instead of tortillas they make wraps using egg whites. If you don't have that cookbook there is a video here: http://www.thefitclubnetwork.com/2011/01/primal-blueprint-enchiladas-weight-los/ Dave

Lots of us here (spelling was not the caveman's strong suit): http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/267812-palelo-support-group?hl=palelo Lots of anti=paleo folks too so look out

Like a few others here I still record my meals here so I know my calorie count. I do it more so I know my carb fat and protein numbers. I am really never over on calories especially if I count my exercise calories. I follow the mantra eat when I am hungry and since I am eating a lot more fat and protein I'm not nearly as…

My wedding ring shrunk to the point of not fitting about 3 years after getting married (been married 13 years). Every week when I weigh in now I go and try it on to see if it fits. Not quite there yet, but I suspect I am about 10lbs away (body weight not finger weight). That will be a huge NSV for me. Dave

My understanding is that though it is OK to go over on protein, mostly you want to replace the carbs from grains with fat. It is a bit of learning curve to accept the higher fat. In the first week I kept catching myself going for the skim milk or low fat yogurt or leaner meats without thinking. But it is the fat that fills…

There are also a couple of support groups on here for people living the Paleo/Primal way. I am in this one, come say hello: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/244384-no-grain-no-pain?page=7#posts-3301036 Dave

I am down about 14 lbs since I started primal. SW 238 CW 224. My all time high was 261 about a year ago. I took off 30 lbs doing the cleansing/natural foods diets. But then I stalled big time in the 230s and bounced between 230 and 239 no matter what I tried I was stuck for about 5 months. Started at MFP couple months ago…

Good luck I am on day 32 of being Primal. It gets easier (at least Primal does, though it is a bit more lenient that strict paleo). I am seriously considering doing a Whole30 starting June1 to kick it up a notch. But after a month I feel better than I have in years. Welcome Dave

Well that is a tease. NFL fan here. Who did you play for? When? And good luck with the weight loss (unless you were a packer because then I have to hate you). Dave

I have a 4 year old. We have been trying avoid wheat and gluten. I saw on here a recipe for Mac and Cheese substituting the macaroni with yellow squash. I made it last night, cut the squash into macaroni sized pieces, sauteed in some butter to soften it up threw in some broccoli and american cheese and cream cheese and…

I started it yesterday! I am also doing the 200 sit ups. David

I have been on the fence with this, so OK I AM IN. Did the pretest thing a week ago (did 10). Going to do my reps right now. Dave

My bike is a flat bar road bike which is kind of like a hybrid between a hybrid and a road bike. I got it on ebay for $100. It is light and great on the pavement yet tough enough to handle mild off road stuff. I just put bigger tougher tires on it so I would get fewer flats. But I love it. Mine is a Marin Fairfax, and I…

I drink water and La croix. If I really miss soda (which I do occasionally) I will add a little lemon juice or lime juice to my la croix. I also drink some coffee Dave

Is this really what this has come to? "I've lost this much weight so my diet is better than yours" Jeez that is sad. Dave

Glad you liked it! I am a bit of a foodie. I love food. That had been the problem. And that is why I like the primal lifestyle. It is easy to stick to because everything I cook tastes so damn good. The fact that I am using things like bacon, butter and steak and still losing weigh astounds me. I started my weight loss…

Welcome. I too am pretty new to this. I am following the primal blueprint which does allow for some dairy. For me the 80 20 rule is basically in a 10 day period it won't kill me to cheat a couple of times - 8 days good 2 days not so good. But since I am new trying to jump start this and get thru grain cravings (who knew…

You are all weird.

I would like to know specifically which enzyme(s) one gets from grains that they don't get elsewhere. dave

I have been eating Primal for about 3 weeks now. Primal is a slightly less strict version of Paleo (you can have some dairy for example). I am loving it now. For the first 7-10 days it was pretty rough. It was like quitting smoking all over again: brain fog, cravings grouchy and tired. But then boom, it was like someone…

I get the shin splints too. Different shoes so far have not helped. I was told they are from calcium deposits. Massage helps a lot. And the stretch I do that helps the most is to get on my knees and sit so my butt pushes against the my heels and lean back. Dave
