40+ a day smoker, junk food...crisps, lots of fizzy drinks and late night snacking...on top of 'regular' meals. and no exercise...I was on my way to a heart attack and or diabetes

It can seem daunting, Mary..but these 'long runs' are the most important of all in really building endurance. As others have said, bring music...don't be afraid to take walk breaks and use a garmin etc to pace yourself...but the idea of these runs is really to keep you on your feet. I have a'long run' tomorrow and dreading…

so....no White Truffles, Beluga Caviar, shark fin-rhino horn powdered mousse for your arrogant taste, then???

It's the redskins...no one will feel like eating after the 1st qtr.

I encountered winter when training for my first marathon. I resisted the advice of friends to take my running indoors during the winter, snow and ice on the basis that my marathon isn't going to be run on a treadmill...so I got some spikes fitted onto my running shoes and beasted it outdoors regardless. Add to that some…

so many great things you have managed! congrats on the smoking cessation is huge for a start! Please don't give up with c25k..I attempted and failed it FIVE times before finally making it count and ran a full marathon less than a year later!!! My advice to you would be to take c25k OUTDOORS..but before you do that 1. Get…

Leicestershire here, open diary, UK friends are always welcome :-)

it sounds ( and is ) very stupid.
-
it's snowing and icy outside you simply put spikes on your shoes and think it's perfectly normal...no marathon was ran on a treadmill, right?
-
you should have your own TV show.

By all means go for it...looks like a recipe for injury to me, though. Is there a reason why you'd want to go from couch to 5k to Ultra distances in 14 weeks? Why not develop as a runner gradually increasing the distances, understanding how your body reacts to endurance training, and above all else, actually ENJOY running?…

OP needs to seriously consider having more friends who offer good advice like this ^^

Joined May 2011, dropped around 85 lbs, ran a marathon last year and training soon for a 50 mile ultra the journey has no end..it's become a lifestyle :-)

running a half marathon on sunday and treating it no differently to a normal, routine long run...how a year from not able to run has flown by :-)

I started running a year or so ago. I usually run 3-5 days a week. I think you need to add a little structure to your running. It might be a good idea if you haven't already to get some decent running shoes fitted out by a RUNNING specialist store ( not a ****s/sports authority etc)... and then perhaps work a c25k program?…

just curious why you think college basketball is ' less' watchable? I used to be a HUGE NBA fan but can't stomach the modern NBA any longer...but no denying it the NBA went international and marketed it's self very well indeed...the NFL too is sniffing around for a European franchise ( possibly London?)

they'll be gone and swept before they can turn up the piped crowd noise in seattle. GO NINERS!
