6 miles IS long distance, there are no 2 ways about it….but a lot of people who train for events longer than 6 miles can easily run 6 miles without needing water. If you do need water, take some with you in a small hand held water bottle, or arrange to have some left during your route…or take some money with you and buy…

Yep..weight loss is largely helped by eating at a calorie deficit. But a mixture of Cardio and weights won't do you any harm :-)

fitbits etc measure activity... to get an accurate calorie burn, there is no replacement for a heart rate monitor.
-
it really depends on how 'active' i have been. if iv'e been totally sedentary, then +/- 100 calls. If not, 250 works for me..or I eat until I'm not hungry ( not the same as over-eating in my book..nothing worse than being HANGRY!)

Nice. I don't hate anybody.

I invested in a bike and with a decent diet, the weight just melted off. then i started walking, at least 6-10 miles a day. then running…and running…and running.
-
run more miles, run more miles, run more miles, run more miles and then run more miles. repeat until desired pace is sustainable.

" the wire". it will never ever be bettered…its current for me as im watching it the 8th time over. walking dead is fun, though.

in england we don't just get rain ( even though it rains every single day). our rain always comes with gale force winds. it's annoying as hell, but part of training as a long distance runner is to be come mentally tough, and gnarly weather can only make you stronger.

seriously…^^^^ that is such great advice^^^

current. you are a hardcore athlete

the 'chit'chat' forum is where the morons and imbeciles reside. i wouldn't go there looking for any sort of help or encouragement.

Iv'e been vegetarian my entire life ( 47 years old and counting) and never ever tasted neither fish nor meat. Don't be under any illusions about vegetarians being healthier, though…I hit 270 lbs on a vegetarian diet. Thank you mfp for saving me. veggie friends are always welcome.
-
you should be fine to eat at maintenance a couple days before your race
-
my mfp buddies are beyond badass. they have a category all to themselves.

I'm Dee…started running 18 months ago, have completed 1 marathon, 2nd one coming up soon at the end of April..2 marathons in 2 countries in less than one year. Running has now become as much a part of my life as work/sleep/using the internet/reading a book/socialising I run to validate to myself each day that I am a new…

fail,fail,fail.

"jogging" was just a term used by people in the 1980's to describe running. it's a term thats often used by the sort of people who believe a 5k is a 'marathon', and the same people who ask how long a marathon IS, and those who also believe that a 5k/10k/half marathon/full marathon have variable distances depending on the…

" you just ran 20 miles??? you are a f*****g lunatic".
-
if you have exercised 1,000 calories and eaten them back then in no way have you 'over eaten'.
-
Seriously? I couldn't care less what people think of me. I have a marathon coming up in 6 weeks and started a new job with a big company. The last thing I could care about right now is what people think of me.

walking is fantastic, fantastic, fantastic exercise and so under rated. although I train for long distance running, I started off as a walker and LOVE nothing more than walking…it's great that you too have decided to walk :-)
